CM Punk has been absent from WWE television since the RAW after WrestleMania 42. Despite rumors regarding tensions with the WWE management backstage, a new report by WrestleVotes has stated that his return is expected to take place on the upcoming July 6 episode of Monday Night RAW in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
Moreover, the report also hinted at his opponent for this year’s SummerSlam, taking place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The outlet stated that he will face Cody Rhodes, and the plan has been in place for some time now. The mega showdown was teased during Punk’s last televised appearance and could be seen as the seed planted for the blockbuster match for The Biggest Party of the Summer.
Furthermore, according to SmackDown spoilers for the July 3 episode, Rhodes faced Jey Uso and won the match, thereby becoming the No.1 contender for Sami Zayn’s Undisputed WWE title. The match will take place on the July 6 episode of RAW, where Punk is speculated to return.
A likely possibility could see The American Nightmare regain the title and end Zayn’s reign just a week after it began. This could see him being confronted by CM Punk, who would make his return and confront Rhodes, setting the stage for their reported match and making it for the Undisputed title. With the road to SummerSlam officially underway, it will be interesting to see CM Punk back in the fold.
