The stakes for Saturday’s NXT Deadline just reached an entirely new level.
SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced on Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown that the winner of the NXT Championship match at NXT Deadline will receive an immediate WWE Championship opportunity. That title shot will come one week later at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, where they will face Cody Rhodes.

NXT Deadline takes place Saturday, December 6 from the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas. The event opens with Ricky Saints defending the NXT Championship against former champion Oba Femi, marking the first time an NXT Title match has opened a premium live event in brand history.
Should Saints retain, the match would carry added significance. The NXT Champion has previously named Rhodes among his dream opponents, dating back to their history in AEW. Femi, meanwhile inventory would be looking to reclaim the title he held for 263 days before losing to Saints at No Mercy in September.
Rhodes enters as WWE Champion in his second reign after defeating John Cena in a street fight at SummerSlam. The December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event also features Cena’s retirement match, streaming live on Peacock from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
