4

As reported on Monday night, WWE announced during this week’s RAW that actor Stephen Amell of “Arrow” fame will be appearing on next Monday night’s RAW, likely to confront his on-air nemesis, Stardust.

WWE issued the following press release late Monday evening to publicize the fact that Amell will be appearing on next week’s show.

STEPHEN AMELL TO GUEST STAR ON WWE® MONDAY NIGHT RAW®

STAMFORD, Conn., August 3, 2015 – Actor Stephen Amell, who plays the title role on the hit series Arrow, will guest star on WWE’s Monday Night Raw next Monday, August 10, at 8/7C on USA Network. After several visits to Monday Night Raw, Amell will be appearing as a guest star for the first time.

Based on characters from DC Comics, Arrow tells the story of billionaire Oliver Queen who, after being gone for five years and suffering unimaginable ordeals, returned home to Starling City with a mysterious agenda and a set of new skills that he uses in a war on crime as “The Arrow” in this hard-hitting action series.

Monday Night Raw is the longest-running, weekly episodic program in U.S. primetime TV history and is one of the most-watched, regularly scheduled programs on cable, airing live every Monday night on USA Network. Each week, it is rated one of the most socially active shows on cable television and continues to be a “must-stop” for celebrities to reach WWE’s TV audience and its more than half a billion social media followers.

Detailed Recap Of Paige On The “Stone Cold Podcast” On August 3rd

51

The following is a complete recap of Paige’s appearance on the “Stone Cold Podcast.” The show aired live on the WWE Network on Monday, August 3, 2015. The following report comes from Jason Powell of ProWrestling.net.

Steve Austin welcomed viewers and the volume of his mic shot way up whenever he raised his voice. Austin introduced Paige and asked what she thought of her match. She said it was “cool” yet said she’s her biggest critic. Austin said they both swear a lot and this should be an Unleashed show. Paige confessed she swears in the ring and has to apologize for it.

Austin noted that Paige is a ten-year veteran. A shot aired of a young Paige on the set’s video screen. Austin noted Pagie’s mother and father Ricky and Saraya Knight. A shot of Paige with her parents appeared on the screen. She noted that her brother wrestles and another brother is a referee. Paige said she was afraid of the violence because her mom was blinded six months into the business. She said she was one of the kids who tried to get inside the ring because she was so worked up.

Austin asked if Paige’s parents ever smartened her up. Paige said not when she was young, but eventually she told them she knows what it is. She said she got knocked out when she got in the ring, but she doesn’t remember what knocked her out. She guessed she didn’t tuck her chin while taking a bump. Paige said she wanted to be like Lita and Bull Nakano.

Paige spoke about being trained by her mom, and Robbie Brookside press slamming his mother.

Paige said she has scoliosis. She said she didn’t have any idea she had it until one of the trainers at NXT noticed it. She said she got an X-ray that showed she has a question mark-like spine. She said it could give her problems down the line.

Austin brought up the Youtube documentary on her family. She spoke about her family and said the idea was to show them leading up to her tryout and perhaps the film would have a happy ending if she got in.

Austin brought up Paige’s bartending and bouncing career. She laughed and talked about how her parents would go away and leave her in charge of the bar at age 15. She said she headlocked one guy, and pinned another guy up against a wall.

Paige said the best part of her family’s promotion is that American wrestlers would come over. She spoke about meeting Jake Roberts, The Bushwhackers, and Yokozuna.

Paige said she looked up to Bull Nakano and said she modified her finisher to use as her own. She also liked Lita, Austin, and Rikishi. She also mentioned Madusa/Alundra Blayze.

Austin noted that Paige was rejected by WWE after her first tryout. She said she couldn’t bush her hair or do her own makeup properly. She said she hated the way she dressed and was not confident. She said she was timid and passive. She said she busted the lip of her opponent open during the tryout match because she was so nervous. She said she was told maybe she could come back once she had more confidence.

Paige said she came back the next time and decided to be herself. She said Jamie Noble and Goldust ran the tryout. Following a network freeze on my end, Paige spoke about her early run in NXT. She recalled hitting Summer Rae in the cheek with a shoulder tackle.

Austin asked her about transitioning to Paige. She spoke about Dusty helping her by keeping her sane. She said the job is hard whether people believe it or not. Cody told her that Dusty liked to play with the broken toys, so Dusty spent a lot of time working with her. She said Dusty spoke to her about saving her money. She was also censored when she recalled Dusty telling her he wanted chicken dinner from one of her promos and she gave him chicken shit. She recalled Dusty taking her outside and talking with her on the steps of the Performance Center for 20 minutes and telling her that she has something special and can be a star someday.

Paige said she did promos, but she didn’t realize you could tell a story in a promo. She also laughed as she told stories about her father having her work through injuries when she was younger.

Austin brought up John Cena’s broken nose and how he kept doing. Paige said good for him. She said it’s awesome and he’s old school. She said she looks at it the same way. She recalled Daniel Bryan wanting to do the same and not being allowed to. She spoke about having a broken wrist and being knocked out and still continuing through matches when she was younger.

Paige spoke about her mother being a big influence after Austin praised her mother’s work. Paige said her mom would slow her down with a shot if she was working too fast. She said she would do the same in developmental and people would tell her you can’t do that.

Austin asked Paige why she asks people why they want her autograph. She said she thinks it’s more of a low self esteem thing. She said there are all of the gorgeous superstars and she’s a girl from a small town.

Paige recalled The Rock told her to stay humble and hungry. Austin told her that fans who ask for her autograph means she struck a chord with them and maybe they live vicariously through her. Austin suggested that Paige step back when she’s not on the road and realize what she’s doing and how powerful her presence is.

Paige said the message she wants to give people is to be themselves. She said people have told her she helped them get over their eating disorder and anxiety. She wanted to tell a story about Daniel Bryan meeting her family.

Austin brought up Triple H being an influence on her. She said someone stole her identity and she couldn’t pay for a surgery. She spoke about how great he was, and they looked at a photo of her winning the NXT Championship. She said she feels the Divas revolution started because of Triple H.

Paige said she believes Triple H and Stephanie McMahon started the Divas revolution in NXT. She recalled being told that she and Emma twenty minutes on the first NXT special and they were both pleasantly surprised. Austin asked if she opened the door for the revolution. Paige said she feels like “we opened the door” and then praised Sara Del Rey as a trainer. She also praised Fit Finlay and Dean Malenko.

Austin asked who she travels with. Paige said sometimes she travels by herself. She said she used to travel with Emma. She said they used to travel five or six to a car in England.

Austin recalled someone telling him to enjoy life. He asked if she is enjoying life. Paige said she has to have a life coming out of the shows. She said she will go out to eat and go to the bars. She looked like she was worried about being scolded for mentioning the bar.

Austin asked where she feels she is in the business. Paige said she’s still learning. Austin said it’s a benchmark in terms of putting it all together. She said she feels that way some days, but there are other days when she questions whether she gets it.

Austin asked about the transition from NXT to the main roster. Paige said it’s about being bigger. She said it’s entertainment and there are millions of people watching via the camera and thousands in the arena.

Austin recalled working in front of 15-20 people in a parking lot. She said she hears people talking about 1,800 people being a bad live event crowd, but to her it’s still a lot of people. Paige said she would go out there and put on a show even if there was only one person there.

The conversation turned to Tough Enough. Paige said apparently she’s the bad guy. Austin said he enjoys the hell out of the show and he’s not just saying it for a plug. Austin said it was met with some indifference initially this year because they made changes to the format. Paige said she’s received grief (death threats?) because of the way she interacts with the contestants. Austin said she’s being honest and helping them. “My parents did that to me,” she said. Paige said they did it to other people and recalled her mom working up a woman named Bethany who wouldn’t come out of her shell. Bethany slapped her mom, and her mom said that’s the intensity they wanted to see from her.

Paige spoke about Sara Lee cutting a promo on her in week three. Paige said she is happy she picked Sara Lee for the bottom three because she stood out when she fired back at her. She also spoke about the Patrick elimination. Paige said she put him in the bottom three and didn’t expect him to go. She said she got backlash for it, but she blamed the fans for not voting for him since they decide the fate of the contestants.

Paige said Mada looked great and could deliver a promo. Austin said Mada stood out and jumped off the television screen. Paige said she doesn’t have anything against Amanda, but she doesn’t think she should have been saved because Miz felt she was hot.

It was time for the story about Daniel Bryan meeting her family. She said she met him in roughly 2003. She said no one picked him up at the airport and he had to make his way to the locker room. She said Bryan saw her dad and his brother punching a guy and dangling a guy out the window. Bryan thought it was a British thing. Paige’s mom apologized. Bryan said it happens all the time in America, thinking she was referring to him working multiple matches on one show.

Paige said she drinks beer and whiskey and that she wants to make the WWE Hall of Fame some day.

They spoke about working in big stadiums. Austin said they thought they lost the crowd at Ford Field because of the sound in the building.

Paige they are heading back to Tough Enough after the interview. She closed by saying she doesn’t know what will happen now that The Miz is on the show. Austin closed out the podcast.

Videos: First WWE 2K16 Gameplay & Entrances Footage

WWE 2K16 is due for release in October and IGN have gotten their hands on some exclusive information in regards to what the next instalment in the franchise will bring us.

They spoke in particular about the roster which will feature over 120 unique playable characters and when they asked what “unique” meant, they liked the answer they were given.

IGN were told that what it means is that “in most cases” it’s a different person and not several versions of a particular character as we’ve seen in the past.

For example, if a performer has two different gimmicks, they would be counted as separate unique characters but same wrestlers from different eras wouldn’t count towards the 120 character list.

Once again, purely for an example (as presented by IGN) Dude Love, Cactus Jack and Mankind would be three unique characters whereas Triple H from the 90s and from today would be just one character.

Of course those characters and or eras haven’t yet been confirmed but IGN were speaking hypothetically with regards to how characters and their gimmicks will be portrayed.

IGN also note:

  • MyCareer is back, and this time it goes a lot further, all the way to you gaining admission to the WWE Hall of Fame.
  • Create a Diva, Create a Show, Create an Arena, and Create a Championship are back in!
  • WWE Universe: Wrestlers can now be booked to multiple shows
  • Online has been “overhauled.”
  • Three-man commentary team, with John “Bradshaw” Layfield joining King and Cole.
  • Ladder, handicap, and tornado tag match types added back in.
  • No loading screens between entrances, and you can assault opponents during their entrance!
  • Improved ref and manager AI.

Seth Rollins’ entrance wasn’t the only one to be released, current NXT Champion Finn Balor’s entrance was also released by IGN and can be seen below:

WWE 2K16 is due for release on PS4, XBox One, PS3 and XBox 360 in North America on October 27th, followed by its international release on October 30th.

Mick Foley Shares Another Roddy Piper Tribute, Cesaro Shares Photo Of Fans

17

– Taking to his Facebook page just hours after RAW, Mick Foley shared another tribute to the late “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Along with the video above, Mick posted the following:

MY MINUTE WITH RODDY

Of course you recognize that line about chewing bubblegum and kicking butt from “They Live”. It’s classic! But there’s a good chance you’ve never seen the scene Roddy and I shared in the documentary film “I Am Santa Claus”. It’s barely a minute long – but within that short time, you will see Roddy get big laughs and absolutely steal the show with a simple arch of an eyebrow and the inflection of his voice. I loved this scene when Roddy was with us. Now that he’s gone, I treasure it,
I hope that you who watch it will love or treasure it too.

– Following RAW, Cesaro posted a photo onto his Instagram page to acknowledge all the fans who held up “Cesaro Section” signs during the broadcast:

– Jack Swagger def. Bo Dallas in the second of two matches taped for Superstars. The crowd was super into boo’ing Bo Dallas. In the end, Swagger caught Dallas in his Patriot Lock submission finisher. WWE RAW Opener:

This week’s show kicks off with everyone on the stage and a graphic for Roddy Piper. A ten bell salute happens and then we get a very touching video package on his life and career.

From there, the regular RAW opener hits and out comes Seth Rollins. Rollins brags about breaking John Cena’s nose last week. He shows footage of several replays of the knee that broke his nose. He challenges him to a match, title vs. title, winner take all, at the four-hour SummerSlam event. He issues a WWE World Heavyweight Championship open challenge. We head to a break.

When we return, Rollins tells Jo Jo he has some conditions. The person challenging him must be under six feet tall and under 200 pounds. Jo Jo says, so you mean El Torito? Rollins says yes. Out comes El Torito, however before he gets to the ring, Neville’s music hits.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship
– Seth Rollins (c) vs. Neville

The announcers point out Neville is under six feet and under 200 pounds. The bell rings and here we go. Neville vs. Rollins for the WWE title.

The crowd immediately begins chanting for Neville as soon as the match begins. Neville ends up knocking Rollins out of the ring. Neville then does somewhat of a corkscrew moonsault to the floor, crashing onto Rollins. We head to a mid-match break.

When we return from the break, we see footage from the break that shows Rollins slamming Neville into the announce table to take over control of the offense. The action returns to the ring.

Once back in the ring, Rollins dominates the action for a couple of minutes and then Neville starts hitting several high-flying, high-impact moves for close near falls, including one very close one that the announcers sold like crazy.

Rollins starts fighting back but then out of nowhere, Neville gets Rollins down and goes to the top rope. Neville successfully hits the Red Arrow, immediately covers Rollins and the referee counts to three, however the referee noticed that Rollins had gotten his foot on the ropes at 2 1/2, so the match continues.

The fans start chanting “one more time! one more time!” at Neville, so Neville goes back to the top rope for a second Red Arrow. This time, Rollins rolls out of the way and Neville comes crashing down. Rollins hits Neville with a Pedigree and pins him. 1-2-3. Rollins wins and retains.

Winner and STILL WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Seth Rollins

Los Matadores & The Lucha Dragons vs. The New Day & The Ascension

We are told by the announcers that up next, Los Matadores and The Lucha Dragons will team up to take on The New Day and The Ascension in eight-man tag-team action. On that note, we head to another commercial break.

When we return from the break, all of the teams except The New Day are in the ring. We see The Prime Time Players on commentary again this week. Out comes The New Day. The bell sounds and here we go.

Big E. and Kofi Kingston are the two members representing The New Day in this one, with Xavier Woods at ringside shouting like a lunatic as usual. The match sees a lot of back-and-forth action, with a lot of high-flying spots.

El Torito grabs Xavier Woods on the apron. The distraction allows Kingston to blast Kalisto with Trouble In Paradise while he was on the top rope. Kalisto comes crashing to the mat, Kingston covers him. 1-2-3. The New Day and The Ascension win. After the match, we head to another break.
Winners: The New Day & The Ascension

Kane Reveals He’s Appearing In WWE Studios Movie With Dolph Ziggler

8

https://youtu.be/LqpBis4kxLo

Kane revealed on Monday that he will be co-starring with Dolph Ziggler in the upcoming WWE Studios thriller, “6:42.” WWE also released these new plot details:

“Ray Fitzpatrick (WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler) is a tough as nails narcotics cop working the beat in Los Angeles. After a drug bust goes wrong, Ray is forced to shoot his own partner, leading to his suspension from the police force. Before you know it, Ray is dragged right back into the thick of it when a mysterious package arrives at the station addressed to him.

The package leads Ray and his colleagues to an encrypted website where an unidentified kidnapper broadcasts a threat to Ray and the entire police force. The kidnapper, it turns out, is holding a young boy hostage and unless the police department can come up with a $2 million ransom, he’ll set off a time-bomb strapped to the child’s chest.

The department, led by Lt. Cronin (WWE Superstar Kane) comes up with the payoff and Ray is tasked as the bagman. When the handover goes down, Ray is forced to shoot and kill the kidnapper before he can set off the bomb and kill the child.

With 6 hours and 42 minutes left before the timed explosive detonates, Ray and Internal Affairs agent Julia Baker (Katharine Isabelle from “See No Evil 2″) race against time to find the now deceased kidnapper’s hidden lair and save the child before it’s too late.”

Bret Hart On Roddy Piper Helping His Career, Hulk Hogan’s Selfishness & More

24

Sports Illustrated’s “Extra Mustard” blog has a new featured article on the passing of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, which features comments from Piper’s longtime friend and work associate, fellow WWE Hall Of Famer Bret Hart.

Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On Roddy Piper helping his career: “I would be a footnote in this business without Roddy Piper. Roddy took a shine to me and took me under his wing. Maybe it was because I was a Canadian kid like he was, but he protected and looked out for me right from the start from the first time I met him.”

On rumors that Bret and Roddy were related: “Roddy’s last name was Toombs, and I told him my dad had family with the same name on his side of the family. Roddy was from around the Saskatoon area, and my dad was from Saskatoon, so we toyed with the idea that we might be blood-related.”

“As it turned out, when Roddy and my dad got to compare notes when he came to Calgary, we determined there were two different spellings—Toombs and Tombs. So we weren’t related, but from the very first day that we always wondered about it, Roddy always called me, ‘Cuz.’ We never called each other Roddy or Bret, we always called each other ‘Cuz’ right up until he died. Along with my brother Owen and Jim Neidhart, the closest guy to me in the business was Roddy.”

On Roddy and Randy Savage being leaders of the locker room: “Roddy and Macho Man were leaders in the dressing room. think of guys like Hogan, they never did anything for anyone. Hogan came to his private locker room with the star on the door and no one was allowed to knock on the door.”

WWE Partners With DoSomething.Org Again, Stephanie McMahon Comments

0

WWE issued the following press release on Monday to announce that they are partnering with DoSomething.org for the second straight year.

Below is the official press release, which features comments from Stephanie McMahon.

DOSOMETHING.ORG AND WWE TAKE ON BULLYING FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

New York, NY – August 3, 2015 – DoSomething.org, one of the largest global organizations for young people and social change, and global entertainment company WWE and its Be a STAR anti-bullying initiative, are teaming up for The Bully Text: Superstar Edition. The campaign, now in its second year, gets young people to take action around bullying by playing an SMS text message game.

From today until Monday, August 31, young people can virtually work their way through six levels of scenarios with guidance from WWE Superstars and Divas, including Roman Reigns®, Dean Ambrose®, Paige®, Natalya® and Alicia Fox®. Then, each player is given options to stand up and speak out against bullying. For example, “You sit behind Roman. Someone in the back of the bus keeps throwing paper airplanes at him. Do you A) Play it cool- it’s not your fight or B) play Superman?” Along the way, players will see how their anti-bullying skills compare to others, and ultimately whether they’ve earned the WWE World Heavyweight Championship title in bullying prevention. Go Fund Me Campaign Started To Help Jerry Lynn

16

Brian Fritz of Between The Ropes announced on Monday that a Go Fund Me campaign has been started to help longtime wrestling veteran Jerry Lynn.

Fritz issued the following:

I’m hoping that you can help spread the word on the GoFundMe campaign that has just started to help former TNA X-Division, ECW World and Ring of Honor champion Jerry Lynn.

https://www.gofundme.com/helpjerrylynn

Jerry is one of the best guys you will ever meet in and out of wrestling. Plus, he had a fantastic 25-year career putting on exciting wrestling matches that have thrilled so many of us.

All those years of taking bumps have taken a toll on him and he needs our help. We’re looking to raise money for his medical bills with a Go Fund Me campaign at GoFundMe.com/helpjerrylynn.

Jerry has been experiencing chronic neck pain as well as pain in his right arm and numbness. The first procedure will be neck surgery to remove bones spurs, replace three degenerative discs, and fuse his vertebrae. He will be having this procedure done on Thursday, August 6.

Jerry has also been suffering with severe pain in his back for the last three months due to a bulging disc. He will likely need surgery for this as well, and he hopes to have that done as soon as possible following his neck surgery.

Jerry does have medical insurance, but he needs help in paying the $5,000 deductible. Plus, he will be out of work recovering for 2-3 months, which will put a hardship on his family, including his wife and young daughter.

It is time for us as a wrestling community to pull together and give back to Jerry after everything he has done for us, his fans.

To help cover all of his expenses, we are hoping to raise $15,000. Jerry would like to give anything over that amount to charity to help others in need. The charity he has chosen is the Nashville Rescue Mission which seeks to help the hurting of Middle Tennessee by offering food, clothing, and shelter to the homeless and recovery programs to those enslaved in life degrading problems.

This is our moment to give back and help one of the truly great guys. Please go to www.GoFundMe.com/helpjerrylynn and donate — any amount will help.

Jim Ross On Who Could Sell More Tickets At AT&T Stadium: WWE Or UFC

9

In his latest blog at JRsBarBQ.com, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross talks about which show could sell more tickets at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas: WrestleMania 32 next April, or a UFC super-card rumored for December featuring top draws Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey in action.

While WWE has the WrestleMania brand to promote and a year of lead-up time, JR says that WWE could still drop the ball and fail to draw an audience of 100,000 if they fail to give fans what they want.

“Putting Rousey and Conor McGregor on the same card in December in Arlington, Texas is a no-brainer IMO if the goal is to sell close to 100,000 tickets for UFC,” Ross wrote.

“Adding a strong, Hispanic element to the show is needed too. Nonetheless I’d be willing to wager that WWE will still have more people in the stadium in April that UFC will in December no matter the card for UFC. The only way that WWE can fumble that one is to plan short-term and not listen to their fan base.”
