Road Dogg Explains WWE Creative Exit, Rules Out AEW Move

Road Dogg has opened up about his departure from WWE creative, revealing the demanding pace of the job led to his exit in early March. The former co-lead writer of Friday Night SmackDown addressed his decision during a virtual signing appearance with Signed by Superstars.

"It was moving too fast... It was just moving too fast for me. We talked about my brothers and their grandkids and I didn't get to spend a whole lot of time with mine so, I'm gonna do more of that now."

Road Dogg served as co-lead writer for SmackDown before his March exit. He was featured in the WWE: Unreal series on Netflix during creative writing meetings, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the process.

WWE Creative Process and Netflix Exposure

When asked whether the Netflix series exposes too much of the wrestling business, Road Dogg acknowledged the concern many veterans share. "As an old timer, I think we always feel that way," he said.

He explained the strategic thinking behind the series. "The idea behind it, in my opinion, is it's an on-ramp or an exit ramp into the actual episodic television show, and I don't know if there's a metric that can tell you whether that works or not."

AEW Speculation Shut Down

During the signing, which also featured Billy Gunn, Road Dogg was asked about potentially joining All Elite Wrestling in a producing role. He quickly dismissed the idea.

When asked if he could see himself working for AEW in the future, Road Dogg simply replied, "No." Gunn, who works as both a talent and producer for AEW, echoed the response.

Road Dogg's exit from WWE marks a shift toward spending more time with family after years in the high-pressure creative environment.
