Killer Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux are positioning themselves as the ones who saw WWE’s mass releases coming. The former WWE stars say they read the room long before the company’s latest wave of cuts hit, with Kross claiming he warned the locker room and Bordeaux stopping herself mid-thought before she said too much.
The couple spoke during an appearance on 1010XL: Jacksonville’s Sports Radio, where they were asked about WWE’s current approach to managing its roster and the volume of departures this year.
According to Kross, the recent cuts were no surprise at all.
No, because I saw this coming and I warned everyone. We did, but we didn’t tell everyone. Why wasn’t the locker room together? I made sure everyone knew exactly what was going on,” Kross said.
Bordeaux echoed the sentiment, framing the releases as unfortunate but predictable given the current business landscape. She caught herself before getting too deep into it.
Yeah. We’re not surprised. I mean, it’s unfortunate. Look, the model has to compliment everyone. I mean, I shouldn’t even get into this, but you guys see what’s going on. I don’t need to paraphrase anything that’s happening. You see what’s happening. What are you gonna do?” Bordeaux said.
Authenticity As The “Highest Currency”
Kross also touched on the success he and Bordeaux have found since leaving WWE, pointing to their connection with fans as a driving force behind their momentum. He believes audiences are craving something the modern product often lacks.
“Having a relationship and a connection that’s authentic with the audience. It’s very easy. Everyone’s been saying, you know, attention is currency. That’s not the highest currency. Authenticity is the highest currency. And the professional wrestling audience has been starving for it,” Kross said.
He added that he flagged the trend years ago. “I tried to talk about this two years ago and pointed it out. Some people didn’t want to hear it. The audience definitely were like, ‘Hey, I think he’s on to something.’ Turns out we were right. Put that on a t-shirt.”
The pair have stayed busy since their WWE exits, including returning to MLW after a three-year absence. Their candid takes also fit a broader pattern, with reports detailing how their post-WWE earnings compare to their old deals and Bordeaux previously speaking openly about WWE’s business practices and ticket prices.
