Former WWE star John Morrison is drawing a striking comparison between the two men who’ve shaped the modern wrestling business and the biggest difference, he says, comes down to character rather than power.
Speaking with Sportskeeda, Morrison said Tony Khan reminds him of Vince McMahon in terms of resources and unchecked authority, noting Khan “probably could have done anything he wanted” given his wealth.
As far as Tony Khan goes, you know I would compare Tony to Vince a lot, like Tony Khan probably could have done anything he wanted, anything, you know?
That’s the freedom you get with that amount of money, but he’s a wrestling fan and decided he wanted to work in the business of professional wrestling and he also decided he wanted to work really hard because he does work really hard. He’s at all the tapings, and I sometimes think he’s a lot like Vince except with a good heart, if you know what I mean.
The comments came as part of a broader reflection on WWE’s power structure post-Vince. Morrison contrasted the McMahon era, when Vince faced no real “checks and balances” and could greenlight extravagant spending on a whim, with Triple H’s current reality under WWE’s parent company TKO.
According to Morrison, Triple H simply doesn’t have that same autonomy, corporate oversight means even six-figure decisions aren’t his to make unilaterally.
Morrison, now competing outside WWE and AEW, recently added another accolade to his résumé, capturing the PWR Heavyweight Championship at Pro Wrestling Rebellion’s inaugural Kranti event on September 23 in New Delhi.
