Dave Meltzer has provided an update on the CM Punk situation, indicating the minor issues that have been reported trace back to Punk losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42.
Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:
Regarding Punk stuff, as noted last week, there have been minor issues which were traced back to us as starting with the loss of the title at WrestleMania.
Punk dropped the World Heavyweight Championship to Reigns on Night Two of WrestleMania 42 in April. The following night on Raw, Punk had a face-to-face segment with Cody Rhodes that teased a future program between the two. He has not appeared on WWE television since.
His absence prompted widespread speculation, with various reports citing a mix of creative factors and personal matters, though WrestleVotes pushed back against the most extreme versions of those reports and described the situation as a well-deserved rest after years of continuous work.
Punk is expected to return to WWE television imminently, with the July 6 Raw in Chicago the widely reported target date. He has been pushing specifically for the Chicago show, which takes place at Allstate Arena. It’s believed that he will be wrestling Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam in Minneapolis.
