Getting called up to WWE’s main roster is a dream for many NXT Superstars. Still, one former NXT talent wasn’t convinced he was ready for the opportunity when it came to him in early 2026.

While speaking appearing on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Je’Von Evans explained why he didn’t feel fully confident about his potential on WWE’s main roster.

No, no, not at all,” Evans said when asked if he felt ready for his January 2026 call-up. “Because I wanted to learn in NXT. Of course, I wanted to defeat Oba [Femi] for the title, but I wanted to learn how to carry a company in NXT. I wanted to be the guy. It’s just gonna happen. I’m gonna work towards it, but I know that one day I’m gonna be the guy in WWE. So I feel like if I were to learn how to carry a brand, and worry about views and in tickets and stuff like that. If I were to learn that in NXT, then when I get to that moment, get to that spot here in the main roster, then I know how to do it and what to do.

Evans, a former indie wrestler, marked his WWE NXT in-ring TV debut in April 2024. Over the next 20 months, he then challenged for the NXT Championship on a handful of occasions, with the final one pitting him against Oba Femi in December 2025. Weeks later, Evans officially moved up to the Raw brand.

So far, Evans’ main roster run has yielded a pair of WWE Intercontinental Championship matches and an impressive showing in the Men’s Royal Rumble. Currently, he finds himself in the midst of a feud with Big Cass, who returned to WWE earlier this month.
