Charlotte Flair has checked off nearly every box WWE has to offer, but there’s one kind of storyline she still hasn’t gotten a shot at. She isn’t shy about wanting it.
Speaking with Ilona Maher on “Power Hour,” Flair was asked whether anything was in the works after previously floating the idea of an on-screen romance. She couldn’t confirm any concrete plans, but made clear she’s still hoping the idea takes hold somewhere down the line.
I don’t know. I put it out in the universe. Let’s see if it catches something.
Flair pointed out that in her entire WWE run, she’s never once been paired with a male performer, not even for a passing flirtatious moment, and said even something that simple would be a fun change of pace.
I’ve just never been paired with a male or ever had even, like, a ‘Hey.’ So, it’d just be so fun for me.
When Maher jokingly asked whether WWE could make a romance angle a condition of Maher’s own signing, Flair admitted she’s looking for the same kind of spark, whether on screen or in her actual life.
Me too, just like a storyline. Just like a storyline in life.
Flair also explained the appeal behind the idea. She’s aware some fans feel no on-screen partner could ever measure up to The Queen, and while she embraces that independent image, she thinks a romance storyline could reveal a warmer, more playful side of her character that WWE audiences rarely get to see.
A couple of my fans were like, ‘Dude, there’s no one good enough for The Queen.’ And I was like, ‘That’s the greatest line.’ We’re so independent, we don’t need a male. But I just thought it’d be fun to show that, like, ‘Hey, I’m not so cold. I can be flirty.’
Having spent most of her career presented as dominant and untouchable, a romance angle would give Flair the chance to peel back some of that armor, if WWE ever decides to pull the trigger on it.
