Backstage SummerSlam News, Linda’s Campaign, Cade

0

— There is not much happening backstage in LA for SummerSlam. The Undertaker is expected to play a role in the finish of Rey-Kane, and the story for the 7-on-7 match is being kept under wraps. It’s not likely that another match will be added as the tag match will have a minimum of 7 falls and likely will have 11 or more, meaning it will need over half an hour.

— During SummerSlam Axxess this weekend, Cody Rhodes beat Chavo Guerrero and The Hart Dynasty beat Luke Gallows & Joey Mercury. The autograph lines for Randy Orton was said to be three hours long.

The New York Post has an article on Linda McMahon today, with quotes from both Michael Benoit and Chris Nowinski. The story also says that McMahon and her opponent Richard Blumenthal have agreed to have three debates.

— Another story on Linda McMahon, which paints her in a positive light, is available at http://www.boston.com/

— At the All-Japan show today at Korauken Hall in Tokyo a ceremony was held in honor of Lance Cade. He was scheduled to work the show.

Major Heel Turn Discussed & Undertaker’s Returnton

24

– There’s been talk of a major heel turn taking place at tonight’s SummerSlam pay-per-view and the WWE superstar moving to the “dark side” may surprise you. According to sources who have been a part of recent WWE creative meetings, the idea has been brought up several times of John Cena turning heel on Team RAW during the main event.  Cena turning heel is far from confirmed, but its one of 3 possible scenarios being discussed for the finish of the main event. Cena turning heel has been brought up in the past, but it has not gotten this much consideration in quite some time.

– Several ideas are being talked about for the Kane vs. Rey Mysterio match at SummerSlam. We’ve reported here for weeks that WWE plans to have  The Undertaker appear on the show in some capacity. One idea under discussion was for a casket to be brought to ringside and at the end of the match when either Kane or Rey was about to be thrown in, Undertaker would come out and attack Kane to kick off their feud. There are plans for The Undertaker and Kane to wrestle at Night of Champions in September and then again at Hell in a Cell in October.

— Sheamus appeared on “The Big App Show” Friday to promote SummerSlam as well as WWE’s iPhone application. Sheamus bragged about being a two-time WWE Champion within the past year and referred to the title as his “pride and joy.” He said there will be a double Raw television taping on Monday in Los Angeles and plugged the company’s upcoming tour of Japan and China.

When asked to comment on his opponent at SummerSlam, Randy Orton, Sheamus replied, “Fella doesn’t stand a chance. Look at the difference between me and him. Yeah, he’s the Viper, he’s deadly, but he ain’t no Celtic Warrior.”

More Notes On Former WWE Star Lance Cade’s Death

World Wrestling Entertainment confirmed Friday the death of former performer Lance McNaught (a/k/a Lance Cade). His father, Harley McNaught, told WWE officials that his son — who had spoken publicly about his battles with pain killers and sleeping pills addictions — died of apparent heart failure.

He was 29 years old.

Regarding details of McNaught’s passing, his wife Tanya noticed earlier in the week that he didn’t look healthy and appeared to have trouble breathing. She called an ambulance Tuesday night and he was rushed to an area hospital.

McNaught passed out while at the hospital, but was later revived. He asked to be released Wednesday.

McNaught’s father said Lance showed up to his work Thursday and did not appear well. Harley took him to his San Antonio home and was discovered having passed away Friday morning. He was scheduled to leave that day for a two-week tour of All Japan Pro Wrestling.

McNaught’s wife believes he had not been drinking.

McNaught was under contract to WWE from March 2003 to October 2008. He returned to the organization’s developmental promotion, Florida Championship Wrestling, in September 2009, and was released in April 2010 following a stint in rehab.

McNaught leaves behind two daughters and a stepson.

Big Update On Tiffany’s Arrest & WWE Suspension

5

Multiple sources confirm WWE suspended Diva performer Taryn Terrell (a/k/a Tiffany) indefinitely after being arrested Sunday morning following a domestic disturbance with husband Drew Galloway (Drew McIntyre).

The couple attended a party together in Los Angeles Saturday night and went to their hotel room. A domestic disturbance between the married couple led to both hotel security and police being summoned. Terrell was arrested and booked into the Van Nuys Valley Jail at 10:26 a.m. She was released on $20,000 bail at 4:55 p.m.

Terrell is scheduled for a hearing on Sept. 2 at the Los Angeles Municipal Court, Division 141. She was immediately sent home once WWE officials were made aware of the situation. Her lawyers believe she will be cleared of all charges. The suspension is expected to remain in place until she is officially cleared.

Earlier reports that the incident took place on Tuesday at a San Jose hotel are incorrect.

It’s been speculated amongst WWE performers that Terrell may be released by organization officials as she was in Los Angeles representing the company to promote SummerSlam. WWE has let talent go in the past as a result of incidents at hotels.

Tiffany Arrested After Domestic Disturbance With Drew McIntyre

13

World Wrestling Entertainment has suspended Taryn Terrell (a/k/a Tiffany) following an incident earlier this week at the San Jose, CA hotel performers were staying at.

Company sources claim the incident was a domestic issue between Terrell and husband Drew Galloway (a/k/a Drew McIntyre), which led to police being called to the scene. There are conflicting reports over whether Terrell was arrested by the San Jose PD.

Terrell, who was scheduled to wrestle at Sunday’s SummerSlam pay-per-view, was sent home by management following the incident. WWE has not publicly acknowledged her suspension or any possible change to the event.

Details On Why RVD Is Taking Time Off From TNA

10

As we saw on Thursday’s “Whole F’N Show” iMPACT! special, TNA Champion Rob Van Dam was brutally attacked by Abyss and left bloody backstage. Without spoiling too much for next week’s iMPACT!, we can confirm that Rob Van Dam will be taking some time off in the near future.

Read More: *Spoiler* Major Angle Involving RVD’s TNA World Title

The main reason for Rob Van Dam taking time off is his TNA contract. Van Dam signed a deal with TNA for a specific number of dates per year – and TNA has been burning through those dates much faster than they originally planned. TNA has booked Van Dam for most television, pay-per-views and live events and are running low on the number of available dates.

TNA has run into similar issues in the past with stars like Ric Flair, Sting and Mick Foley in the past.

It’s possible that TNA could renegotiate the terms of Van Dam’s contract in order to get him back on television sooner, but for now, he’ll be taking some time off in order to conserve what’s left of his remaining appearances.

WWE Signs College Football Star Andrew Leavine

16
WWE Developmental Signee Andrew Leavine

Tampa Bay Online reports that WWE has signed Andrew Leavine to a developmental deal and he will report to FCW next month.

Leavine is 6-foot-5 292 pounder that spent the past four years playing football on the offensive line at Florida International University. After graduating with a degree in Parks and Recreation, Leavine was briefly signed to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins with a few other undrafted rookies.

Leavine wrestled in high school and finished his senior year with a record of 33-4 with23 pins. While at FIU, he trained some in jiu-jitsu and other forms of MMA. He had the following to say about those skills and stepping into the world of pro wrestling:

“It helps tremendously. But at the same time, I’m walking into a whole different animal here. It’s going to be a process of watching film, watching guys in front of me, like Husky Harris. It helps to watch those guys and see what I have to do to get to the next level.”

Bischoff Says He & Hogan Have 2-Year Deals With TNA

2

Following yesterday’s Hogan-Bischoff-Twitter debacle where a Hogan impostor claimed he and Bischoff were leaving TNA, Eric Bischoff (the real one) is setting the record straight. In comments made exclusively to Slam.Canoe.Ca, Bischoff confirmed that he and Hulk Hogan are still with TNA and will be until 2012.

“ I am with TNA,” Bischoff said. “Hulk Hogan is still with TNA. We have a contract for two years, and we plan on fulfilling our contract.”

After Twitter user realhulk_hogan admitted to not being the real Hulk Hogan – the user claimed to be a disgruntled TNA employee upset with Bischoff’s performance and said TNA’s top stars were planning a walk-out if Bischoff isn’t removed from power. Bischoff, however, does not believe the fake Hogan is a TNA employee at all.

“It is probably a 16-year-old dweeb that doesn’t have anything better to do,” Bischoff said  “I am 99% sure that there is no validity behind it and the person does not work for TNA.”

The owner of the fake Hogan account, who has over 4,000 followers, now claims to be Christopher Daniels and is urging people to “Unfollow @TNADixie if you don’t agree with the current direction in TNA.”

Lashley Talks About Fighting Batista, His Next Fight & More

9

Former two-time ECW Champion, former WWE United States Champion, former TNA superstar, & current Strikeforce fighter, Bobby Lashley, was the special guest on this week’s live edition (08/09/10) of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem. Bobby joined The Big Mosh, Jimmy Noonan, & “The Chairman of the Board” Todd Vincent for his debut on “Your Home of Wrestling Radio” (to preview next Saturday night’s “Strikeforce: Houston” event on Showtime).

Click Here to listen to an MP3 of Bobby Lashley’s appearance on Monday Night Mayhem.

Interview highlights courtesy of The Mayhem’s official correspondent, Paterson from New Jersey:

Why we may see Lashley vs. Dave Bautista in Strikeforce sooner vs. later (potentially as early as this fall): “I have a lot of respect for Dave, I like Dave. For me, what I’m trying to do in my career is trying to build and build up into bigger & better competition. As far as fighting Dave after this fight, I’ll do the fight right away. If he’s serious about doing this, then let’s do it. I think they might have a show in October or November sometime around there; if he wants to do it, let’s do it then. I’m not really willing to wait ’till next year or anytime after that; I’m moving forward in my career. After this fight, I’m looking at the Arlovski’s, the Fedor’s, the Brett Rogers’. That’s who I set my targets on, so when you talk about that Dave, that fight needs to be done right away, so I could keep moving forward.”

How he was “torn” between leaving TNA Wrestling & transitioning into a full-time MMA career with Strikeforce: “At first when I wanted to do it, I talked to all the higher-ups in TNA, and we tried to put together a plan where I could still wrestle, because when you’re a wrestler, it’s in your blood. So I wanted to wrestle, but I also wanted to fight, and I was torn between the two, and with the TNA schedule, I could do both. We had a couple of things that weren’t going together right, and like I said before, I’m trying to build up my competition, and I’m trying to get tougher & tougher opponents as I go, so at one point in time I had to make a decision on which one I was gonna do. I was either gonna be a full-time wrestler, or I was going to fight full-time. That window of fighting is only open for a short amount of time, because it requires so much dedication, training, sparring, & everything else, so I had to step away from TNA and just focus on training.”

Why it wouldn’t make sense for Bautista to fight anyone else but him for his first MMA fight & who he thinks has the potential to put together a “dream fight” between himself and Brock Lesnar: “I’m gonna say the fight that you want me to say first. I wanna have that fight with Batitsta. Nothing against him or anything, but I think for him to take any other fight would be a waste of his time. If he really wants to get into fighting, I think it wouldn’t make any sense for him to get in there and fight anyone else. I don’t think it would make any sense. As far as other fights, I would love to fight Fedor before he retires. I think he is pound for pound the best fighter in the world. I think another fight would be Brock. I’ve been asked that every single day by someone. ‘When are you gonna fight Brock? When you gonna take down Brock?’ I would love to see that fight with Brock happen. If Dana White won’t let it happen, or Scott Coker won’t let it happen, maybe Vince would let it happen…”

What professional wrestling & MMA fans can expect in his August 21st fight against Chad Griggs at “Strikeforce: Houston” on Showtime: “There are a lot of good fights on that card, and unless you’re real hardcore MMA fans, you may not know some of the guys, but if you go check them out, there are some great fighters. My fight: You’re gonna see a side of me that you saw in wrestler, but now you’re going to see it in the cage, and I’m going after this guy, and I’m going to suck the life out of this guy and pound him.”

More is contained in this exclusive interview with Lashley, including his candid thoughts/comments on which promotion he feels has grown the most since his respective departures from WWE & TNA, which of his former colleagues in professional wrestling he pays the most attention to/follows today, along with a sneak preview of the forthcoming “EA Sports MMA” video game (being released this fall). While gearing up for “Strikeforce: Houston” & Bobby’s return into the octagon, be sure to check Lashley’s network online: his official website (located at www.FightBobby.com), his official Facebook page (located at www.Facebook.com/FightBobby), his official Twitter page (located at www.Twitter.com/FightBobby), plus the official website of Bobby’s gym: the American Team Altitude (located at: www.ATTAltitude.com).
