CM Punk has another screen credit on the way.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that Punk filmed a role for the second season of the ABC crime drama R.J. Decker. His part has not been disclosed. The show shoots mostly around Wilmington, North Carolina, with some work in Florida, and Punk filmed his portion in Florida.
The series comes from Carl Hiaasen’s 1987 novel Double Whammy. Scott Speedman plays a disgraced newspaper photographer who leaves prison and sets up as a private investigator in South Florida, taking on cases that range from odd to outright strange with help from his journalist ex, her police detective wife and a benefactor from his past who could put him back inside.
It landed well. The March premiere drew more than 11 million viewers across platforms inside six days and was ABC’s strongest 10pm drama debut in over five years. The network renewed it in May.
Season two starts from a body. Emi Ochoa’s father Victor was killed in the closing moments of the first season finale, and the new run is built around working out who did it. It premieres Tuesday at 10 PM ET on ABC and streams on Hulu.
Punk has kept busy away from the ring. He voiced Zebro Zerbowski in Zootopia 2 alongside Roman Reigns, appeared in four episodes of Netflix’s Revival and played a deputy in AMC’s Night Patrol.
The day job comes first this week. Punk defends the Undisputed WWE Championship against Sami Zayn on Friday’s SmackDown in Mexico City, in the same city and the same weekend that AAA runs night two of Triplemania 34.
