CM Punk & Cody Rhodes Win SNME Match After Surprise Interference

ByAnutosh BajpaiProfessional Wrestling Journalist

Nick Aldis is back.

The latest Saturday Night’s Main Event featured the WWE Champion CM Punk and his SummerSlam challenger Cody Rhodes working together. The duo went up against the team of Gunther and Sami Zayn with the stipulation that the latter two would be added to the PPV match if they won the bout tonight.

The high stakes led to a physical match that turned into pure chaos towards the end. Cody looked ready to get the pin on Gunther with a Cross Rhodes, but Zayn shoved Punk right into the cover, taking out the referee Charles Robinson with it.

Cody then ended up taking his tag team partner out by accident when Gunther ducked during a springboard attempt. This set the stage for the Ring General to introduce the WWE title belt into the mix and he looked all set to pick up the victory after hitting the American Nightmare with it.

As the former Imperium leader went for the pin with a new referee in place, however, Nick Aldis came out of nowhere and pulled the official out of the ring. Aldis went on to take Gunther out with the championship belt, setting the stage for Punk to hit the GTS and get Cody into the cover position for the victory.

A match between the WWE authority figure and Gunther is almost confirmed for SummerSlam after tonight’s events. It’d be interesting to see where that leaves Sami Zayn and if the former WWE Champion gets a match of his own at the PPV.
