Bron Breakker was supposed to be world champion by now. Eric Bischoff has not forgotten it.
Speaking on 83 Weeks, Bischoff said the injury that took Breakker out before WrestleMania 42 wrecked what WWE had lined up for him.
I’m so disappointed that we haven’t seen more Bron. I said it when it happened, I think the injury prior to WrestleMania really turned a lot of creative plans upside down. I firmly believe that. I thought Bron was getting ready for the focus, the push. Injury, whatever.
He is not guessing. WWE Unreal has since shown the creative team laying out a plan for Breakker to win the men’s Royal Rumble and take the world title at WrestleMania 42. He drew number two, was jumped by a hooded attacker on the way to the ring, and was clotheslined out by Oba Femi almost immediately.
The following week he flipped the announce desk on Raw. A hernia he had reportedly been carrying got worse, and he needed emergency surgery in early February.
Everything moved without him. Seth Rollins faced Gunther at WrestleMania instead, Breakker returned only to cost Rollins that match, and Rollins beat him at Night of Champions. Since then he has been in The Vision, holding the World Tag Team Championship with Austin Theory and working with Alpha Academy. It is a long way from a title reign, and reports earlier this summer said Breakker himself was frustrated with how the year had gone.
Bischoff thinks the reset is already on its way in the form of Brock Rechsteiner, Scott Steiner’s son and Breakker’s cousin, who Fightful reports WWE intends to sign once his football career ends.
But now with his cousin coming in, and a chance to really, hopefully they lean into the Steiner brothers brand a little bit and lose the gimmick names and pay homage to two of the best tag team wrestlers in the history of the sport, in my opinion.
If there’s a version 2.0 of the Steiner brothers, I’ll be first in line for a ticket.
That is not imminent. Rechsteiner signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent and was suspended for the first six games of the season last week.
I feel bad for Brock, because it’s such a great opportunity. You’ve got to kind of think, you’re trying to make the roster, you’re a rookie, and before you even make the team you’re suspended for six games.
Bischoff worked with both Steiners in WCW. He said he enjoyed working with Rick more than Scott, while calling the pair great and Scott unique.
