World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk sat down with Sam Roberts and Megan Morant on WWE Now ahead of WrestleMania 42 and delivered a series of candid takes on his career, his legacy, and his WrestleMania opponent Roman Reigns.
Punk Names His All-Time Best Match
With his career now immortalized as the focus of the WWE 2K26 Showcase mode, Punk was asked to pick his personal favorite from a catalog of marquee bouts. His answer bypassed the obvious choices.
Punk pointed to his February 25, 2013 No. 1 Contender's match against John Cena on Raw, calling it a pure contest above everything else he has done.
"I think just as a pure contest... I think that match means a whole lot more to me. I think it's the best match I've ever had," Punk said.
The match is one of several historical encounters included in the WWE 2K26 CM Punk Showcase, which spans more than two decades of his career and also features fantasy matchups against Stone Cold Steve Austin and Eddie Guerrero.
Punk on Still Standing Alongside Rey Mysterio
Punk also reflected on the fact that he and Rey Mysterio, who faced each other at Armageddon 2008, are still active and competing alongside one another in 2026.
"It really just kind of shows like the staying power. I look at him as one of the greats. So if I'm still side by side with him... those are the moments that make everything looking back at it kind of mind-blowing," he said.
Punk Flips the Script on Roman Reigns
When the conversation turned to Reigns and their heated rivalry heading into WrestleMania 42, Punk was dismissive of his challenger's grievances and turned the argument back on him entirely.
"For everything he says he's mad about and he hates me. Well, then well, why'd you let me back in, man? You did it to your damn self," Punk said.
Punk defends the World Heavyweight Championship against Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns in the Night 2 main event of WrestleMania 42 on April 19, 2026 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
