Mason Rook currently finds himself in line for an NXT Championship match against Grayson Waller. Looking beyond that, though, the rising NXT star also has dreams of making it to WWE’s biggest stage, WrestleMania.
Should he be offered an opportunity to compete at the next WrestleMania event, slated for the spring of 2027 in Saudi Arabia, Rook hopes to face another powerhouse, one that’s cemented himself as a “Career Killer” and “Ring General.”
I’d say Gunther [is my WrestleMania 43 dream opponent] right now,” Rook told Busted Open Radio in a recent interview. “For me, he is the standard of wrestling. From the indies, he was the trailblazer on the indies. Wherever he’s gone, he has set the standard. Coming from Europe as well, I feel like we have the same kind of physical style. And obviously, he’s now got this moniker as the career-ender. He’s retired some of the greatest to ever do it. So to be able to test myself against Gunther this early on, I feel would do wonders for my career here in WWE.
As Rook alluded to, Gunther made quite a name for himself on the European independent wrestling circuit. Now in WWE, he’s a multi-time world champion with memorable wins over WWE legends. Over the last 15 months, Gunther has retired the likes of John Cena, AJ Styles, and Goldberg, the latter two of whom are WWE Hall of Famers.
Rook himself has been personally endorsed by Cena, a 17-time world champion, on multiple occasions. Like Gunther, Rook also emerged as a standout star on the indies before joining WWE.
Should Gunther vs. Rook materialize at WrestleMania 43, it would mark a first-time showdown between the two.
