Eric Young is expected to return to WWE in a player/coach capacity in NXT, according to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio.
Eric Young expected to be a ‘player/coach’ in NXT.
TNA confirmed Young’s release on Wednesday in a press release, with Fightful Select subsequently reporting that WWE sources expected his return given his strong relationship with Triple H. Alvarez’s report adds the specific role being discussed — a hybrid in-ring and coaching position within the developmental brand.
Young, 46, debuted in TNA as a member of Team Canada in 2004 and went on to become one of the promotion’s most decorated performers, winning multiple world, tag team, and X Division titles. He first signed with WWE in 2016, was released during the COVID-19 pandemic cuts in April 2020, and returned to Impact Wrestling before departing in late 2022 to re-sign with WWE. During that second WWE run he never appeared on television. He returned to TNA in mid-2023 and remained until his 2026 exit.
