CM Punk has a new tattoo on his leg in memory of his late dog Larry, and it puts Larry alongside the dog belonging to the artist who did it.
The piece reimagines the two dogs as the alien from E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. Photographs were shared by the Instagram account @spud.the.cryptid, which is run by the tattooist for their own dog, Spud.
The account explained where the idea came from.
“@cmpunk and @theajmendez’s pup, Larry, was the only dog i’ve ever looked at and felt like ‘yeah i’m pretty sure that’s spud’s soulmate’ so it felt pretty special and full circle to have Larry’s dad come get a tattoo from Spud’s dad of the two little cryptid aliens”
Spud, it turns out, took to him.
“i never know how spud is going to act around new people (especially men) but the way she was immediately letting him pet her and play says a lot!! spud even got zoomies which was actually crazy because it seems like she only does that when she is somewhere she feels very safe. such a sweet and fun day. larry forever!!!”
Punk has not commented on the tattoo publicly.
Larry died on December 2. Punk and AJ Lee had rescued him from the no-kill shelter PAWS Chicago in 2015, after he had been returned there three times by previous homes. He was a fixture backstage at WWE shows and became widely known during Punk’s rivalry with Drew McIntyre in 2024, to the point of getting his own merchandise.
It is at least the third tattoo Punk has had done in Larry’s memory since. He talked about the first in a WWE vlog in March, explaining that the paw prints now on his torso are Larry’s, and that he had them placed on his chest because that is where Larry would stand and stare at him when he wanted to go for a walk. A portrait of Larry, with a heart behind him, followed in May.
Punk also raised $51,000 for PAWS Chicago earlier this year through a campaign with the Chicago restaurant Piece, which sold a pizza named The Larry through January and early February with the proceeds going to the shelter.
