Chelsea Green believes she has the fans to thank for the piece of history she’ll carry forever.
A couple of years after being crowned the first-ever WWE Women’s United States Champion at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Green looked back on how it happened. Speaking with Kat Siggers on Spotlight, she credited the crowd for making the decision for WWE.
I won it because the fans got so behind me that they forced WWE to make that decision. Like truly. I felt like I didn’t just win it for myself. I won it for all the people that were cheering for me. The moment that I went to hit my finisher in the ring, like you can see it, feel it, and hear it if you go back and watch those clips. Now, because they pushed so hard for me and we collectively did it, that can never be erased from the history books.
For Green, being first is the part that lasts.
Until the day that I die, I will always be the first-ever United States Women’s Champion, and I love that. When I think about the packages that you see on TV for the titles, they have to include me because I was the first. It’s an exciting moment for me in my career because I knew there was going to be times when I might win championships and this and that, but you always think like, what are you going to be remembered for? But that’s one thing that I know I will be remembered for.
WWE introduced the Women’s US Title in November 2024, holding a tournament to crown the first champion. Green won it by beating Michin, kicking off a run that turned a comedic underdog act into a genuine piece of company history.
She isn’t done chasing gold, either. Green is booked in the five-way ladder match for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam, standing in for the injured Rhea Ripley.
