Jim Ross Recovering From Back Surgery, Expected To Work 11/24 Dynamite (Report)

0

AEW play-by-play ace Jim Ross is said to have undergone back surgery.

JR has a lot to deal with these days. He was recently diagnosed with skin cancer. He will be undergoing radiation treatment soon. Ross has made it clear that he doesn’t want to miss any time.

Jim Ross Goes Under The Knife

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reports Jim Ross has undergone back surgery. The good news is that Ross has reacted well to the procedure and plans on calling the action on the Nov. 24 episode of Dynamite.

Earlier this month, JR revealed that he has to go through 22 radiation treatments during an episode of his Grilling JR podcast (h/t WrestlingNews.co).

“I’m pretty good. I have this little cancer issue I’m trying to deal with. I’m going to start doing radiation soon. I have to do 22 radiation treatments.  Somehow I have to figure out how to do it on consecutive days. They would like to do it every day for I think 3 weeks, or whatever it is, maybe longer than that. I haven’t kept track. It’s inevitable. It’s coming. I have to deal with it. I haven’t found myself buried in the minutia of whether this is happening or that is happening.”

Ross noted that since he won’t need chemotherapy, he doesn’t expect to miss time. With that said, JR did admit that keeping up with all of his radiation treatments will be a challenge.

SEScoops wishes JR the very best in his recovery.

Pay Close Attention To This On Tonight’s NXT 2.0

0

The road to War Games continues tonight on NXT 2.0. It’s sure to be an eventful broadcast, with three of the brand’s top champions in action. However, fans should pay close attention to the North American Championship match.

North American champion Carmelo Hayes will put his gold on the line against Johnny Gargano and Pete Dunne. The finish of this triple threat match could say a lot about Gargano’s future with WWE.

Johnny Wrestling’s WWE contract is set to expire in just a matter of weeks. The expiration date is believed to be December 3rd. He recently removed all NXT references from his Twitter account. This fueled speculation that Gargano will test his value on the free agency market.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated that WWE has “made a very strong offer” to keep Gargano with the company for “a very long time.”

Tonight’s triple threat match will speak volumes about his standing with the company. If Gargano wins the title, that would be a strong indication he has re-signed.

If Carmelo Hayes retains, or if Pete Dunne walks away as champion, it’s safe to say Gargano’s long-term future with WWE remains questionable at best.

Bray Wyatt’s first wrestling-related appearance since being released from WWE this summer has been announced.

Wyatt will be part of WrestleCon 2022 in Dallas, TX, which takes place during WrestleMania weekend at the Fairmont hotel from March 30th to April 5th, 2022.

WrestleCon broke the news on social media this week:

In an interview with Metro UK, Special makeup effects artist Jason Baker revealed that Wyatt will be taking part in the filming of a horror movie this month in Tennessee.

“He’s a phenomenal collaborator, he’s become a really good friend, and we’re actually – you’re the first person that we’re publicly telling about. We’re starting a film at the end of the month,” Baker said.

“It’s a feature film and it’s something really new and different,” Baker continued. “I’d say probably the best way to describe it is Ichi the Killer meets Xanadu.”

Bray Wyatt Responds To Matt Hardy

Yesterday, Wyatt responded to a Tweet from his former tag-partner Matt Hardy. Hardy noted that it was 27 years ago since he faced Wyatt’s father, Mike Rotunda (AKA I.R.S).

Xavier Woods Knows How He’ll React If WWE Releases Him

0

With WWE releasing people like Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt, it appears no one is safe in the roster. Though Xavier Woods doesn’t seem too worried about getting axed.

The 2021 King Of The Ring winner recently had an interview with SportsKeeda. He was asked how he would react if he was released from the promotion.

Replying to it, Woods mentioned how he has been able to achieve a lot of things in WWE. He explained that he wouldn’t be mad if the officials decide to let him go after the King Of The Ring win.

“So, as far as wrestling with New Day, we’ve been able to accomplish so many things as a tag team, and that’s been my focus as a kid. I love tag team wrestling, and I love King of the Ring. So, as far as wrestling goals, now I’m on bonus time.”

Deuces, it has been a fun ride!

Xavier Woods already knows how he would react if WWE fired him.

“If they would have been like, ‘Hey, you won King of the Ring,’ and they came back and hit me with the ‘You’re fired,’ I would have been like, ‘Okay, deuces, it has been a fun ride.”

The New Day star also talked about his singles run. He claimed that he is getting to do his best to create things every week in his solo run.

Woods explained that his goal is to attempt to bring something different to the table for fans every time they see him. We will see if the people like it.

What Happened With SmackDown Stars After Raw Went Off Air

0

The ending of this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw saw Big E standing tall in the ring after scoring a victory over Austin Theory in the main event of the show.

Though this wasn’t the end of the night for fans in attendance. People who were in the arena got to see a pretty unusual dark main event after the cameras stopped rolling.

After the Raw episode from Brooklyn, NY, went off air, Kevin Owens returned to attack the WWE champion. Austin Theory and Seth Rollins joined in on the attack before a number of other heels also came out.

Drew McIntyre led a group of babyfaces to make the save for the New Day star. This set up the stage for a 7 vs. 7 tag team match. People from Raw and SmackDown rosters were called in as lumberjacks for the bout.

After a good back and forth between the heel and face teams, the babyfaces won the match. They all got in the ring to celebrate afterward.

Randy Orton brought in his daughter Brooklyn to the ring and revealed that it was her fifth birthday. He asked the crowd to sing a birthday song and people obliged. The night then ended with the stars greeting each other and the crowd.

WWE Releases Statement On Seth Rollins’ Attacker

0

WWE has released an official statement on the fan who jumped Seth Rollins during this Monday’s episode of Raw from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

The company released the statement to media outlets when reached out about the incident. They revealed that the attacker has been turned over to NYPD:

“WWE takes the safety of its performers very seriously. The individual who attacked Seth Rollins has been turned over to the NYPD and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The Architect was supposed to have a match with Finn Balor on tonight’s episode of the show. Though he attacked Balor before the bout could begin.

As Rollins was heading to the ramp after the segment, a fan jumped the barricades and attacked the former Universal champion before the security took him down.

The former Shield member seemed to be fine when he reappeared on the show during the main event WWE championship match between Big E and Austin Theory.

Rollins, who is expected to challenge for the WWE title next, interfered in the bout. Though he wasn’t successful in his attempt to cost Big E the title. Seth Rollins ended up taking a big ending from E after the match was over.

Austin Theory Revealed As The Thief Of Vince McMahon’s Golden Egg

0

It was Austin all along.

The storyline involving Cleopatra’s golden egg worth $100 million advanced on this week’s Raw as Vince McMahon continued looking for the culprit who stole the artifact.

The opening segment of the night saw McMahon threatening to fire Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville if the egg is not found. He also announced that the person to bring him the culprit will get a shot at Big E’s WWE championship.

After several segments of people looking for the egg backstage, Sami Zayn got into Vince McMahon’s office and claimed to know the person who stole the egg.

In a later segment, Zayn called in Austin Theory to the office and Theory walked in with the golden egg. When asked why he did it, Austin said that he just wanted to take a selfie with the egg.

Vince McMahon said that he will drop the charges on the high-flying star. He said that Austin reminds him of himself and that he will now get the announced title shot in the main event of the show.

Sami Zayn protested this call. He ranted about how Vince went back on his word but the boss told Sami to shut up because no one likes a snitch.

The main event saw both Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens coming down to the ringside to watch the WWE championship match between Theory and E.

Rollins interfered in the bout at one point and attacked the injured knee of the WWE champion when the referee was distracted.

However, Owens then got involved as well and he threw the architect in the ring. Rollins confronted Kevin outside and Theory got distracted by this.

The distraction allowed Big E to regain control of the match. He delivered a big ending to Austin Theory to pin him and retain his title.

After the match, he attacked both Rollins and Owens. Rollins ended up getting the big ending too while Kevin Owens retreated. The show ended with Big E standing tall in the ring and Owens ranting on the stage.

Watch: Seth Rollins Attacked By Fan On WWE Raw

0

A crazed fan jump the barricade and attacked Seth Rollins at Monday’s episode of WWE Raw at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

At the top of the second hour, Rollins was cutting a promo in the ring about being the sole survivor for Team Raw in the men’s elimination tag team match at the Survivor Series pay-per-view.

Finn Balor came out to interrupt Rollins, who proceeded to beat him down. When Rollins was making his way up the entranceway, a fan attacked him and the camera quickly cut away.

Fans in attendance noted on social media that security quickly jumped into action and Michael Hayes was seen on the stage. The announcers avoided talking about the fan.

Eventually, Rollins got up and was rightfully talking some trash to the fan, who was taken away right before the camera was back on Rollins, who had a bloody mouth as a result of the attack.

The fan will likely be banned from attending future WWE events because of his actions. Fans should never jump the rail and try to attack a wrestler who in the case of Rollins, was simply doing his job by being a heel on television.

Bully Ray Scoffs At WWE’s Idea Of Heel Becky Lynch

0

Bully Ray doesn’t want WWE to continue to present Becky Lynch as a heel after Survivor Series.

This past Sunday (Nov. 21), Lynch shared the ring with her former close friend Charlotte. The two had a match that was highly praised and Becky ended up picking up the win.

Bully Ray Thinks WWE Is Force-Feeding Heel Becky Lynch

On the latest episode of Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray said WWE should just let Becky Lynch continue to be embraced by the fans.

“Now we have Becky, who the people are behind. She looks great, she wrestles great, she does everything that I like. When she talks I’m into her.

“Why do I hate you, Becky? For what reason? You want me to hate you because you’re force-feeding a couple lines down fans’ throat that creative told you to say that absolutely, positively suck?

“No, I don’t hate you. I don’t agree with the force-feeding.

“Last night, after her performance with Charlotte, what’s she gonna do? Come out tonight and say, ‘I didn’t need you fans behind me. I knew I could do it all on my own.’ Ugh, kill me now.”

Emotional Post-Match Interview

Following her Survivor Series clash with Charlotte, Becky had an emotional post-match interview. Bully Ray feels fans are totally behind Becky, especially after that interview.

“When Becky starts to cry last night, when you see them overwhelmed with emotion, if you see somebody cry you feel for them.

“So, when I’m watching her get all welled up in emotion talking about her friendship with Charlotte and how now it’s come to an end, you know that it actually, truly, genuinely bothers her.

“She’s crying and in that moment in time you’re like, ‘Man, I really feel bad for this girl.’

“So, you want me to feel bad for her based on real emotion post-match but tonight you’re gonna write a bunch of gibberish on a piece of paper that makes me go, ‘Oh my god I hate Becky.’

“No, there’s no reason to hate Becky and I don’t wanna hate Becky just because you’re hoping and praying that I love Liv Morgan.”

At Survivor Series, WWE ran an angle where a special golden egg was stolen. In storyline, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has ordered roster members of both brands to attend the Nov. 22 episode of Raw.

Whether or not we’ll be able to see a bit more of the rivalry between Becky and Charlotte on this episode remains to be seen.

Sasha Banks says WWE trained her to work like a Diva, not a Wrestler

0

Sasha Banks has recalled the time when she was told not to train like male superstars.

WWE has come a long way when it comes to how female talent is utilized. The company went from the “sex sells” mentality to putting women on an even playing field.

Female stars such as Banks, Becky Lynch, Charlotte, and Bianca Belair have proven to shine bright on the biggest stage.

The change hadn’t occurred during Sasha’s time in developmental, however.

Sasha Banks Reflects On WWE Developmental

Sasha Banks spoke to Kurt Angle on his podcast and admitted she pretty much had the handcuffs on while training in developmental due to the Divas era.

“It was really tough. Still, back then they didn’t want us to train like the men. We were told to train like Divas and we didn’t have any explanation to what that meant.

“They just came out and said, ‘Hey, no striking, no doing this no doing that.’ We’re like, ‘Okay, but we wanna wrestle. We wanna do it.’

“But training was every single day plus live events plus setting up the ring plus going to different towns and putting posters up so people could attend the shows.

“It was every single day sacrifice. I think maybe only Sunday I had off and that wasn’t even an off day cause you just had to recover mentally for what the next day was gonna bring.”

You can listen to Sasha Banks’ interview on the Kurt Angle Show here:

Banks has become one of WWE’s top stars regardless of gender. She has also been open about her positive relationship with Vince McMahon.

She was seen in action at the WWE Survivor Series PPV. Banks represented Team SmackDown in the traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series tag team match. Team Raw ended up getting the win.

MLW Announces “Open Door Policy” For Free Agents

0

Major League Wrestling announced today an “open door policy” for free agents. This is in response to the influx of wrestlers to the free agent market resulting from WWE’s frequent roster cuts and Ring of Honor’s announcement they will not be signing wrestlers to exclusive contracts moving forward.

MLW’s policy is being done to deliver potential dream matches.

“While the majority of MLW’s roster features contracted competitors, a percentage of each card will now feature free agents, ensuring exciting and unpredictable matchups,” reads an MLW press release.

Between the 80 wrestlers released from WWE this past year and the entire Ring of Honor roster, there is no shortage of wrestlers who could take advantage of this policy.

Reason Why The Rock Couldn’t Appear At Survivor Series

0

Survivor Series last night was the 25th Anniversary of the Rock debuting in WWE. Highlights from his career were played throughout the show. There were also mentions of his movie, Red Notice, currently streaming on Netflix. Some people expected the Rock to appear live but according to comments by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, it was not possible for him to be there.

“Dwayne’s out of the country and can’t come back. They’re doing a movie and they can’t go back and forth because of quarantine. There was no way he could be at the show tonight,” said Dave Meltzer.

“He was never advertised, they never told you, it was something that people built up in their imagination,” Meltzer continued.

“If he was advertised and wasn’t there, it’s one thing but he was absolutely not advertised, that’s the thing. There was never a chance he could be there. They never announced ‘oh, he’s in Europe, he can’t be there’ because they never advertised him in the first place.”

While the Rock wasn’t there, Vince McMahon filmed several scenes involving a golden egg that had been given to him by the Rock. This is related to the movie Red Notice. The angle will continue on tonight’s show with wrestlers from both RAW and Smackdown booked for the show.

Update On Booking Plans For Hit Row Before Release

0

Every member of WWE’s Hit Row stable have now been released. B-Fab was released earlier this month and the remaining members were cut on Thursday. According to comments made by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE contacted them 4 times on Thursday with different booking plans and then finally with news that they were being let go.

“Thursday, they’re first told that they’re going to be on Smackdown, Survivor Series, and RAW, because obviously everyone is on RAW (for the stolen egg angle),” said Dave Meltzer. “Then they’re told they’re off all 3 shows. Then they’re called again and told they’re back on all 3 shows and then the next call they get is ‘they’re fired’. This is all on Thursday.”

Meltzer continued to say that AJ Francis (aka Top Dolla) was seen as the potential star of the group. When he began to rub people the wrong way backstage, it may have led to the entire faction being released.

“AJ Francis did rub people the wrong way,” Meltzer continued. “Which I think doomed everyone.”

“He’s the one that Vince thought was the star, the other ones just came along with the package.”

“They thought that AJ Francis was the star, because he’s the big guy and big personality,” Meltzer continued.

Lots of Backstage News from WWE Survivor Series

0

WWE Survivor Series is in the books.

The show featured some strong in-ring action, a lot of love for The Rock and the mysterious case of Mr. McMahon’s missing Cleopatra egg. Check out our complete Survivor Series results to catch up on everything you may have missed.

Here are some backstage news items coming out of Survivor Series:

Match Order

Some major changes were made to the match card late Sunday evening. The original plans called for Roman Reigns vs. Big E to open the pay-per-view and Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair match to serve as the main event. Those matches were switched, with the women’s match opening and Reigns vs. Big E closing out the night.

This swap also resulted in other matches being shuffled, specifically the men’s and women’s 5-on-5 matches.

Timing

A lot of work goes into the pacing of WWE productions. Pay-per-views might seem like marathon viewing sessions at times, but the company typically has a hard stop-time planned out in advance.

As the night progressed, WWE officials felt things were running long and there was some concern that the main event might have to be cut short. The men’s 5-on-5 elimination match probably got more time than it needed. In the end, Survivor Series went off the air when it was intended to, so it’s possible some time was taken from the Reigns vs. Big E match.

Who produced each match?

The following people were in charge of producing the matches at Survivor Series (via PWInsider):

  • Joseph Park (Abyss) produced the Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Damian Priest match.
  • Tyson Kidd produced the Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair match
  • Shawn Daivari, Adam Pearce and Shane Helms produced the Men’s Survivor Series match
  • Shane Helms produced the The Usos vs. RK-Bro match
  • Tyson Kidd and Pat Buck produced the Women’s Survivor Series match
  • Michael Hayes produced the Roman Reigns vs. Big E. main event

TV Executives Backstage

In addition to members of WWE’s executive team (including Vince, Stephanie and Nick Khan), there were also several entertainment industry bigwigs on hand for Survivor Series.

Executives from NBCUniversal and FOX were at the show. Additionally, there were some important people from Netflix there as well. The Rock’s Netflix movie ‘Red Notice’ was a top sponsor of the show.

Crowd Fatigue

We spoke with a few people who were in the building for Survivor Series. The general feeling is that the crowd started off hot, but the commercial spots, video packages and long ring introductions negatively affected the overall pacing of the show.

How many fans were in attendance?

During the Survivor Series broadcast, Michael Cole announced there were 15,120 fans in attendance at the Barclays Center.

It’s no secret that WWE exaggerates these figures. According to Wrestletix, the venue was configured to accommodate almost 12,0000 fans. Approximately 11,200 tickets for the event, which is still a great turnout.

Watch: Becky Lynch Gets Emotional After Survivor Series

0

The long-standing history and the backstage drama that occurred beforehand made the Survivor Series clash between Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair a very emotional encounter for both the competitors.

The Raw women’s champion was interviewed backstage after her match with Flair. She was asked if this was the most emotional match of her career. She replied by saying that she doesn’t know if she is happy or sad.

“Yeah, even watching the video packages, I got a little bit emotional cause to see where we came from to where we are now,” said Lynch. “And the hatred there, the hatred going out there. It’s so sad. That’s somebody who I loved so much. Who I trusted with my life. And we’ve been through everything together.”

I’m the better woman

Lynch continued, “We nearly died in a car crash together and just how much we despise each other now. I just wanted to rip her apart out there. I wanted to rip her apart. I didn’t break her arm like I wanted to. Like I set out to do. And I don’t know if I’m happy or I’m sad about that. but I got the win. And now she knows. She can’t deny it. I’m the better woman.”

Becky Lynch picked up a victory in this encounter after stealing a trick from Charlotte’s playbook. She rolled her up for the pin using the ropes for advantage.

Vince McMahon has ordered talent from both brands to be in attendance for Monday’s Raw, so it’s possible we could see another chapter in this rivalry unfold.

Big E Reveals His Pick To Win 2022 Royal Rumble

With the Survivor Series PPV behind us, people have already started talking about Royal Rumble. Big E has revealed his pick to win the big match this time around.

The WWE champion recently appeared on Barstool Rasslin’ to talk about a number of things. He discussed topics such as the Survivor Series PPV, his match with the Universal champion Roman Reigns and more.

When asked who he would like to see winning the Royal Rumble match this year, Big E mentioned how taking the name of any of the New Day members would be a lazy answer, so he picked Cesaro:

“I feel like the lazy answer would be The New Day members, so obviously either Kofi or Woods. I’ll go with someone who’s not them. Let’s go, Cesaro should win the Rumble, man, Cesaro is so damn good in the ring. I would love to see Cesaro get hot again.

When he was with Paul Heyman, like that era, the swing era,” said Big E, “and he’s still so damn good, but people were so behind him them. He’s a guy who is deserving of that, so I would love to see him get some much-deserved momentum.”

The Raw star also discussed the New Day entrance and his roar beforehand that has become an iconic part of the group.

He claimed that his fear while doing the entrance is to get the name of the city wrong. E mentioned how R Truth once got it wrong and he was booed by the fans.

After cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Bobby Lashley this September, Big E started his WWE Title reign. On the flip side, Reigns has held the Universal Championship since August 2020.

Reigns and The Usos have been feuding with Big E’s New Day stablemates Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston on SmackDown over the past few weeks as in this year’s Draft, Big E stayed on Raw while Woods and Kingston moved to SmackDown.

Last year’s main event featured Reigns going over then-WWE Champion Drew McIntyre from the Amway Center inside the ThunderDome.

Banks got eliminated by count out. Belair rolled up Natalya for the elimination. Belair eliminated Bazler. Belair won with the kiss of death.

Five years ago, Vince McMahon decided to do the brand vs. brand theme that included women.

In 2021, Team Raw featured Shayna Baszler, Nia Jax, Peyton Royce, Lacey Evans, and Lana) while SmackDown had Bianca Belair, Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, Bayley, and Natalya. The red brand ended up coming out on top.

In 2019, WWE added NXT talent as Team NXT (Rhea Ripley, Toni Storm, Bianca Belair, Candice LeRae and Io Shirai) ended up winning by topping Team Raw (Charlotte Flair, Sarah Logan, Natalya, Asuka and Kairi Sane) and Team SmackDown (Sasha Banks, Dana Brooke, Carmella, Lacey Evans, Nikki Cross).

This year’s Survivor Series event featured a Traditional Elimination Match for the male roster between Raw and SmackDown talent as usual with some notable star power.

For the second straight year, WWE only used main roster talent. Team Raw featured Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, Bobby Lashley & Austin Theory while SmackDown had (Drew McIntyre, Jeff Hardy, Xavier Woods, Baron Corbin, and Sheamus.

The first elimination saw Owens walk out and was counted out. Balor with a coup de grace to Corbin for the elimination. Lashley eliminated Woods with a spear and a full nelson. Lashley and McIntyre were both eliminated by countout as they brawled to the floor. Sheamus with the big boot to eliminate Balor. Theory rolled up Sheamus for the elimination. Hardy eliminated Theory with a swanton bomb. After Hardy hit the twist of fate, he went for the swanton bomb, but Seth put up the knees and connected with the stomp for the win.

This was the sixth straight year that Vince McMahon had decided to do the brand vs. brand theme for one of the big four events of the year for the company.  In 2019, WWE used NXT talent across the show, but that ended in 2020.

Speaking of last year, Team Raw featured Keith Lee, AJ Styles, Sheamus, Braun Strowman, and Matt Riddle while SmackDown had Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, Seth Rollins, Baron Corbin, and Otis with the red brand going over in a clean sweep.

Becky Lynch Tops Charlotte Flair at WWE Survivor Series

WWE booked the biggest match possible with its top female talent in Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair at the Survivor Series pay-per-view event in Brooklyn, New York.

Neither title was on the line. The match opened the show and they went straight into a fight. After brawling, Flair took over and beat her down for a few minutes before Lynch rallied back. At one point, Lynch locked in the figure four leg lock. Lynch pinned Flair with Lynch holding the ropes but the ref didn’t see it.

Last year’s high profile champion vs. champion match for the women featured Raw Women’s Champion Asuka losing to SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks.

Both stars changed brands in the draft, but to resolve the situation with their titles, the company decided to have a championship exchange segment on an episode of SmackDown last month where Lynch became Raw Women’s Champion while Charlotte became SmackDown Women’s Champion.

It was reported that Lynch and Charlotte had a legitimate backstage confrontation following the awkward title exchange.

Time will tell where the company goes with these two wrestlers heading into the Day 1 pay-per-view event in January from State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
