El Hijo del Vikingo was recently pulled from a scheduled AAA Latin American Championship defense on WWE NXT after suffering a legitimate injury while preparing for the match.
As per a report from PWInsider, WWE removed him from the June 30 taping so the injury could be evaluated.
Vikingo had been booked to defend the title against E.K. Prosper on the June 30 episode of NXT on The CW, but the match never happened.
Instead, WWE aired a backstage segment in which Keanu Carver attacked Vikingo, with Carver claiming in storyline that he wanted to stop Prosper from earning a championship opportunity.
Carver then faced Prosper in singles action, and Prosper picked up the win in the rescheduled bout.
Title Reign And Faction Hang In The Balance
Vikingo has held the AAA Latin American Championship since winning it at AAA Noches de Los Grandes in May. The injury leaves the status of that reign uncertain while he is evaluated.
He is also aligned with Omos and Dorian Roldán as part of the El Ojo faction that formed following Omos’ return to AAA, a storyline that now has a key member sidelined.
This is not the first time Vikingo has dealt with a physical setback, as he previously suffered an apparent injury during an AAA match. The timing is notable given his heavy cross-promotional schedule, which recently saw him capture the AAA Mega Championship ahead of Worlds Collide.
