Grayson Waller told the NXT men they were being outworked by the women. Je’Von Evans is not arguing.
Waller returned on the July 28 NXT and opened the show with a promo aimed at almost everyone. He called the men’s division soft, lazy and complacent, said only around ten percent of the NXT roster was ready for a call-up, and added that the entire ten percent were women. He said the women’s roster was running laps around the men.
Speaking to The Wrestling Classic, Evans was asked whether that was fair.
Oh, I mean, he was being real. He was being honest, you feel me? I feel like the roster, they’re trying to do their thing, but the women are going crazy right now, especially in NXT, you feel me?
He also thinks there is a deadline attached.
And so, I really hope that woke up the men’s roster because if it didn’t, then Grayson is going to have to take over and become champion. And I feel like nobody really wants that.
Waller’s promo did not stop at the roster. He described the last two years of his own career as an embarrassment, said he spent a year carrying his former tag partner Austin Theory, called him the Marty Jannetty of the team, and said his run alongside The New Day was a funeral for his own career. He told Tony D’Angelo he only reached the top because everyone else left, and dismissed Cruz Montana’s TNA run as being the best pick-up basketball player at the YMCA.
He was cut off mid-promo. His microphone went dead, he turned to a camera instead, and NXT went to a break.
The answers have been coming since. D’Angelo and Montana confronted him on consecutive weeks. Myles Borne won the NXT Tag Team Championship with Tavion Heights on the August 4 show to become a double champion, then aimed a line straight back at Waller.
Waller made his own goal plain. He wants the NXT Championship, pointing to the names who have held it and what it did for them.
