Elijah Holyfield is being pulled off the NXT track and sent to Mexico. On the August 9 episode of WWE LFG, Shawn Michaels called the son of boxing legend Evander Holyfield into his office and told him his next stop is Lucha Libre AAA, where he will work under The Undertaker.
Michaels framed the reassignment as a way to get a stalled prospect active again, telling Holyfield he had always been viewed as a “very valued prospect” who had waited longer than expected for a real opportunity.
“Maybe you’ve had some setbacks with the injury, but an opportunity has arose for us to get you into the game. You are going to have the opportunity to go down to AAA and show the world who Elijah Holyfield truly is,” Michaels said.
“You will be meeting up with your old trainer, the Undertaker. The possibilities down there are going to be unlimited for you. Congratulations, and thank you very much for always giving it your best.”
Back Under His First WWE Mentor
The pairing isn’t new. Undertaker coached Holyfield through season one of LFG in 2025, then sat out season three to concentrate on AAA, which WWE acquired in 2025.
He put a title on that job last week, telling the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast that in layman’s terms he is AAA’s head of creative. That sits alongside Rey Mysterio’s on-screen general manager role, announced in May.
The LFG Pipeline To Mexico Is Moving Fast
Holyfield is the second prospect routed south this season. Drake Morreaux got the same conversation from Michaels on the May 3 episode, taped his debut at AAA’s Verano de Escándalo shows in July, and surfaced on the August 8 AAA broadcast attacking Psycho Clown.
The next major date on the promotion’s calendar is Triplemania 34, which runs across two nights: Friday, September 11 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and Sunday, September 13 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. The Las Vegas show is the first Triplemania ever staged in the United States.
Holyfield has been working WWE Evolve in the meantime, winning his in-ring debut there in just over a minute in June after an injury cut his second LFG season short. No date has been announced for his AAA debut.
