It took one nasty comment to get CM Punk off Twitter for good.
Speaking with ESPN New York, the Undisputed WWE Champion explained that the final straw came while he was laid up with a shattered foot, scrolling through replies he never needed to see.
The thing that got me to abandon Twitter was I shattered my foot, and I just saw somebody say they were happy about it. It didn’t hurt my feelings. I just went, ‘Oh, this is not a comment that I would have seen if I didn’t look at Twitter, so I’m just gonna stop looking at this.'
The injury he’s referring to is believed to be the one he suffered on the June 1, 2022 episode of AEW Rampage, just days after winning his first AEW World Championship. Punk landed awkwardly on the barricade during a dive on his entrance and was sidelined for months.
The takeaway for Punk wasn’t that the comment stung. It was that he had complete control over whether he ever saw it, and he chose not to.
Punk is currently gearing up to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam on August 1 and 2 in Minneapolis.
