MJF offered a backhanded tribute to Bret Hart during his appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, calling him one of the greatest wrestlers of all time while stating the Hall of Famer may be “punch drunk” from his career-ending concussion suffered at the hands of Goldberg.
I don’t have a beef with Bret Hart. I cut an incredible promo on Bret Hart in the very first Double or Nothing, which — full circle — Double or Nothing’s happening this Sunday, May 24th. See how fcking good I am? I’ve got no beef. I just think, look man, this dude got rocked by Goldberg to the point where he had to retire. He’s saying crazy s** all the time and 99% of the time it doesn’t make sense. I just think homie’s punch drunk and like, God bless him. He should be. He’s one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
MJF did not stop there, using the moment to make a clear declaration about where Hart ranks relative to Shawn Michaels.
He’s no Shawn Michaels, but he’s one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. I have no reason to pretend Shawn Michaels isn’t better than Bret Hart because he’s like the WWE NXT guy. But I’m just not going to sit here and do that. He was the better talker, he was more athletic in the ring, was the better wrestler, he was more exciting, he drew you in more.
Bret was good at a time period where he was able to get away with being this incredible work-rate guy. His promos were good, but they weren’t f****** like ‘WHOA!’ Did you ever go to school and go, ‘Did you hear that Bret Hart promo?'
