Former WWE star Sunil Singh says he’s lucky to be alive after suffering a collapsed right lung during a Pure Power Wrestling match on Saturday night.
Singh, real name Gurvinder Sihra, shared the news Monday on the X account of The Bollywood Boyz, the tag team he forms with his brother Samir Singh. He wrote that hospital X-rays revealed the collapsed lung, caused by the impact of a move he has performed for years.
“The ER doctor said ‘You are very lucky to be alive. You had angels watching over you,’” Sunil wrote.
Sunil said he was gasping for air and struggling to breathe in the ring, not knowing how serious it was. Once he reached the backstage area, he still couldn’t get to his feet.
“For a moment, it truly felt like I was facing death,” he wrote. “I didn’t want to die and the only thing I could think of at the time was ‘How will I take my son to hockey and get onto the ice with him?’”
He thanked Pure Power Wrestling, a promotion based in Lethbridge, Alberta, along with the locker room and “especially my brother” for helping get the medical team to the venue in time. Sunil said he’ll be going for follow-up appointments soon and is “taking things one breath, one day, and one step at a time.” He did not give a timeline for a return to the ring.
Scare Comes Weeks After "Zero Offers" Admission
The injury lands just over two weeks after the brothers spoke openly about where their careers stand. On September 5, The Bollywood Boyz told a fan on X they’ve received “zero offers” from WWE or AEW in recent years, adding, “If there’s one thing we’ve learned in these past 5 years, never be embarrassed to struggle.”
Sunil returned to that theme on Monday. “The past 5 years, post WWE, have been some of the most rewarding and hardworking years of my life and I don’t want any of it to go to waste,” he wrote.
WWE released the brothers in June 2021. They spent much of their run as The Singh Brothers, managing Jinder Mahal through his WWE Championship reign, and have worked the independent circuit since, with stints in All Elite Wrestling and Ring of Honor along the way.
It’s not the first time Sunil has worked through a serious injury. He told Sean Waltman on the Pro Wrestling 4 Life podcast in 2021 that he finished his final WWE match with a dislocated shoulder, popping it back into place himself mid-match.
