Drew McIntyre’s time away from WWE has now reached a point where his return is becoming a bigger question, especially with the former WWE Champion back in the United States and continuing to prepare inside the ring.
McIntyre has been absent since WrestleMania 42, largely because of several movie projects outside WWE. Ringside News previously reported on how his growing Hollywood schedule contributed to the extended absence, while his agent maintained that WWE remained his priority despite his acting commitments.
After finishing those projects, McIntyre returned to the United States in August. However, there were still no creative plans confirmed for his WWE television comeback.
That situation remains unchanged. During a Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp revealed that he recently saw McIntyre at a Pro Wrestling Symphony event in Nashville, where Drew said he genuinely misses wrestling and wished he could have participated in WWE’s South American tour.
Well, I saw him like a few days ago. He quite literally pulled up in his pickup truck to the Nashville Pro Wrestling Symphony show that I wrestled on, and he said that he really missed wrestling and he really wished that he could have worked a South American tour. He said that he enjoyed those. He’s not really used to being off this long, but he’s been working on, like several movies since WrestleMania. It’s been been like five months that he’s been out now, but he’s still working out in the ring. He looks great, looks huge, talked about how a lot of the work that he’s been doing has been working on basically joint space in his body and stuff like that. But he didn’t give me a timetable or a return date or anything like that.
So while McIntyre is training, looks physically ready, and clearly wants to wrestle again, there is still no return date or timetable. WWE also has yet to indicate when his television comeback will happen.
After roughly five months away, the only question now is when WWE decides the time is right.
