Sami Zayn Launches Birthday Charity Campaign For Syria

ByMike ReichlinProfessional Wrestling Journalist

On his 42nd birthday, Sami Zayn is turning his recent WWE Championship loss into a fundraising pitch, asking fans to donate to his Sami For Syria charity while he personally matches every dollar contributed up to $20,000. The WWE superstar, real name Rami Sebei, made the announcement in a birthday video posted July 12, 2026.

Zayn, born July 12, 1984, framed the drive around a single-day donation match. He pledged to double every dollar fans give on his birthday, up to a $20,000 cap, with F4WOnline reporting a total goal of $40,000 for the campaign.

The pitch came with a joke at his own expense. In the video, Zayn told fans they could give “just because you feel bad” for him after being “robbed of the WWE Championship,” a self-deprecating nod rather than any claim to a current title.

“My birthday wish this year is to raise as much money as possible to keep our two existing #SamiForSyria Mobile Clinics operating for the rest of the year. I am matching every dollar donated today up to 20k,” Zayn wrote, directing supporters to SamiForSyria.com.

Zayn shared the message in a post on X.

Where The Money Goes

Sami For Syria operates in partnership with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), a medical relief organization serving displaced Syrian civilians. Funds raised cover operating costs for SAMS-run mobile clinics through the rest of the year.

The matching pledge was tied specifically to donations made on his birthday. No official continuation of the match beyond July 12 has been reported.

Zayn’s title loss has been a talking point across the wrestling world in recent weeks, with AJ Styles telling fans not to overreact to the defeat and others weighing in on the reasoning behind his unusually short reign.
