Cody Rhodes says pro wrestling has never been in a better spot. He wants fans to enjoy it instead of fighting about it online.
Rhodes made the comments in an interview with Denise Salcedo while promoting “Street Fighter.” The film opened in theaters on October 16, with Rhodes playing Guile.
Part of the conversation focused on wrestlers landing bigger roles in Hollywood. Rhodes then pointed to one social platform where fans argue all the time.
And I wish they knew those arguments only take place on that platform.
He then made his case for where the industry stands today.
We are in the best place the business has ever been. Every metric, minus metrics that mattered in the late ’90s, is up.
Rhodes said he isn’t knocking fans who argue online.
I’m just saying enjoy it.
He said longtime fans and wrestlers will remember when wrestling wasn’t something everyone could share. In his view, that has changed.
Mainstream wrestling doesn’t have to fight for mainstream anymore.
Rhodes also credited WWE President Nick Khan and Triple H for putting WWE talent in bigger entertainment spaces.
Nick Khan as a president and Triple H as an executive and a creative leader, we’ve put ourselves in the right place. I don’t think we’re in the rooms anymore where we feel like we shouldn’t be. We’re supposed to be in them.
He also borrowed a line from John Cena.
And at the end of the day, if we execute and continue to do, as John Cena would say, good work, we’ll be in more rooms like this.
