There have been significant internal discussions about an in-ring program between GUNTHER and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. WrestleVotes on Fightful Select reports that the conversations have picked up following their angle at the Night of Champions post-show.
The idea of Aldis returning to the ring has been floated on multiple occasions within WWE, including a proposed program with Solo Sikoa in 2025 that gained internal traction. The GUNTHER and Aldis concept has been discussed previously, but not in the context of the current storyline that appears to be developing.
If a match does happen, sources indicate the expectation is that GUNTHER would face Aldis directly rather than Aldis appointing a surrogate to fight on his behalf.
Aldis has not wrestled since 2023. He is a former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion — having held the title for nearly 1,900 days across two reigns — and a former TNA World Heavyweight Champion. He was named SmackDown General Manager in 2024.
