  • Bad News Barrett On How Nexus Was Booked, Working With Cena, Favorite Opponents

    13

The following are highlights of a new Ten Sports interview with Bad News Barrett:

On working with John Cena after debuting on the main roster: “That was a pretty intense period in my life, to go from being pretty much an unknown wrestler, which I had been for 6 years at that point since I’ve started wrestling to suddenly get the opportunity to go out there and be a main event level character, and be the guy that’s opening up every RAW on the microphone and closing every RAW, wrestling all the top stars and beating up John Cena, which is a huge jump for me to go from that unknown around the world; I wasn’t recognized to immediately being one of the most important guys on the show. So it was a pretty intense period in my life, but I also loved every second of it. It was what essentially I was aiming to do, what I had sacrificed for, for over 6 – 7 years in my career to get to that point. So, to get that payoff, it felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders; so I didn’t really feel the pressure much. I was just enjoying the reactions we were getting and I knew it was working. Everything we did was working perfectly, so that felt good.”

On if he thinks Nexus could have been booked better towards the end: “Yeah, 100%. I think there was definitely more life left in Nexus at the time. If I had been in charge, I wouldn’t have ended it like it ended. But then again, we got great opportunities for young superstars to come into the WWE, make a huge impact and then 4 or 5 years down the line, most of us are still around, and most of us are still making a very good living in the WWE, and are involved in great angles. So I don’t really look at it in a negative way; I think we were very fortunate to get that opportunity, and I’m also very grateful for the fact that Nexus came along when it did. I wish it could’ve gone a bit longer, but I think there’s always that appetite left for people where they want to see some more of Nexus. They know it didn’t end the way it should’ve ended, and I think there’s always a potential in the future where we could bring it back. So we’ll have to see how that goes.”

On his favorite opponents: “My favorite opponent to work with.. I’d say there are two to choose between, and it’s because I’ve probably wrestled them more than anybody else, and that would be Kofi Kingston and Sheamus. They’re two completely different wrestlers. Kofi is obviously a high – flying, technical kind of guy, and Sheamus is very smash mouth and last time there were a lot of bruises and black eyes and things like that. So two completely different kind of wrestlers; I always seem to have good chemistry with them, and I don’t think I’ve had a bad match with either of those two, despite the fact that we’d wrestled hundreds of times. So I love wrestling those two, and then just before I got injured, I had a couple of matches with Dolph Ziggler. He’s a guy I have a lot of respect for, and I’ve known Dolph for 6 or 7 years and up until probably 3 months ago, we’ve never had a match before. So to get in with him and we clicked instantly; he’s another one that I’m hoping that when I get back, I get to do stuff with him because he’s currently got my Intercontinental championship I got stripped off. So fingers crossed, when I get back I can go straight for him, and try and win that back, and see what we can do together.”

  • Trish Stratus Talks About Divas Getting Ribbed, Current State Of WWE & More

    3

The following are highlights of a new Turnbuckle Weekly interview with WWE Hall Of Famer Trish Stratus:

On ribs back in the day: “I wish I had a juicy answer. I really don’t. So boring! I’m going have to make something up. Me and (Lita) discussed this other day. I was like, ‘I really have nothing.’ There was just that phase with us girls, as boring as it may sound and not Total Divas episode worthy, we were all just pretty cool all of us. We were really great friends… We were creating something special with the women’s division… There wasn’t much ribbing going on and I’m glad because it was nice. It was a really nice environment.”

On being in the movie “Gridlocked” with Danny Glover: “Such a gentleman and so sweet. He’s a little bit older now… he reminded me of the wrestlers where you go backstage and wrestlers are getting up there and they’re just sort of keeping to themselves and a bit quiet and they don’t look as alive as you remember them looking. And the minute they get in the ring, or in Danny Glover’s case, the minute they call action this man came alive and oozed charisma… He was amazing. He was really great about encouraging everyone and “great job kids!” Because a lot of the (actors) on the set were younger than him. He was like, “great job kids and thank you so much everybody.” He’s such a great guy.”

On the current state of the WWE Divas: “Right now you see the girls with the girls, which is fine, but you can only do so much with the same characters. Unfortunately, they don’t have super developed characters at the moment… The potential is there because there’s some great workers. That’s what we had at the moment things shifted for us. We had the right things.”

  • Jim Ross Blog: Lesnar/HIAC Rumors, Sting Update, MMA Announcing Debut

    10

The following are highlights of a new blog by WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On his upcoming MMA broadcasting debut: “In my spare, time I am doing research on my first MMA play by play assignment which will be next Friday October 3 from Tulsa and on PPV produced by Battle Ground MMA where I will partner with Chael Sonnen on the broadcast that features the return of the one night, 8 Man Single Elimination Tournament with the winner earning 50K. This event is being carried by many major cable systems and I hope that you will give us a shot on what will be an unpredictable, exciting. night. This is going to be a down and dirty night of fights in the cage That begins at 10 eastern/9 Central time.

I have many, great friends in the MMA world helping me prepare for this long awaiting, eagerly anticipated opportunity.”

On a new trend in main event matches in wrestling: “What started the trend that it takes a main event level talent using their finish MULTIPLE times on another top hand to win a match? Why is that lame trend on going? If one has to use their vaunted finish multiple times to beat another talent then is is really one’s finish?

If the in ring psychology was more refined and made more common sense, we wouldn’t be seeing someone have to take another’s go to finish multiple times to lose. For those who think that matter helps a match then they are out of touch with the genre. It’s all about protecting the loser obviously instead of it being all about getting the winner truly over.”

On Sting to WWE debates: “Is there really a debate that Sting should or should not compete at WM31? Really? Seems like a no brainer to me. The second part of our Sting conversation on the Ross Report had approximately 1.5M downloads and that number is still growing. That specific market research says there is an interest in WWE fans wanting to see the Stinger have his WrestleMania Moment. I see the WM31 card being an ensemble type show and any one who thinks that Sting can’t contribute to that ensemble is out of touch.”

On Brock Lesnar/HIAC rumors: “Some are saying that no Brock Lesnar at this year’s HIAC in Dallas? That’s the rumor and a head scratcher.”

  • Strong Signs TNA Isn’t Sure Of New Deal, Uncertainty Heading Into 2015

    19

Apparently many people within TNA are confident that the company will continue to operate after their Spike TV deal expires heading into 2015. The main issue right now is what kind of company they will be. Some are under the impression that they will become a bare-bones skeleton company, while others feel they will be a top-level indie style company such as Ring Of Honor. There are others, however, who feel TNA will continue running as they have been, budget-wise.

There is some talk that claims more permanent budget cuts will be brought on by TNA’s new deal, some that could really change TNA as we know it.

The fact that top-level talents such as Bully Ray and Samoa Joe were not offered any kind of significant deals is considered a strong sign that TNA is not willing to bank on the idea that next year with a new network is a guarantee.

  • Taryn Terrell Talks Differences In Being A Diva And A Knockout, BFG In Japan & More

    3

Andrew Lee sent along the following …

The following are highlights of a new Sports Vibe UK interview with TNA Knockout Taryn Terrell:

On how she got started in the business: “In 2007, my friend who is a huge wrestling fan took me to a show. I was at a point in my life where I was done with university and at a dead end. I remember watching a match between Candice Michelle and Beth Phoenix. I figured that’s what I wanted to do. So I started researching and found out about the Diva Search. Although I didn’t win, I bothered the hell out of WWE for a job. Now it’s become my passion and my world.”

On who she looked up to early in her career: “At the time, Beth Phoenix was an incredible worker and there’s women like Trish Stratus who I aspired to be like. When I first started out, they were who I looked up to. There was also Natalya who is such an incredible wrestler and worked so hard with the girls. She taught me so much of what I know today. She’s somebody who I have so much respect for.”

On the differences between being a WWE Diva and a TNA Knockout: “I think at the end of the day, it’s a different company with a different schedule but we’re all after the same goal to become incredible female athletes and entertainers. Whether you’re here or there, we all want to get in the ring to do our best. There is a difference. It’s a total different company. There are girls who have obviously come over. I worked with Gail Kim in WWE and now we’re both in TNA.”

On TNA Bound For Glory in Japan: “Being able to take something like Bound For Glory to Japan is such a cool opportunity. Sometimes, we forget there aren’t just people in the United States watching us but also in Japan. We’re connecting with all those people, so to go over there to meet them and perform in person is a wonderful opportunity for them and for us.”

Edge Talks Fatherhood, If He Misses WWE, Christian, Haven & More

    10

The following are highlights of a new “The Rack” interview with WWE Hall Of Famer Adam “Edge” Copeland.

Has his time in WWE helped him with is acting: “I mean, it definitely does; you’re in front of a camera, no matter what. So, that is always the same, and there’s nothing that gets you used to being in front of a camera except being in front of a camera, so I was in front of a camera my entire adult life. SO, that part of it really helped me coming in; I wasn’t coming in with zero experience or acting in front of a camera for the first time, because there’s always an element of acting with the WWE. So, that definitely lent itself. The one thing I had to learn to do was pull back on my over-the-top mannerisms that you had to do in order to translate for someone that is an entire town’s population away from your performance, in the back of a stadium. If you’re performing for 80,000 people, you have to make it big, or they aren’t going to see it. So, that was a big difference I had to get used to, was pulling back and making things much more subtle.

But, in some respect, it’s great to have a live microphone and no net, because once you do it, it’s out there and you’ve made your choices and your choices are happening as you’re seeing them and that’s amazing, but I have to admit it’s kind of nice to realize you can do different things on a different take and you have a script and you can actually think about some of these things after you do it once and go ‘Ah, I think I want to try this’ or talk to the director and say ‘What direction did you see it?’ and it can be much more of a community process as opposed to just going out there and you’re standing in the middle of the ring. By yourself, with a live microphone and you have 10 minutes to fill.”

What it’s like being a new father: “You know, it’s amazing. It’s all of the clichés that people talk about and movies show, it’s all of those things; you have much less sleep and you’ll have poop on your hands and all of that stuff. But, it’s awesome. What has really been a change this year was having a baby and then maintaining these hours; that’s been a challenge, but it’s been good. I mean, if I look a bit more tired this season on Haven, that’s the reason.”

What can we expect from Dwight on the upcoming Season 5 of Haven: “A lot happens. It’s pretty crazy how the landscape of the town completely changes from the first episode to the episode that kind of breaks up Season 5 or Seasons 5A, I don’t know how they’re going to air it; but the entire town, the landscape of it changes from the first episode to the 13th and we’re currently about to start filming the 17th episode. So, it’s really crazy when I start to think back, especially when Dwight first came onto the show, how much has changed, not only to the town but to him as a character. It’s been a fun ride.”

How has Dwight evolved from his first appearance to Season 5 on Haven: “Well, initially, I don’t think anyone had the idea that the character would really be around that long. It was just, kind of, one of those cross-over, WWE Smackdown airs right before Haven; I was just hired because I fit all of those categories and then I think both parties. Haven and myself, realized ‘Wow, we might have a little something here; who knows?’ They were amazing letting me grow as an actor and into this character and help me get comfortable with this whole process, because I hadn’t really done much acting before this. So, they were very kind to me.

This year, I had a lot more heavy lifting placed on me and I was ready for itl I feel like I was ready for it. If that had happened the first season, I would not have been. So, it was very nice of them and kind of them to let me mature in this aspect of entertainment, compared to what I was used been doing.”

What was it like going from special guest to a regular on the show: “Every time, I kind of get surprised; it became from cleaner to Chief of Police but it’s been a nice growth. It didn’t happen overnight and let me get comfortable with the process and even comfortable with the crew, cast and even getting that rapport, that’s really important and helps your performance. So, I think they were really kind in just letting me figure my way and cutting my teeth a little bit and hopefully not screw it up too bad. And then, once I started to feel more confident and comfortable, they gave me more responsibility and that was nice.”

Does he miss performing in front of a live crowd: “That was the fun part of it, was getting in front of the audience but every other aspect, no. I don’t miss the travel, I don’t miss the amount of pain I was in, I don’t miss being on the road 250 days-a-year, I don’t miss planes everyday, I don’t miss rental cars every night, a different hotel every night at 3 am after eating at Dennys at 1 am. I don’t miss any of that.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a great gig and like I said, the amazing aspect was the performance part, but that was half an hour of a 24-hour day because that job starts as soon as you wake up in the morning and doesn’t stop until you go to bed. And then, you’re probably only getting 4 hours sleep, so it’s an interesting way to make a living.”

What is his favorite Edge and Christian moment: “Oh man, we have so many; to the point of we’ll forget some times and someone will mention something and its like ‘Wow, oh yeah’. There was luck involved but a lot of hard work involved too; finding ourselves in moments where we always pictured ourselves but never fully know if it’s going to happen, But I think for the most memorable, it’s the first time we won the Tag Team Titles and sitting on top of the table, across two ladders at WrestleMania, doing what we said we were going to do when we were wrestling in his parent’s side yard jumping off a washing machine onto a mattress, you know? So, I think that would be the biggest one, but then we also found ourselves like I’m teaming with Hulk Hogan and he’s teaming with Lance Storm; Hulk Hogan is doing the ‘Hulk up’ on him and I just tagged Hulk Hogan into the ‘Hulk up’ and was like ‘How did we get here?!’.

It’s real crazy when we’ve sat down and people have said, ‘What’s the story with you guys?’ We’re like, well, here it is: we met in the sixth grade because of a ninja star, we went to high school together, we lived together in college, started wrestling together, went wherever we could and wrestled in barns and ate cans of tuna we opened with a key, 40-hour bus rides, made it to the WWE and won the Tag Team Titles more than anyone else in history and both became World Champions, AND fathers within six weeks of each other to little girls. I mean, it’s crazy!”

How he and Christian found out about the other’s pregnancies: “I was doing some promotional stuff for SyFy actually, and I was in New York for an up-front presentation and I was in my hotel room and we (him and Beth) had found out we were pregnant and I was like ‘Ok, I HAVE to tell someone’, it’s technically too early to tell someone but I need to be able to, if anything does goes wrong, I have someone to talk to about that and I thought Jay (Christian) is going to be the guy I’m going to talk to. So I called him and I was standing in the bathtub of my hotel room because it had an amazing view, but only from the bathtub. So, I standing there staring at the Empire State building, going ‘Wow, that’s beautiful’ and he picks up the phone, and I said ‘So, guess what’ and he goes ‘what?’. I said we’re pregnant, and then there’s just silence and I was like ‘Ohhh. Gosh, alright.’ And then he goes, ‘Well, guess what.’ ‘Oh come on!’ and sure enough they were pregnant too. And both had little girls, and it was nuts.”

  • Backstage Reason TNA Is Letting Wrestle-1 Do The Work For Bound For Glory

    5

The reason TNA is letting Wrestle-1 handle a lot of the work for this year’s Bound For Glory show is said to be part of a money-saving deal that Jeff Jarrett put together when he was still with the company.

TNA will only have to cover the travel costs for their talent, as well as their pay for the event. Wrestle-1 will be handling the production and will air a television show in Japan with the idea that they are presenting the biggest TNA event of the year.

Wrestle-1 will then transmit the Bound For Glory tape to TNA headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, where Mike Tenay and Taz will do the voice-over work for the U.S. broadcast. The pay-per-view itself will air that night in its’ normal 8pm EST. time slot.
