Chad Gable will defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Rey Mysterio on Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, according to a preview posted by Raw General Manager Adam Pearce. The show airs live from KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York, on Netflix.
Gable won the title from Penta at SummerSlam for his first singles championship in WWE. Mysterio accepted the challenge after Gable praised him during a backstage segment on the August 10 Raw, calling him the greatest luchador of all time and saying it would be an honor to defend the title against him.
Two more first round matches in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship No. 1 Contender’s Tournament are also on the card. Dragon Lee faces El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., and Rey Fenix takes on El Fiscal, with the winner earning a shot at Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship on the September 14 episode of Raw in Mexico City.
Sol Ruca and Lyra Valkyria are also set for a singles match, their first meeting since Ruca retained the Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Valkyria on the June 8 Raw.
Reigns himself is confirmed to appear on Monday’s show as well, per Pearce’s preview.
