The Rock’s New Movie To Prevent Him From Working WM31?, Linda McMahon Political Note

28

– Due to the fact that The Rock’s new “Central Intelligence” film with Kevin Hart begins filming in the spring, depending on the exact start day, it could rule out him doing WrestleMania 31, which takes place on March 29th.

– Bloomberg magazine ran a feature on Linda McMahon, naming her one of the biggest low-profile political donors, noting that she has given $3 million to candidates thus far in 2014. The majority of the donations have gone to the Republican Governors Association.

  • Backstage Update On Hulk Hogan & Sting Possibly Wrestling At WrestleMania 31

    66

Regarding Hulk Hogan working a match at WrestleMania 31, it will largely depend on whether or not he can pass the strict WWE physical examination. The same applies for anyone over the age of about 45 that is under consideration for being brought back to work WrestleMania, or any other shows, including Sting.

Hogan has been pushing for another match not just in media interviews, but behind the scenes as well.  He’s made no secret that he wants one last match against John Cena. Most are skeptical that he’ll get medically cleared, but he’s apparently gearing up for a match and is trying to make it happen.

John Cena Talks About A Possible Match Against Hulk Hogan

Since the health scare with Jerry Lawler a little while back, WWE has instituted strict physicals for older talents before they’ll allow them to do anything physical, which is why Hogan hasn’t even been throwing punches or anything along those lines on WWE television.

Details On WWE TV Viewers: Average Age, Male/Female Breakdown, More

    29

    – The average viewer is 41.4 years old, meaning viewership is getting older, not younger.

    – The audience is 63 percent male, however Total Divas skews that number, as it would be closer to 68 percent for RAW and SmackDown.

    – The viewership is 19 percent under the age of 17, 22 percent between 18 and 34, 22 percent between 35 and 49 and 37 percent over the age of 50.

  • Backstage News On Ryback’s Push, Survivor Series Matches

    26

As you might have picked up on, the top priority for WWE television this past week was to elevate Ryback back to the top-tier status he enjoyed prior to his lost to CM Punk at Hell in a Cell 2013.

Speaking of Ryback, he’s official for “Team Cena” at the upcoming WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view on November 23rd, as he joins team captain John Cena and team members Dolph Ziggler, Big Show and Sheamus.

On the other end of the match, which is a traditional ten-man elimination style match with the big Authority stipulation, is Seth Rollins, Kane, Mark Henry, Rusev and Luke Harper.

Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt and Nikki Bella vs. AJ Lee for the WWE Divas Championship are the only other two matches official for the show thus far.

As noted, Adam Rose vs. The Bunny in a Kickoff Show match and a WWE Tag-Team Championship four-way with Goldust & Stardust vs. The Usos vs. Los Matadores vs. The Miz and Damien Mizdow is also expected.

Bully Ray Blasts TNA On Twitter

    26

Earlier today, we ran a report that TNA talent is “freaking out” over the lack of communication from management regarding the direction of the company and the ongoing negotiations to land a new TV deal for Impact Wrestling in 2015.

On Wednesday afternoon, TNA star Bully Ray took a not-so-subtle shot at “generals” who do not properly communicate with their “soldiers” –

Hernandez Says He Signed With Lucha Underground, Talks Racism In TNA & More

    11

The following are highlights of a new v2 Wrestling Podcast interview with Hernandez:

On Chavo Guerrero using Eddie Guerrero’s mannerisms to get himself over: “TNA wanted him to do that. You know damn well when he was in WWE he wasn’t doing that crap. Why else would he do it? The guy’s been wrestling twenty years, he’s not retarded. He’s an excellent wrestler. Why would you want to be a novelty act? They didn’t even give us a team name because they wanted to sell Guerrero t-shirts.”

On his departure from TNA: “The only way I know that I’m not on the show no more is I don’t get a cheque no more. The last time I got a call from TNA was the end of November 2013; my contract ended May 12th (2014), which is awkward because I thought it was the 14th of May. I wake up on the 12th, and it was all over social media, Impact wrestling unfollowed me on Twitter… I text Mrs Carter the day after my contract expired saying “thanks for the eight years”; I’m still waiting for a response. It is the most bush league thing I’ve ever heard of.”

On the main problem with TNA: “As long as the Carters have billions of dollars, that company will never go away. I just think the infrastructure just needs, you know, how you snake a toilet? They have Jeff Hardy, you had Sting, Kurt Angle, the best up and coming talent (like) Austin Aries, Roode, Styles, all these guys that could do anything, and you let every former WWE employee that served coffee to Vince McMahon try to be the boss time after time after time.”

On LAX: “The reason why you saw LAX being so good and so strong on TV was because Konnan literally had to threaten to quit and take his bag and roll into the parking lot every time they came up with some corny ass idea for LAX.”

On whether he would return to TNA: “Of course not. You wrestle somewhere eight years, you do every stupid semi-racist vignette. I know how a Mexican looks, acts and talks. I don’t need a fifty year old white man telling me I’m not being Mexican enough. At the beginning of Mexican America I was doing all the talking, but because I wasn’t saying essa and orale I magically became the non-speaker. I told them I wouldn’t talk like that because I live in Houston and I’m not gonna get my ass kicked because I’m making fun of my own people.”

Hernandez also revealed that he has signed on to wrestle for Lucha Underground.

  • Tim Wiese Appearing At Saturday’s WWE Live Event From Frankfurt, Germany

    19

Retired Germany soccer star turned bodybuilder Tim Wiese is set to make his first appearance for WWE this Saturday in Frankfurt, Germany. According to the UK’s Daily Mail, Wiese will be introduced to the live crowd prior to the show’s main event.

Wiese retired from soccer back in January and quickly packed on massive amounts of muscle while  after barely playing in the past few seasons for Hoffenheim, and revealed to the Daily Mail in September that he had been approached by the WWE.

    Wiese said earlier this year:

“I have an official enquiry from the WWE. It’s about working for them as a wrestler. I will listen. I don’t s–t my pants. Why should I immediately say no? Wrestling is very popular, especially in the [United] States. I will go through the enquiry with my agent next week.””

Edge Interview: Why He Doesn’t Watch WWE Network, Christian Retiring & More

    18

WWE Hall of Famer Edge recently spoke to AlternativeNation.net about a number of topics, including the Attitude Era, a John Cena heel turn, the WWE Network not working for him and much more. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The WWE Network and Sami Zayn: “They finally gave me the WWE Network. Once they asked me to do a show on it, they said, ‘Do you want it by the way?’ I said, ‘Yeah sure, why not?’ But for whatever reason, it doesn’t seem to want to work up here in Canada. Every time I try to watch something it just freezes, so I haven’t really watched a whole lot of stuff. Before it was on the Network, it was on Sports Central up here, and if I was home from set, I would try to watch it Thursday nights. Then it got taken off Sports Central, I got the Network, and the Network didn’t work, so it’s kind of been out of my hands, I haven’t been able to watch it. But I know Sami Zayn, I’ve known him for a couple of years now, but I’ve always enjoyed what he’s done, when he was El Generico too.”

Christian Possibly Retiring: “Well he’s my best friend, so I know what’s going on with him more than anybody else. But he’s at that kind of point where you sit back and look and go, okay I’m definitely closer to the end of my career than the beginning. After awhile your body just starts telling you, this is a difficult job to do. When you’re in your 20’s and you think you’re indestructible, you can bounce back, but it gets harder when you start climbing into your 40’s.”

The Attitude Era: “I do think what’s been good, people are always talking about the Attitude Era, and all of this and all of that, but if you watch back, sometimes the matches weren’t that great because we had 2 minutes. It’s not possible to have a good wrestling match in 2 minutes, you can’t tell a story, you can tell a haiku. Since the PG era, I know when I was in matches, I had half an hour sometimes, 20 minutes, there I can tell a story. To me that’s the meat and potatoes of the whole thing, it all boils down to the wrestling at the end of the day. The Attitude Era was a lot about the hijinks backstage, and the matches kind of got forgotten about. It’s looked at with rose colored glasses because the ratings were good, and it was working for obvious reasons, but to me those obvious reasons were characters like Stone Cold, who would then get in and have a long match at a PPV. Characters like The Rock who would be entertaining, but still at the end of the day, they could go. I think now, you need a little bit of both.

Why He Doesn’t Watch The WWE Network: “I haven’t watched a whole lot. They finally gave me the WWE Network. Then it got taken off Sports Central, I got the Network, and the Network didn’t work, so it’s kind of been out of my hands, I haven’t been able to watch it.”

WWE Survivor Series 2014: Predicting the Undercard

    13

Survivor Series is less than two weeks away, and while three matches on the card are essentially set, much of the program is still unannounced. So, will the WWE work to build a pay-per-view that is solid from top to bottom, or are they simply throwing in the towel because this is a “free” event? Here is the card is expect to see on November 23rd in St. Louis.

    Adam Rose vs. The Bunny

    bunny

After attacking the Bunny last week on Raw, it appears these two legends of the squared circle will square off sooner rather than later. This pairing has kickoff show written all over it, as the company tries to get the crowd going with a “humorous” contest.

Gold & Stardust (Tag Team Champions) vs. The Miz & Damien Mizdow vs. Los Matadores vs. The Usos

    damien-sandow-and-the-miz-ses-1

Los Matadores have picked up a few victories over Gold & Stardust over the past few weeks, and the Miz and his stunt double have also feuded with the champs. Throw in the Usos to make an even number of teams, and you’ve got yourself an elimination tag team match for the straps.

  • If There Was Ever An Awful Time For A 10-Person PPV Main Event …

    95

If there was ever an awful time for a ten-person pay-per-view main event … this is it.

Why WWE is choosing to run with a ten-person elimination match for the upcoming Survivor Series show is completely beyond me. At this point in time, the depth among WWE’s roster is at one of the lowest that I can ever recall.

With top stars such as Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns on the shelf, and guys like CM Punk leaving at the peak of their popularity and Brock Lesnar working infrequently, WWE is left with very little at the top of the card. The only positive is that it forces them to move guys up the ladder at a faster rate than they normally might do.

With that being said, and I’m well aware that it’s a tradition to have multi-person elimination matches at Survivor Series, but I just can’t fathom why WWE is running with that concept this year, considering the state of their roster.

There’s been plenty of times in the past where they abandoned the elimination match concept at Survivor Series, so it’s not like something they have to make work because they do it every single year.

Regardless, that’s the direction we’re headed this year.

Having said that, one has to wonder how Survivor Series will come off later this month. WWE has put on some pretty solid pay-per-view shows in recent months, but I’ve got my reservations as to how well this show will come off in two weeks.

With pretty much all of the top guys either injured or involved in the main event, what is the rest of the show going to look like? Outside of Bray Wyatt vs. Dean Ambrose, thus far there’s virtually nothing on the Survivor Series undercard that I’m looking forward to.

Sure, Adam Rose vs. The Bunny will no doubt be an instant ring classic, but I digress.

All kidding aside, what’s left for the Survivor Series undercard? How many people that matter that aren’t tied up in the main event are left? The answer — not many.

It will be interesting to watch as the card continues to take shape in the final week of television next week leading up to the event.

By the way, if the stipulation in the Survivor Series main event has The Authority losing power if “Team Authority” loses the ten-man elimination main event, why isn’t Triple H trading his suit in for a pair of tights?

    Beats me.

You would think with so much on the line, “The Game” would take matters into his own hands, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Unless I’m missing something, however, I guess it’s still possible, as last I checked there is one spot yet to be filled on the heel team. One would assume Triple H will fill that spot, although I haven’t seen any hints aimed in that direction.

While the roster is badly in need of some more depth right now, it is refreshing to know that the talent pool in developmental is as deep — if not deeper — than the current main roster in terms of promising young talent.

I can’t wait for guys like KENTA (Hideo Itami), Kevin Steen (Kevin Owens), Prince Devitt (Finn Balor), Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville, Tyler Breeze and The Ascension to get their chance to make a splash on the main roster.

Look at some of the recent call-ups from NXT and how they are performing on the main roster. Guys like Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt and others are among WWE’s absolute top-tier performers these days. If WWE brings in guys like the names I just mentioned the way those guys were, as opposed to say, the way Adam Rose and Bo Dallas were brought up, the WWE main roster could be quite the group this time next year.

If and when that day comes, WWE can put on as many ten-man elimination matches as they’d like. For now, however, it just boggles my mind that they are choosing to do so with the roster in the state that it’s in.

What do you guys think? Leave your feedback in the “Comments” section below. You can also hit me up on Facebook at Facebook.com/MattBooneWZR and/or on Twitter @MBoone420.

The following are complete spoiler results of the WWE SmackDown taping from Liverpool, England.

    – Chris Jericho opens up the WWE SmackDown taping for this week. He comes out to a huge pop from the Liverpool audience. It’s time for the “Highlight Reel” segment. Jericho’s guests, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, make their way out to the ring. The fans break out in a “Where’s Our Network?!” chant, much like at Monday’s RAW, which was also taped in Liverpool, England. Not a lot of details about what was said, just that this was apparently a really good segment.

    – Vince McMahon came out of nowhere and cut a promo at the top of the stage. He came out after some more “Where’s Our Network?!” chants broke out. He insulted the fans in attendance, saying that Liverpool sounds like a “skin disease.” This was apparently a dark segment that won’t air as part of the broadcast this Friday night. For a photo of Vince at the SmackDown taping in Liverpool, click here.

    – Bray Wyatt def. Sin Cara in what was basically a brief squash match. Wyatt dominated from bell-to-bell, picking up the win with his “Sister Abigail” finisher for the 1-2-3. After the match, Wyatt cut a promo, which prompted Dean Ambrose to come out. Wyatt fled the scene before Ambrose could get to him. The segment ended with Wyatt at the top of the stage laughing at Ambrose.

    – Goldust and Stardust def. Adam Rose and The Bunny in tag-team action. This was said to be a decent match, but mostly a comedy bout. They teased more issues between Rose and The Bunny.

    – Stardust def. Adam Rose in the opening match of the taping. They teased more tension among Rose and his “Rosebuds.”

    – Alicia Fox def. Cameron in Divas action. This was said to be your basic Divas match, which according to our correspondent in attendance, the crowd was not into at all.

    – Tyson Kidd def. Sami Zayn in a battle of NXT stars. Natalya was at ringside for this one and ended up playing a big factor in the end of the match. The finish saw Kidd pick up the win after Nattie provided a distraction.

    – Dean Ambrose def. Justin Gabriel in singles competition. This was said to be one of the better matches of the taping, as you would expect with these two. This was also the main event of the taping, so we’re switching gears and heading into the SmackDown taping. Check the main page for live spoiler results coverage of that show.
