    WrestleMania 31 Location

We’re still several months out from WrestleMania XXX, but the WrestleMania 31 location has already been decided.

After months of bidding and negotiating with city officials from around the United States, WWE has selected Santa Clara, California as the host city for WrestleMania in 2015. Considering the fact that WrestleMania 29 brought over $100 million to the New York / New Jersey area the past year, this is a major score for the city.

The show will take place from the brand new Levis Stadium, which doesn’t open until next summer. The venue is the future home of the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers.

There will be an announcement this coming Tuesday from the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California

The 2015 WWE Hall Hall of Fame ceremony and  RAW the night after WrestleMania 31 will take place at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

Backstage News On Daniel Bryan’s Push, CM Punk/Shield Situation On RAW

    65

    – One of the most frustrating things about WWE over the past few months has been the handling of Daniel Bryan’s character. According to a backstage source in WWE, source, when it comes to Daniel Bryan’s push, it’s not that the WWE creative team didn’t want him to get revenge, win the WWE title or even gain some sort of symbolic win – it’s that no one on the creative team has the type of influence that Vince McMahon or Triple H have, who ultimately make the final call.

Sgt. Slaughter Talks About WWE Mistreating Daniel Bryan

    – Apparently the reason WWE promoted a match featuring “CM Punk vs. a member of The Shield on SmackDown” on RAW this past Monday night was because at around 10pm on Monday, Vince McMahon had yet to make up his mind on which of the three members of The Shield would be the best opponent for Punk.

Sgt. Slaughter Talks About Helping Name The Undertaker, WWE Mistreating Bryan & Ziggler

    10

The following are highlights from a Baltimore Sun interview with WWE Hall Of Famer Sgt. Slaughter:

On the way WWE is treating Daniel Bryan: “I don’t think he’s being treated fairly. [The people at WWE] are making him work awfully hard to be successful and he’s not letting them down. He’s working harder than ever. He’s like a giant slayer. He takes on the biggest and the best. Kind of like Dolph Ziggler — he’s another talent I thought he wasn’t being used right, and I brought it up in several production meetings that they shouldn’t do his character as they were.”

On Randy Orton’s rise through the ranks: “…A guy like Randy Orton, there wasn’t much to teach him inside the ring. I wrestled his grandfather and his father. All the teaching for him was done outside the ring. He was a tough nut to crack. He had a mind of his own, and still does. He’s another talent that exceeds and has so much ability.”

On helping name The Undertaker in WWE: “We would have meetings after shows to talk about what happened and plan things out creatively. The topic turned to Mark [Calloway] and Vince [McMahon] said he had an idea for a character name and he brought up the name Paul Bearer. The next day I went to Vince and I said I didn’t really care for that name for Mark in particular. I thought he looked different than that, and Vince said ‘like an Undertaker?’ and I said yeah! Maybe we should do Paul Bearer as his manager.”

Update On CM Punk’s Injuries, Talk Of Two Top Superstars Retiring

    31

As we’ve been reporting, CM Punk has been working through several injuries in recent weeks, with Punk himself tweeting this week about his busted ribs.

A source backstage at Tuesday’s WWE SmackDown tapings from Tulsa, Oklahoma says that Punk appeared to be sick and very banged up. He wrestled United States champion Dean Ambrose at the show (in a non-title match).

There was concern that Punk suffered a concussion and there was talk going around that he hurt his back on the November 25th episode of WWE RAW.

There continues to be talk behind the scenes that both CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio are still planning to retire “sooner than later.”

Major Update On The WWE Network, WWE Issues Statement

    25

WWE issued the following statement to Rajah.com this morning, addressing rumors about the WWE Network being launched in early 2014:

“In addition to not being able to confirm timing of WWE Network launch, WWE is still considering all options for distribution, pricing and role of pay-per-view.”

WWE is expected to officially announce the WWE Network launch at the 2014 CES convention next month in Las Vegas, Nevada. WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon is scheduled to appear at the event to make a ‘special announcement.’

Based on what we’ve been hearing this week, the WWE Network will not be launching as a television channel, but actually a 24/7 streaming mobile app, with access to monthly WWE pay-per-view events as well as every single episode of RAW, SmackDown and PPV event ever.

The rumored launch date for the WWE Network is February 24th.

Basically, Triple H is now in charge of the creative team, although Vince McMahon still has the final say in every part of the company.

Bret Hart Interview: Montreal Screwjob, Greatest Rival, Antonio Cesaro

    27

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart recently spoke to Metro.co.uk to promote the new WWE 2K14 video game. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Favorite WrestleMania Memories: “WrestleMania was a very special event for me, a bit like an American footballer playing in the Superbowl. I was there from the second one in 1986 to WrestleMania XIII in 1997. Facing The Nasty Boys at WrestleMania VII was one of my best tag-team matches and solidified my solo career, which virtually commenced the next day. Then Rowdy Roddy Piper at WrestleMania VIII established that my style and storylines were always going to be a little different to Hulk Hogan or Sycho Sid [Sid Vicious].”

His Greatest Rival: “There was a happy rivalry with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin in that he was a lot of fun to wrestle with, and I think I helped launch his career. But on the not so happy, the brilliant work I did with Shawn Michaels. You can never underestimate what we did at WrestleMania XII, even though it was the last match we had and part of the infamous Montreal Screwjob, it was still a fine match. I could have wrestled the Undertaker a few more hundred times as well.”

How He Now Views the Montreal Screwjob: “I’ve calmed down a lot. There were a lot of things I did to escalate that whole thing with [opponent] Shawn Michaels and [now WWE owner] Vince McMahon. I wouldn’t change anything I did in terms of my own conduct but I regret all of it. I wish I had never left the WWE but I’ve moved on. I went back and shook Shawn’s hand and it was good for everyone to bury the hatchet.”

Antonio Cesaro: “[He] is one of the best wrestlers going, if you ask me.”

NXT Star Solomon Crowe Debuts New Gimmick

    34

WWE NXT star Solomon Crowe (formerly Sami Callihan on the indy scene), debuted a new “hacker” gimmick at last night’s NXT live event in Tampa, Florida.

While Kalisto, the former Samuray del Sol, was in the ring hyping up the crowd during intermission, the lights went out and the sounds from an Emergency Broadcast Signal alarm went off. The lights flickered and when they came back on – Crowe was standing above Kalisto, who was laid out. Crowe had a tablet in hand, indicating that he had hacked the entire arena and took over the production controls.

Crowe didn’t speak but pressed a button on the tablet again, turning off the lights and disappearing. He tweeted:

WWE Planning “Music Of WWE” DVD Featuring Jim Johnston

    7

Next year, WWE will be releasing a “Music of WWE” DVD featuring music legendary WWE composer Jim Johnston.

Here is the official synopsis for the Music of WWE, courtesy of WrestlingDVDNews.com:

“Music has been integral in WWE history, especially anthems for all the greatest WWE Superstars. Since Sgt. Slaughter first made his entrance to the Marine Corp hymn in the early 80?s music themes have become synonymous with the Superstars themselves. Just hearing the first few notes brings the crowd to their feet. They are the songs that let the WWE Universe know that business is about to pick up. Now, get behind the music and learn the inside story behind the timeless anthems of WWE and the superstars.”

The current plan is to feature 25 different theme songs, with a behind-the-scenes look at how the music is made and how it connects with each Superstar’s character.

Hardy To Replace Richards At ROH Final Battle?, Richards Added To 12/14 CZW

    1

As previously reported, new WWE developmental talent Davey Richards was pulled from his “farewell match” at the upcoming Ring Of Honor “Final Battle” event on December 14th in New York City. Richards, who was scheduled to team up with Eddie Edwards to take on the duo of Jay Lethal and Roderick Strong, was reportedly pulled due to some comments he made in a Total Wrestling Magazine interview in the United Kingdom.

Richards has since been announced as a participant in the competing Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) show on the same night in Vorhees, New Jersey. Richards will work on the “Cage of Death” show on 12/14 in an unannounced match. Also on that show will be former WWE NXT star Kassius Ohno, who is returning to his “Chris Hero” persona, as he faces CZW Heavyweight Champion Drew Gulak.

As far as the ROH “Final Battle” show is concerned, Matt Hardy recently took to his YouTube account to release a video promo he did claiming he will “help ROH out” and give the aforementioned Edwards a “farewell rub” as he offered to replace Richards and work alongside Edwards in the tag-team match against Lethal and Strong.

  • Big E Langston Talks About His IC Title Win, Learning From John Cena, AJ-Ziggler

    2

WWE Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston recently spoke with The Miami Herald to promote his new WWE 2K14 character as part of the latest DLC pack. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Fans Supporting His IC Title Win: “It’s something I hoped was there, but was so rewarding when I got [that fan reaction], it was one of those things where I wasn’t sure [it would happen]. After being a bodyguard, there was about a month-and-a-half period where I wasn’t doing a whole lot, and I don’t think I was on Raw very much. So I was a little worried I would lose momentum, but it was really cool. Even before that, getting 75 percent of the fan vote against Miz and Dolph [Ziggler] to get the match with Randy Orton, I’ve been so thankful for their support.”

Carrying the IC Title: “The Intercontinental title has such a great history of champions before me like Pat Patterson and The Rock. For me, I feel as if I have this sense of responsibility with upholding that prestige and honor. I want the title to be seen as an important title. That is something that is on me with the way I carry myself, the way I perform and every night I make sure people remember it as an important title. I look to be world champion, and it’s a goal that is very important to me, but upholding the prestige of the Intercontinental championship is important to me as well.”

Being with AJ Lee and Dolph Ziggler: “Being with AJ and traveling with her and Dolph was really cool. One of the things I admired about her is how driven she is. She is focused and aware of her brand and the message she wants to get across to fans as well. So I’ve always respected that about her. She is very cognitive about what she does inside the ring and outside of it. I’ve also been able to learn from Dolph as well when we were together. Even now, he has been helpful. That first six to seven-month period of being a bodyguard was great because it allowed me the opportunity to ease into my time in WWE and to learn. It was a great start.”

Learning from John Cena: “John’s been great. I’ve been able to work out of his gym the last few years now and kind of pick his brain at times as well. He has given me advice and little things to make me better throughout the years. One of the things he told me ‘owning the moment.’ When you’re out there, you really do have an opportunity to make a memorable moment. That’s kind of one of the things I learned from him.”

Jim Ross Launching Podcast, His Thoughts On Undertaker’s WrestleMania Opponent

    8

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com.

As a reminder to fans, tickets for JR’s first 2 one-man shows in New York City (3/1/14) are now on sale at Ticketmaster.com. JR also announced that he will be starting a podcast soon.

Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30: “It appears that the smart money, or is it, is on Brock Lesnar facing the Undertaker at WM30. That seems to be the strongest sentiment making the rounds online. For the record, I don’t know as it’s not my hill to die upon these days and I’m merely speculating. On paper, Lesnar vs. The Undertaker is an impressive match IF Lesnar is re-branded/re-energized to the WWE fan base as the indestructible “killer” that he can be.”

JR also stressed the importance of both men appearing on WWE television in the weeks leading up to a potential match, in order to maximize interest and dramatic build. “… having the combatants appear on RAW only sporadically hampers the potential number of PPV buys which one would assume would lessen each man’s potential earnings.”

WWE RAW From Oklahoma: “It’s really strange as to who doesn’t contact their “old friends” when they are in one’s home market ala Monday Night Raw this past week and, conversely, who does reach out from one’s former company.”

“Yep, this rasslin thing is a whacky business. Creatively, many make it much more complicated and harder than it ever needs to be.”

Bret Hart’s Brother Talks About WWE Unifying Their World Titles & More

    5

The first son of Stu Hart and the oldest brother of Bret and Owen Hart, Smith Hart, recently commented on WWE’ Unifying the WWE Championship & the World Heavyweight championship:

“The problem is not with the unification itself, but rather the circumstances which surround it. First and foremost, a match of this calibre is something that should be built to over a period of time. “Hot-shotting” it to the next PPV with less than 3 weeks notice is such a waste of a golden opportunity. Second, the wrong talent are fighting for the opportunity.

Both Cena and Orton are fabulous superstars but both have reached their respective pinnacles. Part of the success of Jericho’s unification was the creation of a new top star, whom to this day lays claim to having beat both Steve Austin and The Rock in the same night to win the undisputed championship.”
