John Cena: ‘No Guilt Nor Shame’ Over Vince McMahon Friendship

John Cena is standing by Vince McMahon. In a new interview with The Guardian, Cena said he has no regrets about his relationship with his former boss.

I have no guilt nor shame about my friendship and my relationship with Vince McMahon, you’re obviously going to put this in [your] article.

He added that loyalty does not require perfection.

It’s OK to love somebody when they’re not perfect.

The interview describes McMahon as a mentor who gave Cena a second family during his early years on the road. It is not the first time Cena has spoken up for him.

McMahon resigned from WWE parent company TKO in January 2024. His exit came after former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit accusing him of sexual misconduct. McMahon has denied the allegations, and the case has since moved to private arbitration.

Cena retired from in-ring competition in December 2025, losing to Gunther in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He spoke to the outlet while promoting Matchbox: The Movie, which premieres on Apple TV on Oct. 9.
