John Cena believes the reaction to his Gunther match was perfect.
The majority of the fans were unhappy with the Cenation Leader tapping out in his retirement match, after building a career on the motto of never giving up. A number of his peers have defended this decision since then, however, explaining why it was the right ending to the legendary career.
The 17-time world champion addressed the criticism of this choice during an appearance on Fan Expo New Orleans this week. He first thanked the fans for being vocal with their opinion:
“Thank you for being vocal enough to express how you felt because every moment can be a teachable moment. My job is to try to put together a story that I think you all will enjoy. When there’s critical opinion out there, I’m all ears. I don’t ignore the critics, I’m thankful for them for DC and every match I had before that."
Been My Story: John Cena
John Cena then mentioned how the reaction to the whole thing perfectly parallels his career in wrestling. He said that the difference of opinion has been his story for the longest time:
"I guess kind of parallel to my career, I think it was a perfect end because a whole lot of people thought it sucked, and a whole lot of people thought it was special. And that’s kind of been my story for 23 years. So I thought it was perfect.”
The former champion has remained busy in his life after saying goodbye to in-ring action. You can check out details of a new Netflix project he is working on here.
