Chelsea Green’s run as Interim WWE Women’s Champion has already hit a major obstacle, but her title reign reportedly isn’t going anywhere.
Green suffered a broken orbital bone during last week’s episode of SmackDown while competing against Fatal Influence in a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match.
The injury came less than a week after she captured the Interim Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2026 Night Two.
Despite the setback, WWE reportedly has no plans to take the championship away from Green.
Chelsea Green Expected Back On WWE TV Soon
Per the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Green is expected to remain Interim Women’s Champion while recovering from the injury.
There is also optimism that she won’t disappear from WWE programming for an extended period. Green is expected to return to television relatively soon, allowing her championship storyline to continue even though she won’t immediately be cleared for physical competition.
Her actual in-ring comeback is expected to take longer.
That gives WWE the option of keeping Green involved in segments and storylines without putting her at unnecessary risk while the orbital fracture heals.
