AJ Styles Pitches Surprise Return Plan for Chelsea Green

Chelsea Green’s WWE Women’s Championship situation has already become one of the more intriguing stories on the women’s roster, and now AJ Styles has provided some insight into how she’s handling the setback.

Green suffered a broken orbital bone less than a week after winning the interim WWE Women’s Championship in a ladder match. On the following SmackDown, Nick Aldis gave her 30 days to receive medical clearance or risk being stripped of the title.

While temporarily working as a Performance Center coach and NXT producer, Styles said he recently crossed paths with Green at the Performance Center and found her doing okay despite the circumstances.

He also believes WWE could have an interesting solution waiting for her return:

They’re going to throw a mask on her, I’m sure of it. I actually did get to see her, I believe she lives in Florida, I saw her at the Performance Center. She’s doing okay, she’s not mad about the situation, but it is what it is. She said she has some bad luck

Styles then made a broader point about how wrestlers can sometimes become even more popular when they fight through adversity, pointing to Becky Lynch’s rise following her facial injury and praising Liv Morgan’s toughness for repeatedly returning after getting hurt.

To me, when I see someone get hurt and they go ‘Nope, we’re still doing this,’ to me, it makes them a bigger babyface. Becky Lynch became a super duper star because she got punched in the face… She became a star because of it, because that picture of her all bloodied up going ‘Come on’ was so freaking awesome. Liv Morgan is one of the toughest people I know. She gets busted up all the time and keeps coming back.

For now, Green’s recovery remains the priority, but if Styles is right about her returning in a mask, WWE could have an opportunity to turn an unfortunate injury into an entirely new chapter for her character.
