RAW Viewership Takes A Major Fall: Worst Non-Holiday Show In 14 Months

62

Viewership data is in for Monday’s episode of WWE RAW – and it’s bad news all around. RAW’s average audience was 3,541,000 – down almost half a million viewers from the previous week. (Update: RAW drew a 2.65 rating, which ties the lowest rating of the year).

By comparison, the NFL’s Monday Night Football game on ESPN between the New Orleans Saints and the Seattle Seahawks did approximately 15.5 million viewers.

For the second consecutive week, RAW lost viewership every hour throughout the show. Here are the hourly numbers:

  • Hour 1: 3,616,000
  • Hour 2: 3,560,000
  • Hour 3: 3,447,000

The most-watched hour of this week’s show had fewer viewers than the least-watched hour of last week. That means RAW has lost viewers during each of the past 6 hours it was on the air. Here’s a chart of the past 2 weeks of RAW hourly viewership:

ratings-tumble

To find an episode of RAW that did such a low number, you have to go back to Christmas Eve 2012. Excluding holiday editions of RAW, this was the worst viewership since October 1, 2012.

Comment Below and tell us what YOU think is the reason behind this ugly trend.

Update On The Original Sin Cara Leaving WWE & The Character’s Future

76

On Monday’s RAW, WWE superstar Hunico wrestled as Sin Cara, while the original Sin Cara (Luis Ignascio Urive Alvirde) was in Mexico. According to a report by PWInsider, Alvirde was informed on Monday that he won’t be brought back to television.

Hunico will be working as Sin Cara in the coming weeks – but there’s also talk of WWE bringing somebody up from NXT to play the character.

VIDEO of HUNICO Wrestling As SIN CARA On RAW

Despite the fact that Alvirde is getting the blame for why “Sin Cara” has been a flop so far, WWE still sells a ton of Sin Cara merchandise and they are hopeful that recasting the role will give it a better chance of succeeding.

Chris Hero Talks About His WWE Release, Returning To The Indies & More

6

Chris Hero (former WWE NXT star Kassius Ohno) spoke to the Masked Man of Grantland.com this week  about his WWE release, the Performance Center, returning to the indies and more. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The pressure of going back to the indies: “I’m the prettiest girl at the dance for the moment. I know it’s not going to last forever. I have to be on my toes. One very real thing is people asking, “Does he still have it in him? Can he bring to the table what he brought to the table years ago?” It’s inspiring for me. I want to show people that I have as much to offer as anyone in the history of wrestling. That sounds a little grandiose, but I feel like I have something different.”

Whether WWE prefers homegrown talent to hiring wrestlers with indie buzz: “I don’t think they give a shit about buzz. They only care about their own buzz, which makes sense. You can’t solely cater to the niche fan base — it’s a tricky demographic to deal with. But you can see somebody get over with those fans and think maybe they can do it in WWE, too. And they see someone who has the passion to chase the dream, traveling around the world. If you have passion, if you’re a good performer, those are two of the most important things in wrestling, and they’re things you can’t manufacture. Some people are naturals. Take Big E Langston; he has such a perfect match of athleticism and charisma, and he looks like an action figure.”

Being released by WWE: “I’d been employed for 21 months. They knew what I was. They had a certain perception of what I brought to the table, and I guess they thought I wasn’t going to be called up anytime soon. They had a pecking order, and certain guys who were going to be the next ones called up, and I wasn’t in that group. It was a little vague, but I was told, “This isn’t good-bye forever; this is good-bye for now.””

“Getting fired sucks for anybody, even if it’s a job you hate. So the gut instinct is to be mad, but none of that will serve me. None of that will put any money in my bank account. It’s not hard to be positive because I do what I love. When I was 8 or 9 years old my mom would take me to Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio, to see Ultimate Warrior versus Andre the Giant or to watch Demolition versus the Rockers or to see the very first Survivor Series in Richfield. It would be completely different if I landed on my head and got injured so I couldn’t wrestle anymore — that would be hard to deal with. But what was taken from me? A weekly paycheck?”

His fellow developmental wrestlers: “The guys in NXT now — Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville, Tyler Breeze, Scott Dawson — when they get called up, they could set the world on fire just like Daniel Bryan did. But Bryan did more than that — he set the locker room on fire. He was in the ring in the main event every week with so much intensity that everybody else realized they had to step things up. Randy Orton, for instance. He looks like he’s wrestling with a new inspiration, and he doesn’t need to do that.”

DDP Talks About Jake & Hall In The Royal Rumble, WWE Stars Using DDP Yoga & More

5

Diamond Dallas Page recently spoke with Steve and The Scum of WGD Weekly, which is available on YouTube and iTunes. Here are highlights from the interview where DDP talks about the WWE Performance Center, working with NXT talents and lots more:

Jake Roberts or Scott hall being in the 2014 Royal Rumble: “I have no idea, and I know better than to have an idea. I can hope, like any other fan out there. I would love to see them do something that would pop the crowd like crazy, but you know, you never know”

Whether Roberts or Hall would be physically ready to compete in the Rumble: “I don’t know about Scott. I don’t know that you’ll ever see Scott back in the ring. He’s smarter than the average bear when it comes to that…He is getting his body back…Scott has taken a shit load of bumps, he has been blessed with a new hip and no pain and that hip was like torture…so I don’t know if he is gonna risk that…Jake, on the other hand, Jake could go in the Royal Rumble and go 20 minutes. He would probably be crippled afterward, but he’ll do it. You have to remember what animal you’re talking about here…He is 58, I’m 57, I wouldn’t do what he does”

Current stars Chris Jericho, Ryback, and Dustin Rhodes using DDP Yoga: “When you get to Jericho, you get to be 40 and think you’re career is over like I did. All of a sudden, you find DDP Yoga and he’s addicted to it, it’s the only workout he does. All of a sudden he is back to making a million dollars a year in the ring and kicking ass with his band on the road, he couldn’t do either before DDP Yoga and he’ll be the first to tell you. Ryback, same thing, he rehabbed his body with DDP Yoga, and still does it religiously, Dustin Rhodes does it religiously””

Meeting Jake Roberts and how Jake helped his career: “I met Jake Roberts in 1986. He came into my nightclub in 1986 and I was a big fan of his…When I got into wrestling, I didn’t see him for a while…I had been down at the Power Plant for about two to three months and Jake Roberts had just signed with WCW…He saw me and we started talking…we just bonded. I got to do some road shows with him, be his driver, and learn from him. Then, I tor my rotator cuff…and they fired me. I hadn’t seen Jake in about five months…he called me up to see how I was doing. He let me know that he and his wife were split up again, so I asked my wife if he could move in, so, that was the first time Jake lived with me, that was in 1993, about 20 years ago…I was so excited to get the arm band off my rotator cuff so Jake could get in the ring with me and teach me. His feelings were that, you are gonna learn more from me sitting on the couch going over your matches than you ever will from going in the ring…you just need to learn when, why, and how to get the people involved. Over the next few years, I’d bring my matches to him and he’d critique them for me and he was a big part…I always say without Dusty Rhodes, there is no “Diamond” Dallas Page, but without Jake Roberts, there is no DDP, the main eventer…He helped me out a lot…I made a lot of money because of what he taught me. I got to live the dream on a whole different level.”

Creating what would become the Razor Ramon gimmick for Scott Hall: “I created that whole gimmick. The black hair, the brushed back cut, five o’clock shadow, all mine, and he’ll be the first to tell you…took him from a blond, brownish hair with a big mustache and turned him into what would become best known as Razor Ramon, but it was the Diamond Studd before it was Razor Ramon.”

The Rock Talks About Paul Walker’s Death, Production On “Fast & Furious 7” Shut Down

13

Following the tragic death of actor Paul Walker over the weekend, production has been shut down on The Rock’s new film “Fast & Furious 7.” After rushing to get the movie completed in time for a July 2014 release, producers are now considering scrapping the entire film and starting over. Fast & Furious 7, which has a $200 million budget, was more than halfway finished at the time of Walker’s death.

During an interview with Entertainment weekly, The Rock said:

“He was motivated by work that allowed him to take care of his family, number one, and that also allowed him the power and the leverage to help people in need and in crisis. The most important thing that we had in common was the importance of family time and being a great father to our daughters. We bonded over that. It was always the number one topic we would talk about. We would talk about silly guy things, his fast cars and my pickup trucks, or we would talk about the beautiful energy of Hawaii — but it always ultimately came back to family. And very specifically, the beautiful and important bond between a father and his daughter, and how we both realized that over the years.”

He praised Walker’s professionalism, calling the actor “a very calming presence on set.”

The Rock also tweeted on Wednesday morning:

CM Punk Injury Update, Rey Mysterio Back On The Road, After SmackDown

Jim Ross Blog: WWE Title Unification, Getting Ribbed On RAW, Barrett, Clay

13

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

John Cena & Randy Orton’s Brawl On RAW: “The end of show brawl featuring John Cena and Randy Orton helped the broadcast and added much needed sizzle on the TLC PPV where WWE will unify the WWE and World Titles. By the time one gets to the end of the 3rd hour of RAW, an argument can be made that most fans have heard enough talking. So if RAW closes with verbiage it must be strong talk but adding the brawl was timely.

WWE Title Unification: “Speaking of Cena vs. Orton at TLC to unify the two primary titles, I think that they will have a helluva match because they have legit chemistry and will likely have 30+ minutes to tell a compelling story. I also get the sense they both realize that their main event at TLC in the great city of Houston can’t be just another PPV closing main event. My expectations for this match are extraordinarily high.”

Brodus Clay Turning Heel: “Looks like Brodus Clay is becoming a villain. I’m all for that. Always talked to him at NXT about my experiences with a young, One Man Gang who was a tremendous villain for Cowboy Bill Watts Mid South Wrestling. Watch Gang on the Legends of Mid South DVD. Different dude that many remember seeing in WWE.”

Bad News Barrett: “Not sure what’s up with Wade Barrett but I’m willing to give his new persona a chance. I like Barrett and think that he can be a player. Would love to see him aligned with William Regal which would help Barrett on many fronts.”

Getting Ribbed On RAW: “Yes, I got the inside joke on me regarding famous, Oklahoma wrestling announcers when JBL and Cole mentioned the late Reasor Bowden and the late Boyd Pierce. Reasor was the Mid South ring announcer and was from Shreveport and worked at KTBS channel 3 while Boyd was a ring announcer and broadcaster who lived in Burleson, Texas.Oh, that witty, announcer repartee.”

Former WWE Diva and TNA Knockout Mickie James recently posted a blog on her official Facebook account celebrating her 15-year anniversary as a pro wrestler. Mickie posted the following:

“I just realized November is over… So I feel the need to reminisce… The 1st time I ever stepped into a ring was Nov 98′! In Manassas VA at a little school called KYDAPro. My 1st day of training I was learning the basics in a boxing ring that felt like cement. In the back of a martial arts center I fell in love with this crazy business & 15yrs later I couldn’t be any more in love. Through it all… The ups & downs & all arounds… The journey has molded me into who I am today! Not just in that squared circle but in life. I was born a fighter… It’s all I know… It’s all I’ll ever be! I want to thank all of you for being on this crazy road with me and supporting me in everything I do. Both in the ring and rocking the stage the last few years. I couldn’t be where I am and who I am without you alls loving support! I can’t truly express my gratitude for it. I just do my very best every time I’m in that beautiful spotlight. I thank you for giving me the chance to do that. Love ya Gang!”
