Becky Lynch did not go off script on Monday. She was reading it.
Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the line about Liv Morgan not being the greatest women’s champion to have slept with Dominik Mysterio, since removed from the WWE Raw replay, was written into the show.
From what we were told, the line was not Lynch going impromptu as it was on the script and Levesque and others knew about it before she said it.
That changes what the edit is. It was not a performer catching WWE out with an ad-lib the company then had to tidy up. It was written, approved by Paul Levesque and others, delivered as intended, broadcast live to the audience, and then taken out.
The earlier edit to Bron Breakker’s bloodied face at Night of Champions was a WWE call, and some coverage of this week’s cut has described it as WWE removing its own line rather than the platform imposing a standard. Neither company has commented.
The list of changes is also longer than three. Breakker’s blood was blurred and alternate camera angles used. Brock Lesnar’s shirt was digitally cleaned up on the July 13 replay, with different angles cut in to reduce how often it appeared. A middle-finger exchange between Lesnar and Oba Femi was removed. Raquel Rodriguez’s bloodied face after winning the Women’s Intercontinental Championship was edited. Crowd chants have been replaced with cleaner ones.
The segment itself continues to pay off. Lynch is chasing Morgan’s Women’s World Championship, and Stephanie Vaquer returned during the same segment to put Morgan down.
