Dominik Mysterio got one of the most brutal welcomes imaginable to WWE television, and according to him, his own father made sure he had no idea it was coming.
On the September 30, 2019 episode of Raw, Brock Lesnar interrupted Rey Mysterio mid-promo and attacked him before turning his attention to Dominik at ringside.
Speaking on the Six Feet Under Podcast, Dominik recalled that his father warned him in advance that he’d be taking a beating in the segment, but deliberately refused to say who would be delivering it, telling him he wouldn’t find out until he was already out there cutting the promo.
Dominik said he had no idea what was coming until Lesnar’s music hit. He described the experience as an entirely different level of physicality compared to anything he’d encountered before, recalling being thrown around and slammed hard into the ring post and the ground.
So actually, funny story again. My dad, not being a good dad, leading up to that, he was like, ‘You’re gonna get your a** beat.’ and I was like, ‘Oh, cool, by who?’ He’s like, ‘I’m not gonna tell you. I’m not gonna tell you until I’m cutting my promo out there.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, fine, sure, whatever.’ And then sure enough, my dad goes out, and then Brock’s music hits. And I pucker. I didn’t know it was gonna happen.
He just did what he did, and it was an absolutely completely different beast with him…. He ragdolled me. I’ve been through some sh*t. Ragdolled me, and then me in the post, body slammed me on the ground.
At the time, Dominik had already begun training but hadn’t had his first official match yet. That came almost a year later, against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam 2020. He said his only real instruction going into the Lesnar segment was to sit down and let Lesnar handle the rest, which Lesnar did.
I was already trained at that time, but I didn’t have my first match until Seth (Rollins) in SummerSlam 2020….. I was told to sit down and then he (Lesnar) would do the rest. And he clearly does.
The segment ended with Lesnar standing tall over a beaten Rey, while Dominik was stretchered away.
