Kurt Angle Reportedly Upsets HHH After Incident During Negotiations With WWE

96

Kurt Angle recently made inquiries to WWE about a return to the company, attempting to speak with Triple H, who reportedly blew him off. Angle apparently called Vince McMahon at this point, who told him that Triple H handles the talent decisions.

As a result, Triple H is said to be upset with Angle for what he feels was an attempt to go over his head.

Angle has noted in recent interviews that he would like to return to WWE, but also mentioned that he doesn’t feel he can work a full-time schedule these days.

  • Update On WWE Moving Next Year’s SummerSlam To The East Coast

    13

WWE announced that they will break an annual tradition with next year’s SummerSlam, moving the event from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California to the New York/New Jersey market.

As things stand now, WWE will most likely run the show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, or the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. There is also talk of trying to run MetLife Stadium.

Apparently the feeling in the company is that it’s just too expensive to run Madison Square Garden in New York for a major show these days compared to other arenas in the market.

  • Alberto Del Rio Talks In-Depth About Incident That Led To His WWE Firing & More

    35

Alberto Del Rio, who is now going by the name Alberto El Patron in Mexico’s AAA promotion, recently appeared on the Televisa show “Primero Noticias.” Below is a recap of the appearance, courtesy of PWInsider.com.

On being fired, Del Rio said there was an incident, an altercation with a WWE employee, that one day he’ll give all of the details on. Right now he’s assessing the best way to do so via legal means, so that everything he says isn’t used against him, since legal matters in the U.S. are handled differently than they are in Mexico.

He said there was an incident where he was offended, where he was completely the victim. He said WWE made a statement that he displayed unprofessional conduct, and that yes it’s true, that he smacked the WWE employee because as he always says, you can take away his job but you can’t take away his dignity and his pride, nor try to offend or humiliate where he comes from, which is of course Mexico, and he doesn’t forget his roots. This problem led to the termination of his contract with WWE.

The interviewer asked if ADR was the victim of racism. Alberto says yes, that there were comments this employee made, and that he admitted he reacted in an inappropriate manner. He said that he wouldn’t advise anyone to conduct themselves in the manner that he did. He admitted that he “smacked” the WWE employee and that he is completely embarrassed by his own attitude and by his own reaction, but in that moment, he demanded an apology.

The interviewer interrupted ADR and asked what the employee said to him, Alberto says that part he’s gonna keep to himself for now. He said he’s a few days away from being able to tell the world exactly what happened. He said that a lot of people know what happened because there were many people present there in the WWE catering area. The interviewer asks who else was there, Alberto says right next to him was Jack Swagger, one of the referees was behind him, people from the crew, etc. They were all eating in Laredo, Texas at a TV taping.

ADR said he spoke to Vince McMahon after the incident occurred and everything appeared to be fine. Interviewer backs up to the incident, Alberto says someone said something to the WWE employee, and when he responded to the comment, the response was directed at Alberto.

The interviewer asks if he’s had any incidents with this employee before and Alberto says yes. He said that “a while back” there was a time the WWE employee was pretending to read something on his laptop and said, “It says on here Alberto is a ‘tal por cual’ “ (Mexican slang for a slut) and that he tried to play it off like it was a joke and shake Alberto’s hand. Alberto refused and told the employee to get away from him. He said this incident occurred 7 or 8 months prior to the slap. So when this incident occurred recently, Alberto demanded an apology, but that the WWE employee walked right up to Alberto’s face, smirked at him and said nothing. That’s when Alberto smacked him. Again, he said he is embarrassed by his reaction, but he doesn’t regret it. He said that yes, it cost him his job, but he thinks WWE is the one who loses the most in this situation.

The interviewer asks if it was another wrestler who he had this incident with, Alberto says no, that it’s their Social Media Manager. He says he never even knew this person’s name until after all of this happened. WWE released a statement saying Alberto was fired due to unprofessional conduct, but he wonders why they didn’t mention there was an isolated incident that led to his unprofessional conduct.

Alberto said after the incident happened, Vince McMahon asked to speak to him. Alberto said that Vince himself told him that he understood where Alberto was coming from and why he was upset by the comment, because first he’s insulted and then after the insult the guy smirks in his face. Vince said that he understood ADR’s reaction. Everything appeared to be fine after his talk with Vince.

ADR was suspended the next day, which he understood, but that for reasons WWE later decided, they changed their mind and was let go.

Alberto said Triple H called him Thursday morning and told him that it hurts WWE more because they’ve invested a lot of time and money into him, but that they need to let him go. Alberto told him that it was fine, and that once his release was made public AAA contacted him, Japan contacted him, some North American promotions as well.

Alberto said that he has not had any other conversations with WWE since his release, but that word got out of what happened from other people who witnessed the incident occur.

He said going forward, he’s using El Patron now since WWE owns “Alberto Del Rio” (his real name is Jose Alberto Rodriguez). They asked him if he’s going to sue WWE, he said he’s not sure. He said that the reason he went to a lawyer is because when he received his release in the mail, they mentioned he couldn’t wrestle in the United States for a year. ADR admitted he’s not fully familiar with the laws in the U.S. but he thinks it’s unconstitutional to prevent him from wrestling, since that’s how he makes a living and feeds his family.

Del Rio was asked if he wants to wrestle again in the U.S. He says no and that he was already considering not signing a new contract when his contract was up next February. He said he wasn’t sure if he was going to stay or go, so he’s not sure what would have happened, but unfortunately this incident happened which forced him out of the company. He spoke with his wife after he was let go and decided he wasn’t going to pursue legal action against WWE, but then he received his termination letter with the 1 year no compete clause and that changed everything.

    19

Heading into Sunday’s match between Chris Jericho and Bray Wyatt at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view, one of the original ideas was to center the entire match around building up the Wyatt character.

Apparently, Wyatt was also scheduled to win the first meeting between he and Jericho at the WWE Battleground pay-per-view, however Vince McMahon reportedly changed his mind at the last minute.

Jericho has mentioned in the past that he is scheduled to wrap up his current run with WWE after the upcoming WWE Night Of Champions pay-per-view, as he is going on tour with his rock band Fozzy. As things stand now, the current plan is for a third match between Jericho and Wyatt at Night Of Champions, with the match having some sort of stipulation.

  • 5 Questions Following Monday’s Raw (8/18)

    36

Last night’s Raw was held in Las Vegas, Nevada and featured a total of seven matches, including another classic between Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

Notably absent was former WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena, as he was recovering from injuries sustained at SummerSlam. Overall, a few questions were answered, but many still remain. Here are five questions that need to be answered following this week’s episode of Raw.

    5. Can Big Show/Mark Henry Generate Interest?

    will-the-world-strongest-team-get-a-title-shot-at-summerslam

The so-called “World’s Largest Team” has been running through the tag team division over the past week or so. The two giants once again teamed up this week on Raw, destroying Luke Harper and Erick Rowan in a relatively short contest.

Both of these guys have been largely absent over the past few months, so it’s good to see some sort of program, but can they generate interest as a tag team? With the Usos having beaten every team on the roster, it makes sense to find new challengers and I think Show/Henry against the Usos could make for a decent program. Obviously both teams are working as faces, so the best way to go about the feud could be to turn Show and Henry heel.

    4. Should Swagger Be Given More Time to Speak?

    jack-swagger-ses-1

Zeb Colter was notably absent last night after taking a kick from Rusev at SummerSlam. In his absence, Jack Swagger cut a surprisingly decent promo before his match with Cesaro.

Although Colter has served as Swagger’s mouthpiece for well over a year and the only words I’ve heard come out of Swagger’s mouth are “We the People,” I believe he should be given more time to speak. It would allow him to develop a non-robotic character, while also still receiving mentorship from one of the top managers in the business.

Dean Ambrose Written Off WWE TV On RAW Last Night, Austin Interviews Kamala

    42

    – Apparently the reason Dean Ambrose was taken out on a stretcher on RAW last night was to write him off of WWE television for a while. Ambrose is set to film the WWE Studios movie “Lockdown” in the near future.

    – The latest edition of Steve Austin’s “Steve Austin Show” podcast, which features an interview with Kamala, is now online. The official description for the show reads as follows:

SASc – EP143 – Kamala aka James Harris

“James Harris aka Kamala never wanted to be a professional wrestler, but loved it once he fell into it! Hear his story from his sharecropping days in Mississippi to his time in the ring in Mexico, Europe, Germany, and finally WWF. Find out who gave him his Kamala gimmmick, how he became friends with Andre The Giant, and what it was like in the ring with Jerry Lawler, The Rock & Roll Express, Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, and Bruiser Brody. Plus, hear about his short-lived stint with NWA, how Vince McMahon tracked him down, and what made him start leapfrogging people in the squared-circle!”

  • WWE Provides Update On Dean Ambrose’s Condition, Says He Is Missing

    46

Following last night’s edition of RAW, where Dean Ambrose was stretchered out of the arena after taking a Curb Stomp from Seth Rollins on some cinder blocks, the official WWE website has a storyline update on Ambrose’s condition.

According to the website, Ambrose suffered extensive head and spine trauma. They also noted that he escaped from WWE trainers and is on the loose.

Below is an excerpt from the article, which features comments from WWE’s Dr. Chris Amann:

“As you saw during the match with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, toward the end of the match, Dean had sustained what we thought was pretty significant head and cervical spine trauma, so as a precaution we immobilized his neck, placed him on a stretcher and removed him from the ring area and brought him backstage. At the time of bringing him backstage, he was responsive and was refusing transport to a local medical facility for further evaluation. He had removed the straps and surgical collar, said he refused to go and we haven’t seen him since.”

  • Seth Rollins Reveals If He Has Creative Control Over His Character & More

    13

The following are highlights of a new AZ Central interview with Seth Rollins:

Q: Before you signed with WWE, you worked with other wrestling organizations. Is there a big difference?

A: Sometimes I wrestled in front of very small crowds for very small amounts. I’ve done bingo halls and tents in front of 10 people with a cow mooing in the background. Doing that and then going to Wrestlemania and the Superdome and wrestling in front of 80,000 people is night and day.

The crazy thing is that at the core of it all, however you’re doing it, in front of however many people, it’s the same. You’re telling a story and interacting with the crowd.

Q: Do you have a lot of control over your persona?

A: I haven’t run into too many hiccups as far as creative control. The guys here are really talented and they do amazing, original programming 52 weeks a year. It’s really unprecedented as far as live television is concerned.

Q: So how much of Seth Rollins is you?

A: It’s a lot of me with a little bit of WWE added in. They’re expert at creating brands and marketing brands. We brainstormed and developed and turned Seth Rollins into the kind of cool persona I really enjoy being a part of. You have to have some of you in that.

Stephanie McMahon & The Bella Twins Open RAW

The post SummerSlam edition of WWE RAW opens up with highlights of last night’s pay-per-view, covering every match on the show and all of the finishes. From there, we shoot live inside the arena in Las Vegas and immediately we hear Daniel Bryan’s theme song.

Instead of Bryan coming out, however, Stephanie McMahon comes out with a “Steph! Steph! Steph!” t-shirt in the same design as Bryan’s “Yes! Yes! Yes!” shirt. She skips down to the ring doing the “Yes!” chant. Once she enters the ring, her normal theme hits and we shoot to the announce table who run down what happened with Nikki Bella in the Steph-Brie Bella match last night at SummerSlam.

Stephanie talks about how successful SummerSlam was last night, noting that it was more critically acclaimed on social media than WrestleMania was. She says they will be awarding the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt to Brock Lesnar. She then talks about Lesnar’s brutal, one-sided beat down of John Cena.

She goes on to discuss how Chris Jericho learned a lesson in humility in a losing effort against Bray Wyatt. She talks about Dean Ambrose losing to “Mr. Money In The Bank himself.” She says by far the biggest loser of the night was her opponent, Brie Bella. She says she learned first-hand that you do not mess with The Authority. She says The Authority never loses and we can re-watch what happened last night on the WWE Network “for only $9.99.”

Steph goes on to thank her husband Triple H for “being her rock” and for always standing by her side, unlike Daniel Bryan, who cheated on Brie Bella because he realized who she finally is. She says here’s the person who knows Brie the best. With that said, she brings out Nikki Bella.

Nikki Bella comes out in a hot dress and walks to the ring with a sour-puss look on her face. When she gets in the ring, the chants break out in Las Vegas, with everyone chanting “you sold out.” Stephanie asks for Nikki’s point of view on what she did last night. At first, Nikki’s microphone doesn’t work but she doesn’t seem to realize it. Eventually, they get the mic working.

Nikki says originally it was supposed to be The Bella Twins against the world. The fans are hitting Nikki with the “what?” chants after every thing she says. Nikki says Brie didn’t turn out to be the person she had hoped she would. She says ever since they were kids everything was always about Brie. She brings up the Total Divas storyline by saying Brie always tells her she’ll never get married.

Stephanie chimes in and asks if Brie tried to beat Nikki to the alter to rub it in her face. Nikki says yes and then insults Daniel Bryan’s physical appearance and talks about how he cheated on her. Stephanie brags some more about beating Brie and then does another “$9.99” plug. Nikki pretends to get emotional and says she’s stressed out over this situation. She says she could say she lost a sister, but she never really had one. She says now that she doesn’t have the burden of Brie around her neck she is free.

As Steph and Nikki continue to talk, out walks Brie Bella in her “Brie Mode” shirt. The fans chant “Yes! Yes! Yes!” as she makes her way to the ring. She tells Nikki she loves her and that they’re sisters. She says Nikki has ruined the family. She says she can forgive her. Nikki says “you can forgive me?!” and then bitch-slaps her down to the ground. She says “I will never forgive you.” Brie gets emotional and leaves the ring crying and holding her face where Nikki just slapped her. The segment ends with dead silence. Pretty moving stuff.

Big Show & Mark Henry vs. Luke Harper & Erick Rowan

As we head to our first commercial break of the evening, we are informed by the announcers that up next will be a tag-team match. It will be the new duo of Mark Henry and Big Show taking on Luke Harper and Erick Rowan. We head to break.

When we return from commercial, after a quick replay of what just went down between The Bella Twins in the opener, the music of Luke Harper and Erick Rowan plays and out come The Wyatt Family members to the ring. After that, Big Show’s music hits and out he comes with Mark Henry. The two walk to the ring together for this tag-team bout.

Show and Henry dominate the action early on, taking turns beating down both of The Wyatt Family members. As Harper and Rowan are knocked out to the outside of the ring on the floor, we head to a mid-match commercial.

We return from the break and not much has changed, as we see Harper rolling out to the floor as Show stands tall in the ring. On that note, however, Harper rolls back in the ring and manages to get in some offense against “The World’s Largest Athlete.” Harper and Rowan double-team Show and knock him out to the floor.

Harper and Rowan are now taking turns beating up Big Show, keeping him isolated in the ring as they utilize quick-tags to keep a fresh guy on the big man. At one point, Rowan actually scoops Big Show up with relative ease and slams him down. The crowd popped for that pretty big. They show some replays of it as well.

Big Show finally catches Rowan with a DDT to slow him down, allowing him to make the tag to Mark Henry. Henry takes the hot tag and is cleaning house of anything in sight. Henry goes for The World’s Strongest Slam, but Harper interfered and helped Rowan avoid it and regain offensive control.

As Harper and Rowan were double-teaming Henry, Big Show re-enters the picture and catches one of them with a knockout punch. Henry follows up with The World’s Strongest Slam on the other for the 1-2-3.

Winners: Big Show & Mark Henry

    What’s On Tap For Tonight?

Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz in a SummerSlam rematch for the Intercontinental Championship is announced for later tonight, as well as a big six-man tag-team match with Sheamus, Roman Reigns and Rob Van Dam taking on the trio of Ryback, Curtis Axel and Randy Orton. On that note, we head to another commercial.

  • Jim Ross Blog: WWE SummerSlam Thoughts, Lesnar’s Destruction Of Cena & More

The following are highlights of the latest blog by WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On his thoughts on WWE SummerSlam: “I thought Summer Slam was a really good show. From the untouchable broadcast opening, which no one in TV does better within their genre than WWE, to the jaw dropping main event that unleashed the legit beast that is Brock Lesnar, Summer Slam was a ‘transitional show’ that we may look back upon in the coming years and say that was the show that changed the course of WWE.

From developing Lesnar’s next opponent, and his future opponents, to watching the evolution of the next level of main event stars, this is going to be an interesting notwithstanding crucial time within WWE as it relates to their ‘creative’ direction but more importantly, in my eyes, their overall booking philosophy.

The way to sell more $9.99 WWE Network isn’t overstated marketing plans heavy on rhetoric and redundancy but getting the brand hot again and making RAW, and Smackdown to a slightly lesser degree, more ‘must see.’ The hotter the product is the more consumers will want to experience it in any form that they can including the Network which I personally enjoy.

Seems that this is the time for WWE upper mgmt to rely on those with extensive product knowledge and less on the creative types whose strengths are seemingly writing promos and campy skits. There are some excellent ‘wrestling people’ there than can and should step up and express themselves.

Summer Slam was action heavy and the talk was efficiently succinct and timely. Hence, the event was easier to watch and process.”

On Brock Lesnar’s destruction of John Cena: “Regarding Lesnar’s dominating performance against Cena, too many people are already leaving/forgetting that performance and it’s impact to look a head and fixate on who’s next for Lesnar and how can it be possible that any one can ever beat him. Firstly, in the land of sports entertainment, a variety of things can occur to create the ‘impossible’ but my take on this is to see Lesnar sporadically defend the title, please don’t live or die on the “30 Day Rule,” while new challengers are being developed.”
