Batista Pulled From Advertising For WWE Live Event In Las Vegas, Update On Second Reported Appearance

4

The time frame for Batista’s reported return to WWE is no longer clear.

UNLVTickets.com, the official ticketing company for the Las Vegas-based Thomas & Mack Center, is no longer advertising “The Animal” for WWE’s scheduled non-televised event at the venue on Sunday, February 16, 2014. A graphic featuring the six-time world champion was also removed.

On Friday evening, the ticketing company prematurely revealed that Batista would be returning to WWE for the show in the following promotional message: “WWE’s Road to Wrestlemania will make a stop at Las Vegas’ Thomas and Mack Center on Sunday, February 16. Don’t miss your favorite WWE Superstars including: CM Punk, The Shield, Big Show, Kane, the WWE Divas and much more! Plus, see the special return of “The Animal” Batista, LIVE!”

Sources within the company confirmed to PWInsider.com that while the 44-year-old is coming back, it was meant to be kept as a surprise.

This was not the only advertising miscue as Jeramie McPeek, Vice President of Digital Operations for the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, revealed on Twitter Friday night that Batista would appear at another non-televised event; scheduled for Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The message was quickly deleted.

Batista had been contemplating a return to WWE since last spring, but his acting schedule prevented him from making a commitment until recently. He claimed in subsequent media interviews that he left the company in 2010 due to unhappiness with the family-friendly product.

On Friday’s SmackDown, Shield member Roman Reigns unleashed a Superman punch on John Cena that is getting a lot of attention online. Reigns has been making a strong case for the ‘Breakout Star of 2013’ in recent months – with a dominant display at Survivor Series and his Spear becoming more devastating each time he uses it. Reigns has used the Superman punch before, but now it’s clear he’s adopting it as the latest weapon in his offensive arsenal.

Jim Ross Q&A: WWE Network, The Shield, Jericho’s WWE Debut, Rock-HOF

1

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated the Q&A section of his website at JRsBarBQ.com.

When Chris Jericho first debuted with his promo at The Rocks expense, how electrifying was the atmosphere?

“It was massive. Set up perfectly. Excellent booking.”

Which of the 3 members of The Shield do you think will make the most impact in WWE?

“I like them all. Obviously Reigns is breaking out. All tbd. ”

JR when do you think it is the right time for WWE to induct The Rock in the WWE Hall of Fame?

“Any time both parties are ready.”

With talk of the WWE Network seeming to come up more and more, I have wondered if there is potential for certain independent promotions to get television deals with WWE. What, in your estimation, would be the positives and negatives of giving promotions like ROH, PWG, Dragongate USA, etc. a television deal?

“Let’s just say that there’s no business like show business.”

MAJOR Update On BATISTA Returning To WWE

Tensai Responds To Brodus Clay Turning On Him

7

Tensai gained retribution against Brodus Clay tonight on SmackDown as “Sweet T” scored a victory over his former Tons of Funk partner. Xavier Woods and The Funkadactyls danced atop of the ramp, allowing Sweet T to roll up a distracted Clay for the win.

Prior to the bout, Tensai called out Clay in a WWE App interview with Renee Young. He said, “Brodus, you run around here calling yourself a main event playa. For seventeen years I’ve been in this business, I’ve been in a main event or two. You know nothing about main events. You disrespected Xavier. You disrespected R-Truth. You disrespected me and every other main-eventer to come before you.”

Tensai continued, “In this business, people come in and out of our lives, like that. And Brodus, Tons of Funk came into my life and it served a purpose. And Monday, served a purpose. It lit a fire under my rear-end. And Brodus, main event playa, I’m coming for ya.”

The match marks as Tensai’s first televised bout since the April 22, 2013 episode of Raw, where he defeated Cody Rhodes.

Batista Returning To WWE

An advertisement for an upcoming WWE Live Event in February has spoiled some major news – former WWE Champion Batista is returning to WWE.

As announced Friday evening, the official website of the Thomas & Mack Center is advertising the Batista will be appearing at the WWE Live Event from Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, February 16, 2014

Sources in WWE are saying this is not an advertising error as he is indeed coming back.

Advertising was reportedly released prematurely, spoiling WWE’s planned surprise (which would take place in time for WrestleMania season).

Batista, who is now 44-years-old, had been contemplating a return to WWE since last spring in discussions with Triple H. However, his acting schedule prevented him from making a commitment until recently.

Former WWE Diva Talks About Confrontation With BATISTA That Got Her Fired

One source speculated that Batista will appear for WWE until he is called to promote Guardians, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 1, 2014.

Batista last appeared for WWE in 2010, with his final match resulting in a loss to John Cena. He later stated in media interviews that he left WWE due to unhappiness with the company’s family-friendly product. He did not, however, rule out a return to the organization as he has said that he would be interested in having another run.

WWE SmackDown Results (12/20)

22

The following are WWE SmackDown results from San Antonio, Texas:

Dark Match

– The Usos def. Ryback & Curtis Axel in a tag-team opener. The Usos picked up the win by pinfall after hitting a top-rope splash.

WWE SmackDown

– Randy Orton came to the ring to cut a promo to open SmackDown. Orton said that winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at TLC awarded him nothing but a match the next night against Daniel Bryan. John Cena interupts Orton. Cena said he’s here to prevent Orton from looking like a fool. Cena said now that Orton is champion everyone is after him. Cena called Orton a “giant pussbag.” Cena says Orton took the easy way out on RAW by getting disqualified on purpose. Daniel Bryan comes out to a huge response. Bryan says Orton is afraid that he can beat him. Bryan said that when Cena gets his title rematch, Cena will win and then give him the title match he deserves. The Shield ends up coming out and attacks both of them until CM Punk came out to even the odds. Vickie Guerrero then comes out and says the main event tonight will be The Shield vs. John Cena, Daniel Bryan and CM Punk.

– Big E. Langston def. Jack Swagger. Langston got the win via pinfall after hitting Swagger with his “Big Finish” move in what was said to be a quick match.

– Brie Bella def. Tamina Snuka in Divas action. AJ Lee was on commentary during the match. Brie got the win by rolling Tamina up and then pushed AJ at ringside after the match.

– Wade Barrett did a “Bad News Barrett” segment.

– Sin Cara def. Drew McIntyre in singles action. This was said to be a pretty decent little match.

– Tensai def. Brodus Clay in singles action. Tensai got the win after a distraction from The Funkadactyls and Xavier Woods. After the match, Tensai and Woods cleared the ring.

– Luke Harper & Erick Rowan def. Goldust & Cody Rhodes in a non-title match. This was said to be one of the best matches of the evening. After the match, The Wyatt Family tried to attack Goldust and Cody Rhodes further, but Daniel Bryan came out and made the save. This led to another match being announced between all six of these guys.

– Daniel Bryan, Goldust & Cody Rhodes def. The Wyatt Family. This was apparently another really good match. The finish in this one came when Bryan hit his Running Knee finisher for the pinfall victory.

– Damien Sandow cut a promo about Christmas. The Miz ended up coming out and interupting him, which led to a match between these two guys.

– Damien Sandow def. The Miz in singles action. The finish here came when Sandow rolled Miz up and held the tights during the pin to get the 1-2-3.

– Fandango def. Kofi Kingston in singles action. The finish came when Fandango hit his top-rope leg drop finishing move on Kingston for the 1-2-3.

– Daniel Bryan gets attacked backstage by The Wyatt Family. This leads to a main event featuring John Cena & CM Punk vs. The Shield, since Bryan is hurt and can’t be the third member of the team.

– John Cena & CM Punk def. The Shield via DQ in a three-on-two handicap match. The finish came when the referee called for the bell after all three members of The Shield beat on CM Punk and refused to stop. At the end, Reigns speared Cena and then all three members of The Shield hit the triple-powerbomb on Punk. Big E. Langston ended up coming out to make the save, which is how SmackDown ended.

Dean Ambrose Talks About Working With The Undertaker & More

21

Earlier this week, The Shield appeared on the Onnit podcast. Here are some highlights that Dean Ambrose talked about:

Getting Called Up To The Main Roster: “By the time we actually got through sitting in Tampa for a while, we had all been down there for a long time… but by the time we were at like, we’re at Wrestlemania, we’re on the main stage, we’re doing our thing, because we got thrown right into the fire really quickly. We had a good little act with three rookies, and they just threw us right out there with the main eventers. We were working with John Cena, Randy Orton, Big Show.”

Working with Undertaker: “We were working with Undertaker in a six man tag in London. The most legendary, most intimidating figure in the history of the business, wrestles once, maybe twice per year. Usually once a year, he did an extra match that year, working with us in the six man tag.

“We had double-shotted [worked two shows] that day and did a show in Cardiff, Wales earlier in the day and they helicoptered us in to do the other show, which was a live RAW. We got there pretty much right as our music was playing, and pretty much had to go right up and right down into the crowd and right into the ring, which was nothing, nothing really worked out or anything.Someone proofread this. We were in there with Undertaker who, again, is one of the most legendary, intimidating guys in the business, but at this point we’re like the World Series guy, screw it, let’s just go out and do it.

“So we just went out there and did it. We were like, that was cool. It was like we’re at Wrestlemania, we’re on the main stage, we’re in the WWE. Hell yeah we are. This is where we belong. It doesn’t feel like whoa, this is such an accomplishment. It’s just like, no, it feels right. This is where we’re supposed to be.”

Former WWE Trainer Speaks On Best Performer Of 2013, Who To Look For In 2014

    6

The following are highlights of an “Against The Mat” interview with former WWE trainer Tom Prichard:

On who he felt had the best in-ring performance of 2013: “I like thinking about the newcomers, I like thinking about the guys who come from developmental, so I really have to say that for me personally, I’m gonna go with a Dean Ambrose vote just for the fact that I’m partial and I’m prejudice and all those things combined, so as far as seeing what he can do as a team, yes, but standing out on his own and having him win the United States Championship out of that team, or out of that crew, The Shield first was a major accomplishment for him and I think there’s more to come, definitely from Dean Ambrose.”

On who to watch out for in 2014: “I have my eye on Big E. Langston. Again, for personal and biased reasons. I had the advantage of seeing Big E. from the very beginning, his first tryout and watched him progress from there. I think we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg.”

Former WWE Superstar Speaks On People “Bagging” On CM Punk In WWE, More

    10

The following are highlights from a recent interview with former WWE Superstar Trevor Murdoch:

On what WWE thought about CM Punk when he first came in to the company: “I’m not going to name any names but when Punk was in developmental there were a lot of people bagging on him. They were like who is this guy? Tattooed up with a Pepsi symbol on his arm, what they thought was a Pepsi symbol on his arm and him being an internet sensation and indy sensation. They really couldn’t see the big picture the connection that he has with the fans when he goes out there. How much hard work he puts in his craft and when he steps out that curtain how much hard work he puts out there.”

On the differences in wrestling now as compared to when he was growing up: “The wrestling end of it is changing daily it’s not the sport that it was when I was younger following it. It’s more towards the entertainment end of it and that’s a machine you really can’t stop unless the fans change that…and what I mean by fans is that they all have to get together and speak loud and clear and let them know that’s what they want. Everything they (WWE) do on TV is based on what they do for viewership and it’s up to us as fans to change that. I respect the WWE and all it has done for me.”

  • Former WWE Official Talks About Inconsistency Of WrestleMania The Last Few Years

    7

Former WWE official Wes Adams has posted a new blog talking about WWE WrestleMania being inconsistent over the last few years, providing his opinion on each WrestleMania event since WrestleMania XXIV. Here is an excerpt:

“I’m surprised they haven’t changed the name of WrestleMania to EntertainaMania. Whoops, maybe I shouldn’t have typed that because now someone up there will read it and will use it. But WrestleMania is and rightfully should be where the best WRESTLING of the year takes place. So whatever glimpses of awesome wrestling moments we’re going to get, should happen there. It’s only my opinion but the last few years of WrestleMania have been so inconsistent that it makes my head hurt! One year it’s great, the next year it sucks.”

“To me, it feels like it started with WrestleMania XXIV. The Ric Flair “Career Threatening Match” Angle that ended with him losing to Shawn Michaels to me was the best angle they had produced in years. The Big Show return and feud with Floyd Mayweather produced some mainstream publicity, some good television, and a decent match. Edge and Undertaker were awarded the main event slot after carrying the SmackDown brand (my team haha) to some exciting and awesome television moments for WWE in 2007-2008, a solid undercard that featured Finlay vs. JBL, Umaga vs. Batista Brand Supremacy match, Money in the Bank won by CM Punk, and Cena/HHH/Orton Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship (eh.) But overall, it was a solid WrestleMania.”
