One Year Ago Today: Naomi’s Iconic Money in the Bank Cash-In at WWE Evolution

ByMike ReichlinProfessional Wrestling Journalist

One year ago today, on July 13, 2025, Naomi pulled off one of the most memorable moments in recent WWE history, cashing in her Money in the Bank contract at WWE Evolution to win the Women’s World Championship.

The Cash-In That Stole the Show

The Evolution main event was a war. Iyo Sky defended the Women’s World Championship against Rhea Ripley in a physical, near-fall-heavy showdown that pushed both women to their limits.

With both laid out on the mat after a brutal exchange, State Farm Arena erupted when Naomi’s music hit.

She walked out clutching her Money in the Bank briefcase with a referee at her side and slid into the ring. The briefcase was cashed in. The match became a Triple Threat.

What followed was chaos. Naomi struck Sky with the briefcase, sent Ripley crashing into the ring post and out to the floor, then connected with a picture-perfect Split-Legged Moonsault on Sky.

The referee counted three, and the place exploded. Naomi was the new Women’s World Champion.

A Long Time Coming

The win capped a remarkable run. Naomi had captured the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match just over a month earlier, on June 7, 2025, setting up a cash-in fans knew was coming: they just didn’t know when or where. What made the night sweeter is where it started: Naomi had lost a No Holds Barred match to Jade Cargill earlier in the same show before turning the entire event on its head hours later.

The title was the third reign of Naomi’s career with that championship’s lineage, following her two runs as SmackDown Women’s Champion in 2017. Winning it on the grandest possible stage, WWE’s all-women premium live event, made it the defining moment of her career to that point.

The Legacy of That Night

The reign didn’t last long, which is part of what makes the anniversary bittersweet. Naomi successfully defended the title against both Sky and Ripley in a Triple Threat at SummerSlam on August 3, 2025, then vacated the championship on the August 18 episode of Raw after announcing her pregnancy. The reign clocked in at 36 days.

A year on, the cash-in still lands as one of the best in recent memory. Even with the run cut short, the image of Naomi standing tall in Atlanta with the title held high remains one of Evolution’s signature moments and one of the highlights of the event’s celebrated return.
