  • Steve Austin Talks About Wrestlers Dealing With Fans Inside & Outside The Ring

    13

The following are highlights of WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin talking about wrestlers facing physical issues with fans inside and outside of the ring during his appearance on the Bro Bible podcast.

On how wrestlers would handle fans jumping into the ring during his days in the business:

“It’s a whole different ballgame these days. In the old days, if a fan stepped into the squared circle, he was considered fair game. Normally, the heel took care of the business at hand, because the babyface was the guy the crowd was supposed to be cheering for but both guys in the ring would have to access the risk. Back in the old days, when wrestlers had genuine heat with fans, you never knew what guys were walking into the ring with.”

On wrestlers having to deal with fights outside of the ring:

“As a Hollywood Blonde, Brian Pillman and I had some pretty good heat, but it was well past the time in our industry where you had to worry about a fan trying something on the way back to the dressing room. I’ve heard stories of guys having to fight their way back to the locker room and getting stuck with knives or people try to cut them back when wrestling was quote, unquote real.

I’ve never personally had any altercations with fans in an arena or out in public. The worst I’d get was maybe some drunk guy at a bar wanted to arm wrestle but I’d usually just defuse the situation with a “hey man let me buy you a beer” and things would blow over.

Thankfully, but almost regretfully, none of those old “drunk guy at a bar” ever transcended into an altercation with me just because a wrestler always wants one old war story to tell.”

Dean Ambrose On How He Prepares For A Match, His Battle With The Authority

    14

The following are highlights of a new interview with Dean Ambrose:

On Kane and his battle with The Authority: “Kane is a loyal soldier for Triple H and I’ve been a bit of a thorn in The Authority’s side. He’s a bonafide monster. They’d like to stomp me out and they sent Kane after me.”

“I’ll be swinging, kicking, biting, scratching and clawing everything in my path – and Kane will be in my path. It’s not rocket science what my strategy has to be in a match like this. I have to throw punches until I can’t throw punches anymore. I have to really swing for the fences from bell to bell.”

On how he prepares for a match: “I listen to some Hank Williams before I go out. I tell some jokes. I have fun. I don’t waste too much energy thinking about it – I like to save that all for the ring. The calmest part of my day is right before a match.”

On feeding off of the crowd for energy: “That’s what you feed off of. That’s the energy and the electric jolt that will power you through every time.”

Linda McMahon On Building WWE With Vince, How She Measures Success & More

    3

Linda McMahon spoke at the Real Simple/TMIE Women and Success Panel in New York City on Wednesday. Below are some highlights of what Linda had to say.

On building WWE with her husband Vince McMahon: “I’ve been often asked, did you never dream you would be where you are today? And I say no, because you were too busy building, doing, step by step… As the company grew, and all of those different departments began to mesh, we kept looking at great success in the things we were doing, I would step back and say ‘where are you now compared to where you were before you did this thing?”

On how she measures success: “My measure of success is how many jobs and lives we have affected internally, within the company… and having an opportunity to mentor some of the young people who have come along. The first success was about building the company. And then once you’ve built the company, how do you continue to do that? So to have success today is to look around and see that we’re continuing to put smiles on people’s faces.”

  • TNA & Global Force Reportedly Talking With The Same Networks

    14

With TNA currently shopping around Impact Wrestling in hopes of landing a new home for their flagship show in 2015, it appears that they’ve got some competition in Jeff Jarrett’s upstart Global Force Wrestling promotion.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, both TNA and Global Force are negotiating with several of the same networks in hopes of securing a TV deal for next year. It’s been rumored that TNA the companies TNA has been in talks with include CMT, WGN and Velocity.

It’s believed that TNA has the upper hand over Global Force, since TNA is an operational company with a proven track record of drawing approximately 1 million viewers per week.

On the downside (for both companies), general interest in new wrestling programming is limited and Spike TV not renewing Impact does not help the leverage of either company.

Another issue with TNA’s TV negotiations is that most of the stations they are talking with do not air in Canada, which has always been a strong region for pro wrestling.

Ricardo Rodriguez Talks About What Led To His WWE Release & More

    31

Former WWE Superstar Ricardo Rodriguez was a guest on the Busted Open radio show this week and spoke an spoke about a number of topics related to his time with the company.

Here’s what he said about the “tipping point” that led to his release:

“Well, it wasn’t just one thing. It was a serious of events that I was like ah, just screw it. A lot of was A) they had nothing for me. I and Del Rio kept pitching ideas to bring us back together. We knew and we thought we did pretty well together and we eventually knew they were going to split us up. One day they came up to us and told us ‘Okay this is what we are doing’. We’re like oh ok, thank you. It wasn’t just that though they had issues with money, I wasn’t making money anymore.

If you talk to anyone from WWE they will tell you that you make your money on house shows and not on TV your money is on the house show. I got taking off of those I was off and I wasn’t doing anything and for the whole wrestling thing. I got unofficially sent down to FCW, I mean NXT. I refuse to call it FCW it will always be FCW to me. I started at FCW and it turned into NXT and I am still adjusting to the new name. I got unofficially sent down and I got hurt by one of their football players and I got punished for It which I weird and I took all these into consideration and I realized this is not fun for me.

If anybody knows that have been an extra for WWE and they know what I do backstage. Regal and I were running the tryouts for the extras so there is nobody in the world can I tell me I never had passion for wrestling. I was always the 1st person in the ring. WWE in a weird way made me hate wrestling so I got very bitter and I realized I got to stop this and I realized it was the company. So I woke up and said (explicative) I am not coming in. Yeah I called the office and told them I am not coming in; I want a release. They said let me call Vince and Paul and they will call you as soon as you can. I said no I am not coming in I am done.

They call me back on a Wednesday and say we will honor your release and I told them the whole shebang and ass kiss, ass kiss. That was it. It was a serious of things leading up to it; pitching ideas and there not having and then pitching ideas over at NXT. Then I got hurt by one of their morons; which are funny with the 8 years of wrestling I got hurt more in the WWE then the independent scene. I did a lot of stupid (Explicative).”

There’s much more to the interview, including working with Triple H, his time at NXT and thoughts on Alberto Del Rio’s release.

Apparently the current plan is for the Hell In A Cell show to actually start off with Cena vs. Ambrose, with the winner main eventing the show inside the cage against Rollins, while the loser, also in a cell match, would compete with Orton.

Update On Vince McMahon Not Wanting Total Divas Stars To Hold Divas Championship

    38

Regarding reports that Vince McMahon doesn’t want a cast member of WWE Total Divas to become WWE Divas Champion, it’s said that it was merely behind-the-scenes chatter until Total Divas cast member Cameron spoke out about it.

Cameron said the following regarding the alleged “rule” during her recent appearance on Chris Jericho’s “Talk Is Jericho” podcast:

“The whole thing we have been fighting is being on the show (means) not being able to have a chance at the title.”

As far as the rule itself is concerned, most believe that WWE officials do not want the Divas title to be confused due to the several month delay in Total Divas being taped and actually airing on television.

It’s good competing against your friends and creating that environment where what you do is fun but what you do also brings out the best in each other. it’s a very cool dynamic.”

On when he is going to be on Raw again: “Oooh, next week? No I’m joking. You never know when that opportunity is going to come but when it comes I’m ready. I’m ready to go, I’m ready for my chance so fingers crossed, it won’t be too far around the corner.”

  • Backstage News On WWE Network Negatively Affecting PPV Payoffs To WWE Stars

    32

The payoffs for the first few pay-per-view shows following WrestleMania with the new formula are in and according to reports, are said to be described as “really bad.” Many are speculating that this points to the fact that talents are getting paid based on pay-per-view revenue and are seeing nothing extra from all of the pay-per-view revenue that has been eliminated due to the WWE Network.

It’s worth being mentioned, however, that there are a few people that are being “taken care of” and a few who have specific deals that prevent this type of thing from affecting them, although for the most part, this has hurt pretty much everyone when it comes to payoffs for pay-per-view shows.

Bo Dallas On Having Bray Wyatt On The Road With Him, WWE 2K15 & More

    16

The following are highlights of a Sporting News interview with Bo Dallas:

On being in the WWE 2K15 game: “I didn’t know it coming in today. I saw it walking in, they were playing my entrance. Being in a WWE video game is a lifelong dream, a benchmark that I set in my career. Today, that happened. I don’t think words can really describe how I feel about it. This is amazing. I’m still kind of soaking it in.”

On having his brother [Bray Wyatt] on the road with him: “I mean, yeah, we see each other and it’s great to have a family member on the road to bounce ideas off of. It’s already hard enough traveling as much as we do so it’s great to have a family member that you can talk to on the road. It’s really cool.”

  • Chris Jericho Set To Return To WWE In November?

    25

Chris Jericho, who reportedly finished up his latest run with WWE at the Night Of Champions pay-per-view, is still advertised to appear at the upcoming WWE European tour in November.

According to the official WWE events page, Jericho is scheduled to appear at the November 10th, 11th and 15th shows, with the 11th being the most interesting, as that is a WWE SmackDown television taping in England.

If Jericho was a full-time guy, it could be chalked up to being a simple mistake. For example, Bad News Barrett was listed for those dates but was eventually pulled off of the advertising when word got out to the proper people. In Jericho’s case, however, the only reason he would be advertised after Night Of Champions is if he was booked to appear.

It’s also worth noting that Jericho teased that he “might be returning sooner than you think” during a recent interview.

  • Backstage Update On The Wyatt Family Splitting Up In The Near Future

    90

As noted after The Wyatt Family vignettes aired on Monday’s RAW, the word within WWE is that they absolutely plan on splitting up the faction and having all three guys go their separate, individual ways.

There’s no word as to which, if any, of the three will turn babyface in the process, although early speculation is that Bray Wyatt is set to turn.

As far as when the split happens, there is no definite timetable, however many assume that the vignettes on Monday’s RAW was WWE’s way of starting the process.

We’ve also heard from a source in WWE that there’s talk of The Ascension being paired with Bray Wyatt when they get called up.

    5

As noted on Tuesday, Jim Ross spoke with the folks at Sporting News for a promotional interview for his MMA announcing debut this coming Friday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Below are highlights from the discussion.

On possibly doing commentary work for New Japan Pro Wrestling: “I’m very interested in doing special projects and that certainly would be on that list of a special project. And I think if they were serious about their marketing of their pay-per-views — and I guess their big show is January 4th — that if they were really serious about that event being a hit in the English-speaking countries, that I might be able to help them. I think their style is right down my alley. They’re physical, they’re intense, their wrestling is logical and I am a fan of it. But I wouldn’t want to do it in a TV studio somewhere and doing it as a voiceover. If I did it, I’d want to be in Tokyo.”

On possibly doing some college football commentary: “I would love to put my toe in the water on one of their Thursday night games, a college football game. I’m still selfish in my own desires that I want to watch every Oklahoma game as long as I’m healthy to travel and I’m feeling great. But I would love the opportunity to be a part of a Fox college broadcast on one of their Thursday night games and that way I get the best of both worlds. I could do the game, be a part of the broadcast team and then make my way to see the Sooners play on Saturday.”

    3

The following are highlights of a new Sami Zayn interview:

On being in WWE 2K15: “I don’t remember hearing it initially. I was just at Full Sail one time for NXT and 2K was there and kind of just put me in a room and it was sort of you might be in the game, you might not, we’re not sure exactly. But the next thing I know, we flew to California, (Adrian) Neville and I, to do that motion-capture for certain moves that we do. So we put on the whole velcro suit and it was pretty cool, pretty surreal honestly.”

O recently wrestling on RAW: “It was cool. Being on the road, for me, it just feels natural. I’m more used to that than being here honestly. This was an adjustment, coming to the performance center and not being on the road was the adjustment for me because I came from a wrestling background and was used to being quite busy. Now we’re getting back on the road, a few of us, (Adrian) Neville, myself and Tyler Breeze, The Ascension got a couple of opportunities. We’ve been on the road recently and it really just feels like home, honestly. Doing those three hour, four hour car rides … that’s cake and that feels right.”

The following are highlights of a new Sporting News interview with Bray Wyatt:

On being in the new WWE 2K15 game: “I think the game is pretty cool. As far as my appearance in the game, I think it’s pretty spot on. They could have made me a little more jacked, that would have been more realistic. My muscles are a little smaller in the game than they are in real life so I’m a little upset about that but as far as from an entrance perspective and gameplay, wow, it’s just breathtaking.”

On getting cheered by audiences: “I don’t think I’m a category. I can’t be put in a category just because I don’t feel like there’s good people and bad people in real life. I think there’s good people who do bad things and bad people who do good things. There’s no such thing as good and bad. There’s just this collage of humanity that society has portrayed. You dress like this when you’re in front of people but behind closed doors, who knows who you really are.”

On the past year in the WWE: “It’s been tremendous but it’s not enough. It’s never enough. So it’s like the tenacity to move forward and jeep moving forward. And the things I have planned that are coming up are going to be alarming for the rest of the world, the free world.”

  • Stephanie McMahon On Being WWE’s Top Heel, Many Injuries In WWE & More

    20

WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon spoke to ChicagoNow.com this week to promote Monday’s RAW. Here are some highlights of what she said about:

Being One Of The Top Heels in WWE:

“I wouldn’t say I am taking over for my Dad. My husband and I are involved in a fun storyline where we represent the ‘evil owners’. Playing the bad guy is so much fun for me and I’m not sure why. But it’s very impactful when I do the community service such as the anti-bully campaign. I have the opportunity to tell these kids about entertainment versus reality. Are whole goal is to give these kids tools to stand up to bullying.

It’s funny when I get to show footage during a speaking engagement such as Hijack Raw that happened in Chicago. I will often to show footage that features my character in villainous light and people laugh. The speech I’m giving is in my executive voice and me as a person. Seeing me in character is a complete opposite take of who I am outside of the ring. It’s fun and enjoyable and at the end of the day that’s what it’s all about.”

    Top Superstars Getting Injured:

“In terms of the creative writing process, injuries will happen. We just have to prepare for those types of unforeseen incidents. NXT is absolutely one level of our developmental systems. That is really our foundation. The NXT slogan is ‘The Future Is Now’ and we have to prepare the next superstars and divas for that call they could get at any time. The plan also is to have several talent at many levels ready to move up when an injury occurs.”

She also said she’d love for WWE to return to Chicago for another WrestleMania.
