Randy Orton shared an emotional tribute to John Cena on Monday night, days after Cena’s retirement match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington D.C.
The Viper reflected on their two-decade journey together in professional wrestling, revealing they’ve faced each other at least 100 times throughout their careers. Orton was unable to attend Cena’s emotional sendoff in person, as he was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia promoting Riyadh Season and the upcoming Royal Rumble.
“I broke into the wrestling business and grew up for past 2 decades alongside @johncena,” Orton wrote. “I would have enjoyed being there in DC for #wwe #snme and witness his emotional send off into retirement. But I know if ANYONE understands my absence, it’s John.”
Orton revealed the two exchanged text messages on the morning of Cena’s retirement, calling it an honor to speak with him on such a significant day. He expressed excitement about following Cena’s Hollywood career, stating “Skys the limit with this guy.”
The 14-time World Champion praised Cena as “one of the most OVER wrestlers ever” and thanked him for being good to his family over the years and improving the locker room environment.
“Thanks for being so good to my family over the years and thanks for making the lockeroom a better place. Take care John, and I’ll see ya around,” Orton concluded.
