Update On How Adam Cole’s Meeting With Vince McMahon Went (Report)

0

Recently, reports surfaced that Adam Cole’s contract with WWE had expired and he’d agreed to an extension to run through SummerSlam. Cole met with Vince McMahon at Smackdown on Friday night. How the meeting went was addressed on Wrestling Observer Radio.

“I was under the impression that they promised him a main roster spot,” said Dave Meltzer. “And they told the writers that they want storylines for Adam Cole on the main roster, on RAW or Smackdown. So, I think that was part of the meeting that happened yesterday.”

Adam Cole Is The “Exception To The Rule”

Cole’s status with WWE was determined “the exception to the rule” regarding WWE’s recent objective to focus on bigger talents.

“There’s always exceptions to the rule and Adam Cole is an exception to the rule,” Meltzer said.

“He’s an exception to the rule that they are not looking to cut a guy like that they are looking to keep a guy like that. And they are looking to feature a guy like that.”

Meltzer continued to say that he has not heard the same regarding other smaller talents on the NXT roster.

“I haven’t heard that for KUSHIDA, or Kyle O’Reilly, or Ciampa or Gargano or anyone like that,” Meltzer continued.

The 32-year-old has been with the company since 2017. His 396-day reign as NXT Champion is the longest single reign in the title’s lineage.

Update On Expected Changes To NXT (Report)

0

The look, format, and wrestlers pushed in NXT are all expected to change. The focus of the show is expected to fully move back to being a developmental brand with an objective to produce main roster talent in WWE. The expected changes to NXT were addressed recently on Wrestling Observer Radio.

“Paul Levesque and Shawn Michaels didn’t have anything to do with the cuts,” said Dave Meltzer. “It was done by Vince McMahon, Bruce Prichard, and John Laurinaitis. And the basic gist is NXT is going to change in some ways. They think that a lot of the competitors are too small and too old.”

He continued to say that the basic feeling is that NXT lost the war and now it is returning to its previous goal of developing talent for the main roster.

“This is the aftermath and this is the new direction. And the new direction is younger guys and bigger guys,” Meltzer continued.

“What happened happened and now they want to get it back to what it was.”

He would continue to say that WWE doesn’t want older or smaller wrestlers. The focus will return on developing talent that “could one day main event WrestleMania”.

“The wording is ‘no more midgets, no one starting in their 30s, they want people who can be box office attractions and main characters’ so that’s what they are looking for now,” Meltzer continued.

Daniel Bryan Compared To A Modern Day Bret Hart

0

Bret Hart is revered as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, so a comparison to the Hitman is high praise. During a recent discussion with Wrestling Inc, former WWE wrestler Tucker say Daniel Bryan is the closest thing we have to a modern day Bret Hart.

“To me, Daniel Bryan is the modern day Bret Hart,” he began.”“He’s the man. He’s the best. Whether it comes to his mind and talking through how and why we’re going to do things or whether it comes to the execution of said thing in the ring, I don’t think you or me could point out somebody or defend somebody better than him at either of those two things.”

Both Hart and Bryan are known for their technical expertise, so the similarities are there. Tucker said not only was Daniel Bryan an incredible mat technician, he was also a locker room leader. Many younger WWE Superstars would turn to Bryan for advice in and out of the ring.

Daniel Bryan & Bret Hart

Tucker and former partner Otis would consult with Daniel Bryan on ways to improve their team, Heavy Machinery.

“What a glorious opportunity it was for us to be able to pick his brain a little bit and kind of see how he moved around the Heavy Machinery pieces. ‘What do you guys do?’ Having a discussion about the ethos, if you will, of Heavy Machinery and that might be able to play off of them in the large scale, in the big picture.”

He recalls Bryan helping them review the ins and outs of their presentation. Everything was considered, from their promos to their character development

“Just kind of seeing how [Bryan] operates, seeing what questions he’s asking what people and why he’s going about doing those things, at least for me, I was trying to take away as much of that kind of stuff as I possibly could from working with someone like that.”

Daniel Bryan will be a tremendous asset wherever he winds up, whether its AEW, New Japan Pro Wrestling, back in WWE or elsewhere.

Backstage Notes on WWE Releases Becoming a ‘Regular Occurrence’ Going Forward

0

WWE made even more releases this weekend, with 12 names being cut from the roster across the NXT and 205 Live shows. The biggest names to be released were Bronson Reed, Bobby Fish and Tyler Rust; all of which seemed to be locked in with the company going forward.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, WWE making these releases of talent is going to become a ‘regular occurrence going forward. A source noted to Fightful that “Vince McMahon can personally put a stop to any of these,” when it comes to the names being cut.

WWE Releases becoming regular

The same source claimed that WWE releases are going to be a regular occurrence moving forward. However, the source also personally expects that “2021 will be an outlier with both the frequency and the level of talent.”

The idea of ‘mass releases’ hadn’t been a topic of discussion or concern in WWE for nearly four years, since the summer of 2016 and the beginning of 2020 and the pandemic.

A number of former WWE Superstars have already made the move over to AEW following their releases. Interestingly, Vince McMahon himself even joked about making more cuts to help All Elite on a recent investor’s call, saying that he didn’t understand their investment structure.

Here is the full list of talent that was released from their WWE contracts on Friday:

  • Bronson Reed
  • Bobby Fish
  • Mercedes Martinez
  • Leon Ruff
  • Tyler Rust
  • Jake Atlas
  • Ari Sterling
  • Kona Reeves
  • Zechariah Smith
  • Asher Hale
  • Giant Zanjeer
  • Stephon Smith

Major Changes To NXT Expected (Report)

0

Last night during WWE’s broadcast of Smackdown, it was reported that several members of the NXT roster have been released. According to a report from PW Insider, sweeping changes are expected to take place for the brand as well.

Among the changes expected to take place are a new logo, lighting, and a different look and feel. Additionally, it is being reported that the show will undergo some type of format change. An increased focus on younger and developing talents is also expected to be part of the changes.

The changes expected to occur further the debate as to if NXT is a developmental territory or a 3rd media rights brand.

Moving NXT to the USA Network on Wednesday nights did not derail AEW Dynamite as may have been the goal.

Is NXT WWE’s Developmental Brand (Again)?

In its quarterly filings recently, WWE has returned to referring to NXT as a “developmental” brand.

“Metrics exclude the events for our domestic and United Kingdom NXT brands. These are our developmental brands that typically conduct their events in smaller venues with lower ticket prices. We did not conduct any ticketed NXT events in the periods presented,” reads page 33 of WWE’s report.

In an interview with Newsweek when NXT moved to the USA Network, Adam Cole stated that NXT is no longer a developmental brand.

“We’ve called it this for a while, but we look at NXT as the third brand. And now I feel this move to USA just solidifies it. Instead of calling it “moved up” it’ll just be “moving.” Some guys may move to RAW or SmackDown. Some guys on RAW or SmackDown can move to NXT. To me, this move to the USA totally solidifies NXT as the third brand. I’m sure you’ll see lots of guys moving to different brands as time goes on.”

Adam Cole’s future with NXT continues to be up in the air. Reports recently stated Cole was backstage at Smackdown for a meeting with Vince McMahon.

PROGRESS Release Doug Williams Interview on Peacock and WWE Network

0

PROGRESS Wrestling has released a new video interview on Peacock and WWE Network. The company confirmed this afternoon that the new series, Hi Def With Hustle, would be starting with a sit down between PROGRESS commentator Lee ‘Hustle’ Malone and British wrestling legend Doug Williams.

Doug Williams discusses a number of topics during the interview, ranging from his start in judo to his PROGRESS retirement match against Trent Seven inside of Wembley Arena.

Williams has most notably performed for Ring of Honor in the early to mid 2000s and TNA. During his time with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, Doug Williams would become the X Division and Television Champion, whilst also winning the TNA Tag Team Championships and IWGP Tag Team Championships alongside Nick Aldis/Magnus in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Doug Williams

Doug Williams retired from the British scene back in 2018, losing to the aforementioned NXT UK Superstar Trent Seven in a PROGRESS ATLAS Title match at Wembley Arena. Williams stated that he would retire the moment that he lost the belt, and did until earlier this year where he confirmed that he would be entering the ring once again.

Williams has already performed for ICW and Rev Pro. The Ambassador of British Wrestling confirmed his return to the ring on Twitter earlier this year, writing “the events of the past year has made me reassess my decision to retire as it made me understand that you should use your life to fullest doing what you enjoy. As such I am open to bookings again, email is in my bio…”

WWE SmackDown aired from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. Finn Balor squared off against Baron Corbin and SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair responded to the attack from Sasha Banks last week. Edge also addressed Seth Rollins’ attack during tonight’s show.

SmackDown Results

  1. Jey Uso def. Dominik
  2. Shinsuke Nakamura def. Apollo Crews via DQ
  3. Nox def. Tamina
  4. Street Profits def. Robert Roode & Dolph Ziggler
  5. Bianca Belair def. Zelina Vega
  6. Finn Balor def. Baron Corbin

Here are the takeaways from this week’s show:

Bianca Belair Will Face Sasha Banks At SummerSlam

Sasha Banks kicked off this week’s episode of SmackDown and made her way to the ring. Sasha Banks returned on SmackDown last week and attacked Bianca Belair after tagging with her in a match.

Banks said she will never let anyone steal her spotlight again and rolled footage of the attack on Belair last week. Sasha claimed that Bianca would be nothing without her and noted that Belair was crying before their match at WrestleMania because she was standing in the ring with the greatest of all time.

Sasha stated that she came back to SmackDown to make Bianca pay for the disrespect she has shown her. SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair interrupted and told Banks that she just doesn’t want her to shine. Belair rolled into the ring and Banks retreated.

Belair joked that Sasha is about to take another four months off. Bianca said that Banks is one of the greatest but she’s the champ and if she will have to take it from her. Zelina Vega joined the party and made her way to the ring. Belair told Zelina not to think about getting into the ring with her.

Vega claimed that Banks was a “ratchet little vulture” that swooped in and took her title match. Zelina pointed out that Belair accepted her challenge for a match. Bianca told Zelina that she will fight her tonight and fight Sasha Banks at SummerSlam.

Jey Uso def. Dominik

Dominik faced Jey Uso tonight on SmackDown. Jimmy Uso and Rey Mysterio were ringside for the match.

Before the match, Rey and Dominik had a conversation backstage. Rey said that they have to be more strategic because they are in line for a shot at the SmackDown Tag Team Championships at SummerSlam. Rey noted that he beat Jimmy Uso last week with Dominik’s help and told him that he didn’t need it. Dominik laughed and told Rey that he wouldn’t need his help tonight either then.

Jey dominated the action early as Jimmy Uso cheered him on. Dominik battled back and connected with an awesome Sunset Flip Powerbomb into the barricade as SmackDown went to a break.

Jey hit a Clothesline for a two count went SmackDown returned. Jey went for a Samoan Drop but Dominik countered into a Neckbreaker for a two count. Dominik followed it up with the 619 and made his way to the top rope. Jimmy tried to interfere but Rey stopped it with a Senton off the steel steps. Jey capitalized on the distraction with a Superkick and a Frog Splash for the pinfall victory.

Nakamura def. Crews via DQ

King Nakamura faced Apollo Crews in an Intercontinental Championship Contenders Match (Nakamura would get a title shot if he pinned the champion). Boogs and Commander Azeez were ringside for the match.

Crews hit a kick to the midsection and followed it up with a shoulder tackle that knocked Nakamura to the mat. Shinsuke battled back with a Dropkick for a near fall. Apollo slammed Shinsuke’s neck across the top rope and leveled him with a Clothesline.

Apollo planted Nakamura with a Body Slam for a two count. The Intercontinental Champion made his way to the top rope but Nakamura caught him with a boot to the face. Shinsuke connected with a knee to the face for a two count. Nakamura hit another knee to the face and went for the cover but Azeez dragged him out of the ring to end the match in a DQ. Shinsuke threw Apollo onto Azeez and then posed with Boogs as he shredded on the guitar.

Big E Interrupted Paul Heyman

Kayla Braxton was standing outside Universal Champion Roman Reigns’ locker room. Paul Heyman opened the door and Kayla asked if Roman had a comment about what transpired last week. Heyman said Cena was thieving a title match at SummerSlam from Finn Balor. Paul joked that it would be like Tom Brady signing with the Buccaneers for 75 million and then Heyman hit him with a kendo stick, signed the contract and took the money. Heyman called the contract a joke, and that Roman Reigns has nothing to say about John Cena. Big E showed up with the MITB briefcase and laughed at Paul as he closed the door.

Nox Picked Up A Win

Tamina faced Nox tonight and Shotzi was ringside for the match. Nox ran into a big Clothesline from Tamina and then got sent to the corner. Tamina went for a Splash but Nox got out of the way. Nox booted Tamina to the canvas and stomped on her in the corner of the ring. Nox connected with a Bronco Buster and went for the cover but Tamina kicked out at two. Tamina hit a Superkick and went for a Samoan Drop. Shotzi shot something out of the tank and it distracted Tamina. Nox capitalized with a roll-up for the victory.

Edge vs. Rollins Is Official For SummerSlam

Edge began the 2nd hour of this week’s SmackDown and got a great reaction from the crowd. Edge said that Seth Rollins isn’t here tonight and he doesn’t blame him for not showing up. Edge stated that Rollins cost him the Universal Championship at Money in the Bank. He added that things would have ended tonight if Rollins showed up.

Seth Rollins appeared via satellite in a suit that resembled a couch. Rollins laughed and noted that they are a lot a like. Seth claimed that Edge would have done the same thing if he were in his shoes. Edge challenged Seth Rollins to a match at SummerSlam and Rollins said he will think about it. Rollins brought up Edge’s family and suggested that he should retire. Edge flipped out that Rollins brought up his family and called Seth “Edge lite”. Rollins got pissed off and accepted the match. Edge will battle Seth Rollins for the first time at SummerSlam.

Street Profits Picked Up A Win

Street Profits faced Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode tonight on SmackDown. Ziggler and Roode isolated Montez Ford in the ring to start off the action. Dawkins tagged in and planted Ziggler with a DDT but Roode broke up the cover. Ziggler sent Ford out of the ring and hit Dawkins with a Fameasser for a near fall. Dawkins hit a Spinebuster and tagged in Montez Ford. Montez climbed to the top rope and connected with a Frog Splash for the pinfall victory.

Bianca Belair def. Zelina Vega

SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair faced Zelina Vega in a non-title match. Vega would earn a future title shot if she was able to defeat the champion. Zelina got in some offense but Belair put an end to it by slamming Vega’s head on the turnbuckle. Vega responded with an elbow to the face and rolled up Belair for a near fall.

Belair showed off her power and lifted Vega up. Zelina escaped and grabbed Bianca’s hair. The referee broke it up and Bianca hit a Dropkick that sent Vega to the outside. Bianca lifted up Vega again but Sasha Banks’ music hit. The Boss distracted Belair on the apron and Vega connected with a Hurricanrana. Back in the ring, Zelina went for the cover but Belair kicked out at one. Sasha laughed as SmackDown went to a commercial break.

When SmackDown returned, Vega connected with a DDT for a two count. Zelina booted the SmackDown Women’s Champion out of the ring and leaped onto her. Belair caught her and slammed Vega into the barricade. Back in the ring, Belair hit the KOD for the pinfall victory.

Roman Reigns Sent A Message To Finn Balor

Finn Balor battled Baron Corbin tonight on SmackDown. Corbin pleaded for mercy at the beginning but then attacked Balor. Corbin connected with a Suplex and beat Finn down in the corner of the ring. Balor battled back and Dropkicked Corbin into the turnbuckle. Corbin fell to the canvas and Balor made his way to the top rope. Finn hit the Coup de Grace for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Finn Balor said that he’s not smiling about what happened last week and still wants to face Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. Balor added that he is willing to go through John Cena to get his title match.

Universal Champion Roman Reigns interrupted with Paul Heyman and posed with the title as SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, Reigns said that Heyman has already addressed what John Cena did last week. Roman told Balor that he tried to help him and told Finn to keep the Head of the Table’s name out of his mouth. Roman threw the mic at Balor and went to leave the ring. Balor shoved Reigns to the outside and posed in the middle of the ring.

Roman Reigns hopped on the ring apron and had a stare down with Finn. The Usos attacked Balor from behind and beat him down as Reigns made his way up the entrance ramp. Finn battled back as Reigns took notice on the top of the entrance ramp. Balor threw The Usos to the outside and flipped onto them before posing once again in the ring. Reigns took off his jacket and marched down the entrance ramp. Roman got into the ring and Balor hit him with a knee to the face.

Balor followed it up with a Slingbalde and set up for a Dropkick but The Usos broke it up. Jimmy and Jey attacked Balor once again and Roman hit a Superman Punch. Uso followed it up with a Frog Splash and Reigns hit Balor with several punches and then applied the Guillotine choke. Reigns then raised the Universal Championship to close the show.

WWE SummerSlam Updated Card: Edge vs. Seth Rollins Booked

0

Edge vs. Seth Rollins is the latest match to be announced for the upcoming WWE SummerSlam PPV.

After a few weeks of tension and them getting physical, the match was booked on Friday’s episode of SmackDown. Last week,  Rollins ambushed Edge on the stage. This week saw Edge do a promo about The Architect. Rollins interrupted by doing a backstage segment to taunt The Rated R Superstar.

Edge ended up challenging Rollins for SummerSlam. At first, Rollins said he would have to think it over because he’s got a lot going on right now, but Edge talked some trash to the point where Rollins ended up accepting the SummerSlam challenge.

Bronson Reed & Bobby Fish Among 12 WWE NXT Talent Releases

0

WWE has made more talent cuts and this time it hit the NXT brand hard.

On Friday,  Fightful and PWInsider reported the following names that were released by the company:

  • Bronson Reed
  • Bobby Fish
  • Mercedes Martinez
  • Leon Ruff
  • Tyler Rust
  • Jake Atlas
  • Ari Sterling
  • Kona Reeves
  • Zechariah Smith
  • Asher Hale
  • Giant Zanjeer
  • Stephon Smith

This is the latest round of cuts. Because these are NXT stars, they will have 30-day non-compete clauses instead of the 90-day non-compete clauses that main roster talent are under.

Several of these newer wrestlers such as Hale had just moved to Florida to start training at the WWE Performance Center:

Reed is the biggest name from these cuts as he signed with WWE in 2019 and won the North American title earlier this year where he held it for a month.

Reed reacted to the news by writing on Twitter, “Just got released by WWE. This monster is back on the loose … you don’t know WHAT you’ve just done.” He tagged AEW, Ring of Honor, Impact and New Japan in the tweet.

Fish, a former NXT Tag Team Champion, found success with the Undisputed Era faction that included Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong. The group broke up earlier this year. In fact, Fish just lost a match to Strong on Tuesday’s NXT that was taped two weeks ago.

In April, WWE cut Samoa Joe, Iiconics, Mickie James, Chelsea Green and others while in June, both main roster and NXT/205 Live talents were let go included Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, Ruby Riott, Fandango, Lana, Tyler Breeze, Tony Nese and others.

Last Saturday, Bray Wyatt was released and Ric Flair got out of his contract earlier this week.

WWE NXT Stars Work Dark Matches Before Friday’s SmackDown

0

WWE held dark matches before Friday’s episode of SmackDown in Tampa, FL at the Amalie Arena, which involved a few different NXT stars.

Dakota Kai took on fellow NXT star Aliyah and went over. There have been rumors of Kai being called up to the main roster.

This marked the first time Kai has appeared on the main roster. Another dark match at this event saw Austin Theory, who has also competed in dark matches in recent weeks, lost to Raw star Keith Lee via pinfall.

WWE has booked several NXT stars in dark matches since they returned to live crowds last month.

Scarlett, Xia Li, Bronson Reed, Odyssey Jones, and Xyon Quinn have all wrestled in dark matches. Reed has appeared on WWE Main Event. Former WWE Tag Team Champion Davey Boy Smith Jr, who has recently re-signed with WWE, also has worked a dark match, but has yet to return on TV.

Shotzi, Nox, Karrion Kross, and Toni Storm all wrestled in dark matches as well before making their debuts on the main roster. Kross was sent to Raw and Shotzi, Nox, and Storm appearing on SmackDown.

More NXT stars could be brought up to the main roster when the Draft takes place.

Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks Set For WWE SummerSlam

0

WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks has been confirmed for this year’s SummerSlam.

WWE confirmed it on Friday’s episode of Smackdown when Banks did a promo about how she is back to reclaim the spotlight that she created and said she turned Belair from a rookie to a champion. Banks doesn’t appreciate the lack of gratitude for all the accolades and fame she has brought to Belair. This led to Belair coming out to challenge her to a title match at SummerSlam.

Banks returned to WWE television on the July 30th episode of SmackDown. A segment where Belair celebrated reaching 100 days as SmackDown Women’s Champion led Carmella and Zelina Vega wanting a title shot.

When they didn’t get what they wanted, they attacked the champion. Banks made her return to make the save. This led to a tag team match being made.

After teaming with Belair to defeat Carmella & Vega in the main event, Banks attacked Belair and beat her down. The show ended with Banks having Belair locked in the Banks Statement.

Belair won the SmackDown Women’s Championship by defeating Banks in the main event of WrestleMania 37 night one this April and had been off television since then.

Adam Cole To Meet With Vince McMahon At SmackDown (Report)

0

Adam Cole is in high demand. The former NXT Champion will be a free agent later this month. WWE officials thought he was locked in through the end of the year, but that was not the case.

Cole’s WWE contract reportedly expired several weeks ago, but he agreed to work through SummerSlam weekend as an act of good faith.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon will meet with Cole at tonight’s SmackDown from Washington D.C., according to Fightful. The wrestling war between WWE and AEW heating up, so rest assured McMahon will pull out all the stops to keep Adam Cole on his payroll.

Adam Cole’s Choice

Adam Cole has been with WWE since 2017. He’s reached the top of the mountain in the company’s yellow and gold brand. Cole is the longest-reigning NXT Champion in history. He’s also the held the North American and Tag Team titles.

There is a lot of uncertainty about how he’d fare on the main roster, despite everything he’s accomplished in NXT. WWE has a mixed track record when transitioning talent to Raw and SmackDown.

Adam Cole could re-sign with WWE or he could wait until September 1st and test his value on the open market. He’d almost certainly get a strong offer from AEW.

Britt Baker, Cole’s girlfriend, recently commented on the possibility of him joining her in AEW. During an interview with the Daily Star, she said:

“He’s happy where he is. So, if he were to jump ship and come my way, that would be awesome, but if he stays in WWE forever then I’d be happy, too, as I just want him to be happy.”

– Britt Baker

The 32-year-old Bullet Club alum is set to cash in with the biggest contract of his wrestling career, wherever he winds up.

We will continue to follow this situation closely. Stay tuned for further updates on Adam Cole and his future.

Jim Ross Comments On CM Punk/AEW Rumors

0

With CM Punk widely believed to be headed to AEW in just two weeks, Conrad Thompson asked Jim Ross about Punk on the latest edition of “Grillin Jr“.

“I hope we sign him, I hope he’s one of our guys,” JR said about Punk on the show. “CM Punk is a treasure. And he can contribute a lot to a lot of guys and he’s willing to share his knowledge and his expertise to other talents. He pays it forward and has no problem doing so, that’s my take on him.”

“If we can sign CM Punk to our team and our roster, it’s a great get,” JR continued.

Punk’s debut in AEW is heavily rumored to take place at AEW First Dance. The event will be held in Chicago’s United Center on August 20th. Ross also commented on if Punk’s 8 years away from the ring will impact his work.

“He’s a huge player in the big picture and am I worried his layoff is going to affect his work? We know it’s going to affect his work to some degree because he’s 8 years older. And he’s in his 40s. But that doesn’t seem to matter in today’s wrestling business especially when you have a schedule like ours.”

JR also spoke about how valuable he feels Punk will be for developing talent on the roster. Having someone like Punk around gives up-and-comers a valuable veteran to get advice from.

“There’s no doubt in my mind he’s going to be effective as hell,” JR continued.

“If CM Punk signs with us he will be used and valued in multiple areas and I don’t think that anybody that’s concerned about his in-ring game have anything to worry about.”

Renee Paquette Will Be A Free Agent Soon, Open To Working For AEW

0

Renee Pacquette (FKA Renee Young) announced last summer that she would be leaving WWE. Her last show was SummerSlam on August 23rd, 2020. She is still under a non-compete clause with WWE, which evidently extended 1-year after her leaving the company.

She addressed her situation recently during an interview with Wrestling Inc.

“My non-compete with WWE is nearly up,” Paquette said. “I don’t ever want to separate myself from professional wrestling. I know that’s where my fanbase comes from; I know that’s essentially going to always be my bread and butter — and I love that. I love professional wrestling, so I’m not looking to ‘get away’ from it by any stretch.”

Renee Paquette Talks AEW

Renee also commented on the possibility of working with All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

“Looking at AEW, I think there are endless opportunities of other things I could be doing over there, if that was to be something that came up down the line,” she continued. “I’ve honestly not put much thought into it. That’s interesting to be like, ‘Oh, wait! I can do wrestling things again!'”

Her situation was addressed recently in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

“She had an employee contract and could leave with two weeks notice, but because she left on her own, she couldn’t work for a competitor for one year, which sounds insane, but that’s the nature of the contract,” wrote Dave Meltzer. “Unlike the 90-day non-compete for a main roster talent when they are let go, she wasn’t paid for the year.”

Paquette hosts the popular Oral Sessions podcast. She and husband Jon Moxley welcomed the birth of their baby daughter Nora last month.

0

AEW has released the new entrance video used by Darby Allin to its official AEW Music YouTube channel. The video was animated by video production company, Rooster Teeth.

The full video can be viewed in the player below:

Darby Allin On Filmmaking and Art

A former film student, Darby Allin spoke to the Independent about filmmaking, art, and more earlier this year.

“There’s so much in this world that I want to do that I don’t want to pigeonhole myself into one thing. I love art, whether it be film-making, fashion, anything. I don’t want to be this 55-year-old guy wrestling in a high school gym, not because he wants to but because he has to,” Allin said during the interview.

“The wheels are spinning in my head on what’s after all of this, so it’s fun.”

During an appearance on the Wrestling Perspectives podcast earlier this year, Allin spoke about how he feels he’s more productive when he’s alone.

“So I really just feel super more productive when I’m by myself. But when it’s time to go out there and put a match together or put a storyline together, I’ll be totally in your face like super collabing and just talking, but otherwise man I really like to be left alone.”

AEW Announces Friday Night Dark To Air Tonight

0

Tonight is the last Friday without an episode of AEW Rampage but AEW has announced a special episode of Friday Night Dark will take place tonight on YouTube. The show will air in the same timeslot that AEW Rampage will be in starting next week. No matches have been confirmed for tonight’s show.

AEW announced the news Twitter:

The first-ever edition of AEW Rampage will take place next Friday, August 13th, 2021. The event will take place in the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Just one match has been confirmed for the show thus far. Pittsburgh’s own Dr. Britt Baker DMD will defend her AEW Women’s World Championship against Red Velvet.

AEW’s second episode of Rampage will air from Chicago’s United Center. Over 13,000 tickets have been sold to the event. While no matches have been confirmed for “The First Dance” event, it has been widely speculated that CM Punk could debut in the promotion then.

Tony Khan spoke to PW Insider about the different taping schedules that will occur for Rampage and Dynamite.

“With Rampage, there’s going to be some weeks Rampage will be live and there’ll be weeks where we plan to tape Rampage after Dynamite, including here at Arthur Ashe Stadium [in NYC], where we will be filming also after. We’ll do Dynamite live and we’ll also film Rampage. And in some of the markets where we have these amazing crowds, I think it’s okay.”

Several Easter Eggs On AEW Dynamite Possibly Foreshadowing New Arrivals

0

Even before AEW existed, members of the Elite frequently put easter eggs in YouTube videos, Tweets, or elsewhere as little bread crumbs for fans to follow. With so many rumors out there regarding new AEW signees, fans have been pointing out possible easter eggs on AEW programming as of late. We’ve compiled the most notable of these below.

AEW Teasing CM Punk On Dynamite The Last 2 Weeks

For the last two weeks, fans have been pointing out possible references to CM Punk on Dynamite. Last week, the most notable tease of CM Punk heading to AEW was a backstage segment with Darby Allin, when he slowly and dramatically delivered the line “Best in the World.” Fans have noted other teases of Punk on that show, however.

It was noted that Nick Jackson did Punk’s running knee and bulldog out of the corner combo during the 10-man Elite vs Dark Order match. Some fans have noted that MJF’s promo to Chris Jericho at the end of last week’s show was very similar to the first few lines of Punk’s famous Pipe Bomb promo as well.

“As you sit there in more pain than you’ve ever been in your entire life, I need you to listen to me,” MJF said.

“John Cena, while you lay there hopefully as uncomfortable as you can possibly can be, I want you to listen to me,” Punk said during his Pipe Bomb promo.

This week, many fans pointed out that Kenny Omega was wearing a Cookie Monster t-shirt. Punk has previously said that the CM in his name can stand for Cookie Monster, in addition to other things. Joe Pearl Tweeted out Punk’s comments and how they relate to Cookie Monster.

Other Easter Eggs On Dynamite

Other Easter Eggs some fans have been pointing out include the following:

  • Doc Gallows wearing a robe – possible Ric Flair reference?
  • The Young Bucks wearing flowery attire – possible Bray Wyatt reference? (Granted, they’ve been wearing these since their heel turn, but maybe they knew ahead of time…)
  • The cutting down of the basketball net – some have said this might be a reference to CM Punk “Breaking the internet” or “breaking the net” – Or it could just be the Elite won all the titles so they cut down the net like they do in college basketball.
  • Karl Anderson is wearing a Bollywood Boyz shirt.

What CD Did Hangman Page Leave For The Dark Order?

There was also another interesting moment on Dynamite this week. When Hangman Page spoke to the Dark Order backstage, he left a CD on the table. This was pointed out by some fans online.

Nothing For Bryan Danielson?

Also notable is that there do not appear to be any teases for Bryan Danielson. Unless we’ve missed some. If you’ve noticed any easter eggs for him on AEW programming, let us know in the comments section.

Gable Steveson Wins Gold At Tokyo Olympics, Is WWE Career Next?

0

Earlier this year, Gable Steveson Tweeted out that he is going to be the “biggest star that WWE has ever had” after winning the NCAA wrestling title at 285lbs. This morning at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Gable Steveson defeated Georgia’s Geno Petriashvili 9-8 to win the Olympic men’s freestyle 125kg gold medal.

Is Gable Steveson Headed To WWE?

Following his victory in the NCAA Heavyweight division earlier this year, Steveson sent a hand-waving emoji to Vince McMahon.

Steveson has not been shy about his intensions to join WWE after his amateur wrestling career concludes.

https://twitter.com/GableSteveson/status/1376280393817657346

Steveson also attended the University of Minnesota and trained with alumni Brock Lesnar.

“My relationship with Brock has been awesome,” Steveson said to Gopher Sports. “It’s outstanding that a guy like that has noticed me and has gone out of his way to be there for me and guide me in the right direction. We all know who Brock is on TV, but behind everything else, he is a nice person and he has done some amazing things for me.”

In the same interview, he would talk about WWE being a life-long dream.

“This is a dream I’ve had since I was a kid. Everybody grew up watching WWE when they were young, I know I watched it. It’s just been a lifelong dream of mine.”

Steveson’s brother Bobby has already started training at the WWE Performance Center.

0

Impact Results 8/5:

  1. Chris Bey defeated Juice Robinson
  2. X-Division #1 Contendership
Jake Something defeated Shawn Daivari vs Rohit Raju vs Trey Miguel

  4. Steve Maclin defeated Jah-C
  5. Eddie Edwards, Sami Callihan & Kazarian defeated The Elite (Kenny Omega, Karl Anderson, & Doc Gallows)

Chris Bey Beats Juice Robinson, Officially Joins Bullet Club

Chris Bey faced Juice Robinson this week on Impact. He’d pick up one of the biggest wins of his young career but it was in part thanks to some distraction from the outside. Jay White got up on the ring apron, prompting his NJPW Resurgence opponent David Finlay to yank him off the apron. As the two began brawling, it distracted Juice who was then left vulnerable to a springboard cutter from Bey for the win.

After the match, as Bey and White were celebrating on the ramp, White gave Bey a Bullet Club t-shirt, seemingly officially inducting him into the famed faction.

Mickie James Reveals Melina As Deonna Purrazzo’s Empowerrr Opponent

Highlights of Drama King Matt and Deonna Purazzo winning the Homecoming King and Queen tournament from over the weekend were shown. As the two were cutting a promo this week, they were interrupted by Mickie James. Purrazzo wasn’t sure why James was out to interrupt her yet again but Mickie stated that it was to introduce her opponent on the Empowerrr PPV later this month, Melina. The contract is signed and the match is made official for St. Louis at the Chase.

Su Yung Is Kimber Lee’s Mother?

We got a creepy little vignette featuring the former Kimber Lee and Susan. After enlisting the help of Father James Mitchell to bring back Su Yung, Kimber Lee appears to have been transformed into a disciple of hers now. This dark version of Kimber Lee promises to bring her “mother” Su Yung the souls she desires.

Jake Something Earns X-Division Championship Match

X-Division Champion Josh Alexander has defeated all challengers for his belt, even escaping the Ultimate X Match with his title recently. A new #1 contender for the belt was determined this week, however, when Jake Something won a fatal 4-way match against Rohit Raju, Shawn Daivari, and Trey Miguel.

After the match, Daivari challenged Alexander to a non-title match for next week. If he can beat the champion, he’ll be awarded a future title match.

Also, Rohit was mad about the result and tossed a bag backstage. The bag almost hit Chelsea Green, leading Matt Cardona to confront him. That will likely set up something for later.

Tasha Steelz Enlists Help Of Savannah Evans, Ends Tag Team With Kiera Hogan

And just like that, one of the most successful tag-teams in Knockouts history is no more. Fire N Flava are the only 2x winners of the Knockouts tag belts and held the titles for more combined days than any other team in history (aside from ODB and Eric Young, who held the titles for long after they’d stopped being used in the promotion.)

Rachael Ellering and Jordynne Grace are back on the same page, and they picked up a win over Hogan and Steelz this week, but the real story came after the match. Steelz, evidently seeing the writing on the wall for her team, enlisted the help of the debuting Savannah Evans, who attacked Hogan after the match. A rather mean looking Steelz and Savannah then left the ring area together.

Steve Maclin Is A Dastardly Heel, Petey Williams Makes The Save

Steve Maclin has shown a no-nonsense approach to being a dastardly heel thus far in Impact Wrestling. He made quick work of Jah-C in squash match style but decided to continue the attack after the match. This brought out Petey Williams with a chair to make the save, likely setting up a future match between the two.

Tenille Dashwood Not Impressed With Her Guests On “All About Me” This Week

Dashwood’s talk show where her guests as her questions rather than the other way around didn’t go quite as she planned this week. Scott D’Amore accused Dashwood of phoning border patrol agents to prevent Taylor Wilde from being able to cross the Canada-USA border to attend Impact shows. D’Amore then set up a match between Dashwood and Wilde for next week.

Impact Stars Beat The Elite In The Main Event

Longtime Impact/TNA veteran Kazarian teamed with Impact stars Eddie Edwards and Sami Callihan to go up against the Elite this week. Callihan and Edwards would have to put aside their long-running rivalry and work together. That’s exactly what they did. The finish of the match saw Callihan give Omega a piledriver on the ring apron while in the ring Eddie Edwards hit the Boston Knee Party on Anderson for the win.

W. Morrissey Attacks Eddie Edwards

Eddie Edwards defeated W. Morrissey in a hardcore match at Homecoming to even their head-to-head series at one win a piece. Morrissey let it be known their rivalry is not over yet, however, as he attacked Edwards after the main event. The show went off the air after Morrissey hit a powerbomb on Edwards.

Coming Up In Impact Wrestling

Here are the upcoming matches in Impact Wrestling:

Next Week:

  • Battle Royal to determine Kenny Omega’s next challenger.
  • Bullet Club (Jay White & Chris Bey) vs FinJuice (Juice Robinson & David Finlay
  • Taylor Wilde vs Tenille Dashwood
  • Josh Alexander vs Shawn Daivari

Emergence (August 20th):

  • Impact Tag Team Championships
The Good Brothers (c) (or Dark Order if they win on Dynamite next week) vs Violent By Design vs Rich Swann & Willie Mack
  • X-Division Championship
Josh Alexander (c) vs Jake Something

Jordynne Grace Feels Forbidden Door Isn’t Open To Female Wrestlers

0

Ever since the forbidden door opened, wrestling has changed. The wrestling world has watched the different weekly shows wondering who on earth could appear at any given moment. However, IMPACT star Jordynne Grace feels that there has been a general lack of female talent walking through the door.

Talking during a recent interview with TalkSport, Jordynne Grace voiced her disappointment in the way the forbidden door has operated for female wrestlers.

“Honestly, I was super excited when it first got announced, but as the months have dragged on with only a few things happening and never really happening for the women. I’ve been more disappointed than anything else really. Because I thought the forbidden door was definitely going to wide-open instead of having to knock and only a few people get in at a time [laughs]. But you know, that’s the nature of the business, right!”

Jordynne Grace Wants to Fight the Very Best Around

The forbidden door has been great for wrestling fans. There is an excitement around the sport that had been lost for a long time. However, it is often overlooked that stars like Jordynne Grace or any other wrestler, male or female, are also excited by what this opening means to them.

Wrestling is a small business in many ways. The athletes all know each other, and many have invariably worked for multiple promotions. This new open-door policy means that the previously erected boundaries are gone. It’s conceivable that a story could be sold to creative pitting anybody against anybody else. That’s an exciting prospect for fans and performers alike.

Jordynne Grace doesn’t really know why more women haven’t crossed the forbidden threshold. However, she has hopes that this could change. Grace is a powerful and talented performer. There is a number of exciting possibly matches for her should she or any other female star be allowed through the door.

Sami Zayn Is Not a Fan of The “You Deserve It” Chant

0

As a character, Sami Zayn has never been afraid to stand up and make his voice heard. Off-screen, he is a very different figure, however, one thing remains the same. His passion and his ability to express his point and hold down a conversation about it. Recently, Zayn joined Renee Paquette for another Oral Sessions episode.

During his chat, Sami Zayn spent some time talking about wrestling chants. Focusing on one in particular which is a common chant and one most wrestlers love to hear. However, for Sami, he finds it a little derogatory, especially when looking at the big picture of professional wrestling.

“My favorite chant in wrestling, the ‘you deserve it.’ And I’m like ‘do you? Do you deserve anything?’” Sami Zayn said. “What about believing that chant? You know what? ‘I worked hard and I do deserve it.’ No, I don’t think so. Everyone works hard, with a few exceptions. The biggest source of, what’s the word I’m looking for, malcontent? The thing that leaves me in a state of unease is how amazing my life is and the juxtaposition with how awful life is for so many other people and the sorrow I feel for other people and how I have it so good. It’s not because I deserve it. That’s the point. I don’t deserve it any more than the next person. I don’t.”

Sami Zayn Feels Lucky to be Where He is and Remains Humble

The message Sami Zayn is trying to get across is not one of big headedness, nor is it one of disrespect to the fan base. He was saying that just because a wrestler wins a title, it doesn’t mean he deserves it any more than anybody else in the locker room. The wrestlers whose job it is to lose every match, or who go the distance week after week in thrilling non-title storylines. Everybody deserves it because while wrestling is about individuals, it is very much a team success.

“I believe it’s just mainly luck. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I worked hard. Whatever. Everybody works hard. And you know what, I’m really great at wrestling. I’m really really good. Not everybody is this good.  But a lot of people work hard at a lot of things and don’t get the breaks, and I got breaks. And it’s time to acknowledge that. Don’t ever chant ‘You deserve it’ at me. I don’t want to hear it. I would much rather ‘you got lucky! You got lucky!’ That would be more accurate.”

Sami Zayn understands the importance of every cog in the wheel. He doesn’t begrudge anybody their success but feels the relationship of success between the individual at the top and the roster that helped get them there is often forgotten.

Al Snow Believes Wrestlers Focus on Ratings Over Fan Connection

0

Any wrestling fan from the 1990s will remember Al Snow and his run through WWE. You remember, he was the crazy wrestler who carried a mannequin head everywhere and had Help Me written backwards on his forehead. He was quite the character, a memorable character, who resonated with the fans.

Well, Al Snow was talking on a recent episode of the It’s My House Podcast, where he had some harsh words about modern wrestlers and their lack of connection with the fan base.

“The talent isn’t performing for you anymore. That’s a fact,” Al Snow said. “They’re not going in the ring and wrestling for you. Your opinion doesn’t matter. They are wrestling for each other, trying to impress each other, and they are wrestling for that small group of people that write a report and give them critical acclaim and say either it was really a good match, or it was a bad match. That’s the truth. That’s why the talent is so caught up in today and in the locker room calling every single second. They’re not living in the moment, not reacting to each other, to the referee, not interacting with the audience like they used to. They’re so concerned that they’re gonna forget the next thing that’s coming up, and they’re scared to death that they’re going to make a mistake.”

Al Snow Feels Wrestlers Are Too Focused on Ratings than Performances

As part of his rant, Al Snow made big references to the journalists and writers. Those who give the ratings and award merit to stars that put on the best show. Claiming that the need to be pure and faultless is pushing wrestlers to forget the fans, and in many ways, forget about wrestling. Preferring to focus on delivering a flawless performance rather than a real one.

“It’s not that you’ll notice it because you won’t. It’s that somebody in the back will notice it, and we’ll call them out on it. Or someone who’s writing a report will notice that they made a mistake, or they did a botch. You can’t botch anything unless you expose the wrestling, the lie. If you ruin the illusion, that’s the only way you can make a mistake, otherwise, there’s no way to do it.”

Al Snow is clearly still passionate about wrestling. While his words may not ring true for everybody, his general assumption was that when wrestlers cared for the fans, you could identify the star with a single short sentence. Nowadays, however, with everybody out to impress rather than connect, that is getting harder and harder to accomplish.

Bobby Eaton: “As Good As Anyone of His Era”

0

Bobby Eaton’s most endearing trait was his giving nature.

Friends of the former NWA and WCW Tag Team Champion, and NWA/WCW TV Champion, Eaton was known for carrying bags of extras on the road in case he or any of his fellow wrestlers needed them. He would donate gas money and groceries while on the road to people that needed them, even as a member of one of the most hated tag teams in pro wrestling history.

“As a human being, Bobby was just like his namesake,” Les Thatcher said. “He was beautiful.”

Eaton died on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021 at the age of 62. The Huntsville, Ala., native was married to Donna Dundee, the daughter of wrestling legend Bill Dundee, who died in June.

Thatcher knew Eaton for 40 years, since the Huntsville, Ala., native began appearing in the southern NWA territories in his mid-teens.

“As a worker he was as good as anyone of that era. He was so smooth, so dead-on with how he worked. Everything just flowed with him he was so good, but he was also an innovator.” – Bruce Mitchell, wrestling writer and historian.

Eaton was one of the most influential wrestlers of his time, both as a tag team and singles wrestler. His work with Dennis Condrey, Stan Lane and Jim Cornette as part of the Midnight Express is considered by many to be the greatest tag team work ever and stands out 40 years later. He was a headliner with the Midnight Express with two different partners, and its feuds with the Rock and Roll Express, Dusty Rhodes and Magnum TA and the Road Warriors were a key in the high-drawing era of Jim Crockett Promotions in the mid to late 1980s.

“He was consistently as great of wrestler as I’ve ever saw,” Bruce Mitchell, pro wrestling writer, columnist and podcaster told SEScoops on Thursday. “He was always very friendly, just a nice human being. He was always giving things and money to people who needed it. As a worker he was as good as anyone of that era. He was so smooth, so dead-on with how he worked. Everything just flowed with him he was so good, but he was also an innovator.”

Starting in NWA Mid-America in his mid-teens, Eaton was a member of the Jet Set tag team with George Gulas, the son of promoter Nick Gulas. Mitchell said Eaton was by far the more talented of the two wrestlers and carried the team early, even while a teenager.

Eaton briefly held the National TV Title in Georgia Championship wrestling after he left Mid-America around 1980. He later teamed with Koko B. Ware when he moved to Memphis in 1980 as part of Jerry Jarrett’s Continental Wrestling Association. He was with the promotion for three years before moving to Bill Watts’ Mid-South territory, where he first encountered Condrey and Cornette, and reforming a pre-existing stable into a new tag team, one that would change wrestling.

The threesome immediately became three of the hottest heels in the country, feuding with Magnum TA and Mr. Wrestling II for the Mid-South Tag Team titles. Mid-South is where they began their feud with the Rock and Roll Express – which would run for decades across several territories. The Midnight Express headlined numerous shows at the Superdome and Crockett’s Starrcade event.

Eaton was part of several top PPV main events and national TV main events on TBS. He was in the War Games cage match several times as both a heel and face, and in a “champions vs. champions” match on TBS, headlined Clash of the Champions as the US and World Tag Team champs against US champ Barry Windham and World champ Ric Flair in a two-out-of-three falls match. Eaton headlined the Clash again when he was a singles wrestler and TV champion, losing a two-out-of-three falls match to Ric Flair in the main event.

Eaton worked a short period for Jim Cornette and producer Ric Rubin in Smokey Mountain Wrestling. He spent the most of the 1990s in WCW as tag team partners with Arn Anderson and Lord Steven (William) Regal.

Eaton’s good nature and excellent work continued to earn him admirers later in his career. Bill Goldberg, who was WCW’s biggest star in 1998 and in the middle of his 173-match win streak, wanted to lose to Eaton in the middle of the streak when WCW made a tour stop near Eaton’s hometown in Alabama. Goldberg told Steve Austin during an interview on Austin’s “Broken Skull Sessions” podcast in 2019, he went to WCW agent Arn Anderson to ask he if could drop the match to Eaton, but the idea was nixed.

Eaton worked on the indie circuit after 2000 and was often a trainer at camps, teaching up and coming wrestlers. He had three daughters.

From Scaffolds to Masterpieces, Beautiful Bobby’s Must-See Matches

1. Superstars on the Superstation: Midnight Express vs. Rock and Roll Express, Feb. 1986

Superstars on the Superstation was a special primetime show Crockett ran on TBS in February 1986. The first match on the show, Jim Cornette’s tennis racket came into play and helped the Midnights win their first NWA World Tag Team title. One highlight was Eaton, who recorded the pinfall, being held up on a chair afterward half unconscious on a chair as Cornette cut a promo afterward celebrating their win.

2. The Fantastics vs. Midnight Express – NWA World Wide, April 1988

The Rock and Roll Express and the Midnight Express had one of the best-drawing feuds in tag team history, but The Fantastics matched up just as well against the Midnight Express as anyone. The Midnight Express were the longest-reigning US Tag Team champs in NWA history, but lost in this classic that was taped for NWA Worldwide in April 1988.The Wrestling Observer rated the match 5 stars.

3. Clash of Champions IV: Midnight Express vs. Barry Windham/Ric Flair, best 2-out-of-3 falls, Dec. 1988

The Midnight Express were babyfaces for a short period, and also held the NWA World and US tag team titles at the same time. They had won the titles from Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson in a rushed feud and match in Philadelphia earlier that year. Blanchard and Anderson had signed with the WWF and were on their way out of town. Fans have long lamented never getting what would have been an amazing long-term feud. One small consolation was a 2-out-of-3 falls match to see who the best champions were in the NWA. Barry Windham (US Champion) and Ric Flair (World Champion) were all that remained of the Horsemen (Windham and manager JJ Dillon would leave for the WWF soon after this match). The Horsemen won with some nefarious tactics, which earned the ire of Jim Cornette as the show was going off the air. The match was a feature of six masters of their craft, and Eaton was front and center.

4. Clash of Champions XV: Ric Flair (World Champion) vs. Bobby Eaton (TV Champion), June 1991

After Stan Lane and Jim Cornette left WCW in 1990, Bobby Eaton remained as a tag specialist and singles wrestler. He had a very solid run as WCW TV Champion as a babyface, and main evented the 15th Clash of Champions in June 1991 against Ric Flair. WWE had made the match available on YouTube

5. Starrcade 1986: Midnight Express vs. Road Warriors Scaffold Match, Nov. 1986

Night of the Skywalkers was the theme for Starrcade 1986, and the scaffold match between the Road Warriors and Midnight Express was the single match most associated with Bobby Eaton. The Midnights had a similar scaffold match against the Rock and Roll Express in Mid-South. The match is famous for Animal and Hawk throwing watermelons off the top of the scaffold to show how dangerous the height was, the “training” video of Cornette screaming at Eaton and Condrey for not standing on the scaffold due to their fear of heights, and Cornette blowing out both of his knees when he landed bad after falling from the bottom of the scaffold with his knees straight.

Warner Bros. Career posted a job listing for a new Director in Scripted Development and Programming. While giving details about the position, Warner Bros. also revealed that AEW is working on several new series and projects.

“Starting in August 2021, AEW is expanding from one two-hour weekly live show to a second weekly live one-hour show as well as adding quarterly specials. AEW Announced Projects

In a media conference, AEW’s Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes gave few details regarding Rampage. The match itself, being that’s a one-hour program.”

AEW also revealed that the reality tv series Rhodes To the Top was in development in March. The project will show the behind-the-scenes life of Rhodes and his wife, Brandi. AEW hasn’t released more information about the show.

Another NXT Superstar Contract Close to Expiring Soon

0

NXT has another superstar contract set to expire.

Wrestling Inc’s Raj Giri reported that NXT superstar Adam Cole’s contract would expire after Summerslam. Fightful Select reports today that NXT superstar Pete Dunne’s contract is expiring soon, saying, “Fightful Select has learned that Pete Dunne’s NXT contract is also up soon, with one source also pointing to “after Summerslam weekend,” though we haven’t confirmed that date with Dunne or WWE as of yet.”

Fightful Selects also reports, “The situation was similar to that of Adam Cole’s but haven’t been given any additional details.”

While Dunne’s contract may be expiring soon, Fightful Select didn’t say if WWE will re-sign Dunne or if he wants to leave.

Dunne’s Current Storyline in NXT

On last week’s NXT, Dunne teamed with Oney Lorcan to defeat Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher. After the match, Dunne and Lorcan reunited with the returning Ridge Holland. On Tuesday, Dunne officially formed a stable with Lorcan and Holland and said, “We’re the most dangerous men in NXT.”

For now, Dunne seems to be in NXT’s plans along with his group. However, as Fightful Select reports, WWE will have to figure out Dunne’s contract situation.
