Former WWE Star Recalls How He Accidentally Blew Off Adam Sandler at Live Event

Adam Sandler once tried to compliment a WWE star backstage, only to be mistaken for an overly enthusiastic fan.

During his appearance on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, former WWE star Scotty 2 Hotty recalled the time that he and the Hollywood actor crossed paths at an Attitude Era live event in Buffalo, New York. Scotty and Brian Christopher opened the show with a tag team match, with Eddie Guerrero and Billy Gunn following with the third clash on the card.

It was during the latter bout that Sandler approached Scotty in a dimly lit area to compliment him.

I find this area in the arena where it’s dark, but I can go out in the arena and stand in the shadows and watch the match in the arena,” Scotty said. “So I’m watching it, and I see this guy come out of the audience and comes over to me, and he goes, ‘Ah, good stuff you did out there. You’re really funny.’ I was like, oh, thanks.

I’m trying to watch the match, but I think it’s a fan who snuck back,” he continued. “I don’t want more people to start coming and cause a scene, so I can’t watch the match. I wasn’t rude, but I was like, thanks, and then continue to watch the match. Then the guy who’s the promoter, he comes out. He walks out there, and he comes back with somebody, and he’s like, ‘Scott, this is Adam Sandler.’ I was like, Adam Sandler just told me I was funny, and I blew him off.

The event in reference took place on October 29, 2000, from the HSBC Arena (now known as KeyBank Center). According to Cagematch, Scotty and Christopher lost their kickoff tag team bout against The Right To Censor’s Bull Buchanan and The Goodfather. William Regal followed with a successful WWE European Championship defense over Crash. Billy Gunn then defeated Intercontinental Champion Eddie Guerrero by disqualification.

It is unclear if Sandler and Scotty ever met again after the WWE live event.
