Sometimes, the biggest turning points in a WWE Superstar’s career can come from moments they never saw coming.
That appears to be exactly what happened with Chelsea Green, as her husband Matt Cardona believes the injury gave her an opportunity she might not have otherwise received.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Cardona admitted that his initial reaction to Green getting hurt probably sounded strange, especially coming from her husband.
Oh yeah. First, I mean, Chelsea Green finally becoming the women’s champion. And I told her this. I said, ‘I’m actually glad you got hurt.’
Cardona wasn’t happy that Green suffered the injury. Instead, he was referring to what came next.
The injury led to an emotional promo from Green on SmackDown, and Cardona believes that moment allowed her to show WWE fans a side they hadn’t seen enough of during her comedy-driven run.
’Cause you were able to cut that heartfelt promo, which I think makes her a made woman right now in WWE. I think everyone knows how entertaining she is, but she’s so much more than that. And I think that promo on Friday really cemented that.
Cardona also made it clear that his feelings toward Gunther have changed after what happened with Green.
And as for Gunther, I had no problem with that guy. You know, I have no relationship with him. We say hi and bye at work. That’s about it. But if you disrespect my wife, then I have a problem.
Now Green has a much bigger issue to deal with. She has 30 days to receive medical clearance, or she could be forced to relinquish the WWE Women’s Championship.
Still, Cardona believes something significant came from the injury. Green got the opportunity to step away from the comedy, show her emotional range and prove she can carry a serious moment.
And according to her husband, that may have officially made Chelsea Green a “made woman” in WWE.
