Dave Meltzer thinks Brock Rechsteiner’s football career is nearly over, and that WWE is the landing spot.
Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez talked about the son of Scott Steiner on Wrestling Observer Radio after the NFL hit him with a six-game suspension.
I expect he will be WWE bound within a couple months.
The NFL announced last Thursday that Rechsteiner will sit out the first six games of the 2026 season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy. He can still practice through camp and play the full preseason. The ban only kicks in once New Orleans trims to 53 players on August 30.
Meltzer’s read is that the suspension mostly formalizes what was already likely. Rechsteiner went undrafted out of Jacksonville State, earned a Saints contract in May by impressing as a tryout invite at rookie minicamp, and was fighting through a crowded receiver room before any of this. Meltzer expects him to be among the cuts.
He sees the same shape as Bron Breakker, Rechsteiner’s cousin, who went undrafted, spent time in Baltimore’s camp, did not stick, and got fast-tracked once he committed to wrestling. Meltzer thinks Rechsteiner would get the same treatment.
None of this would be a swerve. Rechsteiner signed a WWE NIL deal in February 2025 and has said openly that wrestling is the plan once football ends. He has described Breakker, who he trains and fishes with back in Georgia, telling him to ride football as far as it goes and then make the jump.
