The WWE Universe is set to witness one of the most captivating main event matches at SummerSlam 2026. It will see former brothers-in-arms, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, clash with Reigns’ World Heavyweight title on the line.
The two megastars came up in the business together as part of The Shield alongside Dean Ambrose. After the group disbanded in 2014, Rollins and Reigns went on to become top attractions while also being each other’s bitter rivals. So before this 14-year-in-the-making main event happens, here is a look back at their history in terms of matches, records, and more.
First singles match between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins: 2014
After Seth Rollins joined forces with Triple H and his Authority, Roman Reigns was one of their top targets. This led to the former Shield brothers clashing in a one-on-one battle for the first time in WWE. The match that took place on the September 15, 2014, episode of RAW saw Reigns defeat Rollins in a classic battle.
First PPV clash
The first time Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins clashed at a WWE PPV was at Night of Champions 2014. It was another exciting bout; however, this time, Rollins picked up the win via count-out.
Multiple clashes on RAW (2014-1015)
Over the span of a year, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins squared off in singles matches on Monday Night RAW. The December 14, 2014, clash saw Reigns win via DQ, while the March 2, 2015, episode saw Rollins pick up a clean win over The OTC. Reigns bounced with a win over Rollins on the June 30 episode of SmackDown.
Heist of the Century
In the main event of WrestleMania 31, Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank opportunity. In doing so, Rollins stole Roman Reigns’ moment and became the first member of The Shield to win the WWE Championship.
WWE Money in the Bank 2016
Seth Rollins returned from his devastating knee injury in 2016 and immediately targeted Roman Reigns, who was the WWE Champion. This led to their blockbuster match at Money in the Bank, where The Visionary defeated Reigns and won back the title, only to lose it to a MITB cash-in by Dean Ambrose.
Later years (2017-2022)
From 2017 to 2022, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins only had two singles matches against each other. The May 29, 2017, episode of RAW saw Rollins lose to Reigns, while Rollins picked up a DQ win over Reigns on the October 11, 2019, episode of SmackDown.
WWE Royal Rumble 2022
The last time Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins clashed in a major singles bout was at the Royal Rumble 2022. Reigns, amid his dominant Universal Championship reign, defended the title against The Visionary, with the match ending in a Rollins DQ win after Reigns attacked him with a steel chair.
With SummerSlam 2026 possibly the last time they will ever meet in the ring, it will be interesting to see who will leave US Bank Stadium as the World Heavyweight Champion.
